Wisconsin Wild Alumnae Newsletter Weeks of January 5 and 12, 2009 Wisconsin Wild Alumnae Newsletter Weeks of January 5 and 12, 2009 Marie-Michelle Poirier named WCHA Rookie of the Week (adapted from a UND website article) University of North Dakota freshman forward and Wisconsin Wild alumna Marie-Michelle Poirier was named the WCHA Rookie Player of the Week on January 7th for her performances at the Easton Showcase in St. Cloud, Minn., against Rensselaer and Wayne State. A sophomore in her first year of eligibility at UND, Marie scored both regulation goals in the Fighting Sioux's 3-2 overtime victory over Rensselaer last Friday. Marie scored her two goals on three shots, answering both Rensselaer goals and forcing overtime. Her goal at 13:26 of the first period was shorthanded and tied the game at 1-1 while her sixth goal of the season came in the third period with just 2:35 left in regulation and knotted the score at 2-2. The Sioux then went on to win 3-2 in overtime just 29 seconds into the extra session. On the season, Marie is sixth in scoring among her UND teammates with six goals, six assists and 12 points while playing in all 20 games to date. Last two weeks’ game results: Tuesday, December 30 Providence College 1, Yale University 2 Sarah Tittman (Yale) was a starter and took a shot in the game. Sarah was injured late in the second period of the game and unable to return. Dartmouth College 4, University of Vermont 1 Sue Schmitz (Dartmouth) was +1, in the game. Friday, January 2 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute 2, University of North Dakota 3 (ot) (Easton Showcase) Marie-Michelle Poirier (North Dakota) scored two goals, including a short- hander, and took 3 shots in the game. Marie was named 2nd star of the game. The UND game recap said that Marie “buried her first goal of the game with a breakaway, backhanded goal short side.” UND Head Coach Brian Idalski said of Marie, “I think she really committed herself coming off of the break. “She was fresh mentally coming back and had a great week of practice. She has really been pushing herself and I think she has now seen the benefit of that in a game. That was tremendous and we need that out of her more and more as we go along the rest of the season.” Boston College 3, Colgate University 1 Meghan Fardelmann (Boston College) earned the assist on the game-winning goal and took 7 shots in the game. Concordia College (MN) 3, Concordia University (WI) 6 Bre Bian (Concordia-MN) took 3 shots and won 7 of her 10 face-offs, and Leah Shapiro (Concordia-WI) scored an empty net goal and took 5 shots in the game. Rochester Institute Technology 4, Sacred Heart University 4 (ot) Kelley Prom (RIT) took a shot and won 5 of her 6 face-offs in the game. Amherst College 0, Gustavus Adolphus College 3 Michelle McGann (Amherst) took 4 shots in the game. Boston University 5, Ohio State University 3 Holly Lorms (Boston University) took 3 shots and won 8 of her 13 face-offs in the game. Bemidji State University 2, Robert Morris University 0 Lexy Parenteau (Bemidji) scored a goal and took 3 shots in the game.
