12 30 VOLUNTEERING THANK YOU FROM THE WITH THE CANADIAN PRESIDENT OF THE RED CROSS CANADIAN RED CROSS A Message FROM THE CHIEF MARKETING AND DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

Dear members of the Tiffany Circle, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations on another amazing year. Our 2018 and 2019 were full of exciting events, inspiring speakers, and great work by all of you. Your support has gone towards helping people across Canada recover from disasters and emergencies, and your generosity has made it possible for the Canadian Red Cross (CRC) to reach so many in need around the world. From the wildfires that raged in BC over the past few years, to severe flooding in Eastern Canada, to devastating disasters in Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean, your commitment to the Tiffany Circle is a commitment to making the world a better place, and for that I thank you. Over the last two years I have been continuously amazed by the dedication and drive each of you has shown when it comes to philanthropy and changing the lives of vulnerable people. I’ve been lucky to come to the anniversary events in Toronto and Regina RONAN RYAN and see firsthand the energy you all bring to the Tiffany Circle. Chief Marketing and The success of the Behind the Red Vest event is a testament to Development Officer, that energy, and I’m grateful for the gifts you have both made and Canadian Red Cross inspired. And of course, it was a highlight of my year to join you at the Women Deliver Conference in Vancouver - what an incredible week. Thanks to amazing supporters like you, we continue to find new and innovative ways to raise funds and make an impact. On behalf of the Canadian Red Cross, thank you for all that you do. Sincerely, Ronan Ryan Chief Marketing and Development Officer, Canadian Red Cross Welcome Message FROM THE CO-CHAIRS

On behalf of the Tiffany Circle, we would like to say thank you. This Year in Review has allowed us to reflect on everything that we have been able to accomplish in 2018-2019, and we are amazed by the dedication each and every one of you has shown to the Tiffany Circle, the Red Cross, and helping people in times of need. Since 2018, we have grown by leaps and bounds, and have had some truly wonderful events to share. We participated in the International Council in Geneva, which was an informative and enriching experience, while also getting to meet our fellow international Tiffany Circle members. We then travelled en masse to the Women Deliver Conference in Vancouver in June which was an inspiring event! In addition to all the world-class sessions the conference offered, the Canadian Red Cross Reception was a huge success. The highlight was hearing from Red Cross nurse Patrice Gordon.

ANNA HUNT-BINKLEY Last but not least, we celebrated our 7th and 8th anniversary events in Toronto and, most recently, Regina. It was great to gather together to celebrate, but also to hear from so many of the Red Cross delegates and speakers about the impact the Tiffany Circle has been able to have, both here at home and around the world. In fact, it is the impact—the ability to change lives and make the world better through leadership and philanthropy—that we were most amazed by as we recapped this year. The Behind the Red Vest campaign, which ended in 2019, surpassed the $5 million expected and raised $7.6 million. The generosity shown by each of you to people in need throughout 2018-2019 is a powerful reaffirmation that by working together and supporting each other’s philanthropy, we can achieve anything. To that end, the Tiffany Circle Engagement Committee conducted a survey in 2018 to gather what you thought about the Circle thus far, and where you think we should go next. The Red Cross and the MIRANDA HUBBS Tiffany Circle have since worked to move forward on your answers and improve. Additionally, we have spent significant time developing the Tiffany Circle strategic plan, which has been accepted and integrated into the overarching Red Cross Philanthropy strategy. We want to extend a special thank you to the professional and dedicated Philanthropy Team we are currently blessed with. We hope you enjoy reading this report and looking back at all the great things we have accomplished together over the past couple of years. We are looking forward to sharing more news and big things to come in the upcoming year! Until then, Your Co-Chairs Anna Hunt-Binkley & Miranda Hubbs National Steering Committee OF THE CANADIAN RED CROSS TIFFANY CIRCLE

Here are some of those campaigns the TC has supported in the last two years:

Emergency Appeals: In 2018, the TC supported recovery efforts in the following Canadian and international disaster responses: BC Fires, Indonesia Earthquake and Tsunami, Ottawa-Gatineau Tornadoes, Typhoon Mangkut.

In 2019, flooding in New Brunswick forced evacuations; in the fall, Hurricane Dorian affected thousands in Canada and the Bahamas. The TC also helped the Canadian Red Cross respond to in Mozambique where the Emergency Field Hospital provided emergency medical assistance.

The TC has supported ongoing emergency response efforts, including the ongoing Yemen Humanitarian Crisis, the Bangladesh Population Movement, and the Syria Crisis.

Programs/Funds: The TC supports a variety of programming at the Canadian Red Cross and contributes to a number of funds that impacts the lives of and of vulnerable people worldwide: Emergency Preparedness in Canada, Indigenous Programing, International Disaster Relief, Maternal Newborn and Child Health, Respect Education, Canadian Disaster Relief Fund, and the Indigenous Outreach Fund.

International: Hurricane Dorian swept over the Bahamas and left thousands of people without homes, electricity, and basic necessities. We sent emergency management specialists to help communities recover and worked with local partners to make sure essentials such as water, shelter, and food were provided.

Indigenous Communities: In 2019, disasters in Northern Ontario led to emergency evacuations of Indigenous communities in the area. The Canadian Red Cross worked closely with each community and their host towns to provide shelter and support during a time of uncertainty.

Maternal Newborn and Child Health: In 2019, the Canadian Red Cross completed a five-year mother, newborn, and child health project in South Sudan, where death rates are among the worst worldwide. Training local health teams and restoring infrastructure brought essential health care and clean water to 350,000 vulnerable people. In June 2019, the Canadian Red Cross began a new project to extend this life-saving work to communities caught in conflict. Tiffany Circle Members ACROSS THE WORLD

AMERICAN RED CROSS HEADQUARTERS, WASHINGTON, D.C. Volunteering WITH THE RED CROSS

The Canadian Red Cross volunteers are truly like no others. With a wide variety of roles to serve in, interests to satisfy, and needs to be met, we truly have something for every type of volunteer. Often working as the first point of contact for many people at the Red Cross, volunteers go above and beyond to make sure that each person gets the help that they need. We are proud of our Tiffany Circle members who also serve as volunteers at the Red Cross. Here, in their own words, is why they choose to give their time and support.

Through the dedication and efforts of volunteers and members of the Tiffany Circle many people that find themselves in vulnerable situations are given assistance and hope. What a wonderful thing, and a true honour to witness.”

– Marianne Skerl CVA, Manager, Volunteer Experience and Engagement, Canadian Red Cross

Why did I join the Red Cross Tiffany Circle? Simply because a friend asked and Siobhan it fit for me. I volunteer in Waterloo, which is my home in addition to a vacation Furst home in Port Albert on Lake Huron. I started volunteering as a teen for St. John Ambulance as a cadet leader, later as a training officer. I attended public events and provided first aid to the public. I was a first aid/CPR instructor and a swim teacher, and these experiences led me to my career as a nurse. I was a pediatric nurse practitioner, I taught nursing, and I have a background in pediatrics and forensic nursing. I recently returned to school to requalify my skills in nursing “[volunteer quote FPO]” after taking time off to raise my two boys. My volunteer role with the Red Cross started when Mari asked me to consider joining the TC. I had left my volunteering days behind when I started a family. When Mari approached me, I thought about how Red Cross fit with my personal and family values of helping people in need. The volunteering came naturally with my connection through the TC. The thing that the Canadian Red Cross does well is serve those in need, and it is at its best when engaging with the public to provide services. I am always impressed when I meet volunteers, delegates, and staff engaged in the work of the Canadian Red Cross. I started my journey with the Canadian Red Cross as a leadership volunteer in Laura 2015. I joined the Toronto Region Council, providing volunteer management Isidean strategic advice and advising management on regional operating plans. Later, I would find other ways of supporting management in advisory roles, particularly ones impacting volunteers, as I am deeply inspired by the Society’s voluntary service principle. I have served on the Ontario Provincial Advisory Committee for nearly three years, focusing on volunteer engagement. I enjoy exploring volunteer recognition; our recommendations on recognition practices were implemented in Ontario and beyond. I joined the National Volunteer Experience and Engagement Advisory Committee and supported the Senior Director in her Volunteer Transformation Project, a multi-year exploration of new strategies to improve the volunteer experience. We delivered an update to Ontario volunteers last month, where I had the pleasure of emceeing as well as co-presenting. I continue to provide support in the Toronto region with First Contact. I have written an awards submission for this program, as well as interviewed staff candidates for a recent expansion in services supporting refugees. It is my positive experience as a Canadian Red Cross volunteer that led me to join the TC in 2017 as a means of deepening my commitment to the organization - first as a volunteer and now as a donor, too.

Why volunteering? Why the Red Cross? Well, I have been a volunteer with the Jean Canadian Red Cross for over 35 years. I started my Red Cross journey as a Lam member of the Toronto Volunteer Resources Committee. In the years since, I’ve served on advisory committees at the local and regional level and helped create the TC here in Canada as a founding member. Currently, along with the TC, I’ve kept my volunteering going as the current Red Cross representative on the United Way Greater Toronto’s Community Impact Committee. I choose to volunteer because of the belief I have in the mission of the Red Cross, and because of the value it places on its Fundamental Principles and what they represent. The vision, the mission, and the great community of the Red Cross inspire me to volunteer. I also enjoy learning, meeting new people, and feeling engaged with my community Why the TC? The TC seemed like a natural expansion of all this and my Red Cross experiences. It provided an incredible opportunity, and it’s amazing to be working with a dynamic group of women leaders. I have been volunteering for the Canadian Red Cross in the Waterloo- Mari Wellington region for approximately seven years, since the summer of 2012. McAndrews I am an office volunteer. I began by helping in the office twice a week. The job entailed various administrative responsibilities such as donation processing, answering phones, and referring clients to appropriate resources. A few years ago, I also became a volunteer for Volunteer Resource Services (VRS), the group that recruits and processes the onboarding for volunteers of the Canadian Red Cross. I manage various onboarding steps for new volunteers, and I have conducted various interviews for potential new Emergency Management volunteers. Recently, I also had the opportunity to work on the Mobilization Team, assisting in the deployment of Emergency Management volunteers to disaster shelter sites in Ontario. The importance and significance to me of volunteering for the Canadian Red Cross is two-fold. First, in addition to being a donor for the Canadian Red Cross, I wanted to understand the operations of the organization at a the ground level. Being an office volunteer and VRS volunteer has allowed me to learn first-hand the inner workings of the Canadian Red Cross. Secondly, I wanted to be able to personally help my community in a small way through the mission of the CRC.

I was told as a kid to support the Canadian Red Cross as it had helped my Sue mother and me when we arrived in Canada and lost our luggage. Mum was a Prior war bride in a new country, miles from her destination and alone with a new baby. We were not wealthy, but my folks helped in many ways, and looked after the less able in the community. Giving was part of their life. I am really interested in the value of neutrality and grateful that when other organizations are blocked the Red Cross can remain, as in South Sudan. As a regular donor, I was invited to a lovely TC introductory event at the US ambassador’s residence. Having just had surgery, recently widowed, I felt vulnerable, and so a friend took me. Her role was to ensure I didn’t commit to anything. I was so blown away by the warmth and positive energy that I signed up then and there. I have had a delightful time with the TC at summits and anniversary sessions, hosting a few membership events and volunteering. As a volunteer, I have participated in two Walmart campaigns and enjoyed that interaction with the public as well as the opportunity to share with the employees who work so hard for the cause at the cash; I have also hosted their in-store fundraising events. I want to be an Assistant because I see kids here at the lake, what if something happens to them? If someone gets hurt in the water we can do something about it.”

Dear Tiffany Circle, Over the last two years, the TC has worked extensively with the Canadian Red Cross to raise more money, to help more Canadians in need, and to help save the lives of more vulnerable people around the world. You have all been leaders in this space, a needed voice for raising not just funds but also support and care for those in need. The TC cares. I think this is one of its most admirable qualities. In my talks with you, at events and conferences over the past few years, I’ve continued to be amazed at the passion you have for this work, at how much you each care about each other, and at how much you care about the people you want to help and are helping. This humanitarian spirit is the driving force at the core of the Red Cross. By working together, we can make sure each and every person gets the help they need. We are so grateful to the Tiffany Circle for this commitment, and for the generosity and time dedicated to our organization.
