Aeroflot inaugurates its -Moscow service

At 11:50am on 1 June 2019, the first flight to Marseille Provence Airport operated by Aeroflot, Russia's national airline, touched down on the runway. In attendance were:

The joint efforts of all stakeholders in the region rewarded as Aeroflot flies into Marseille Provence Airport The new route is the fruit of several years of efforts channelled into this strategic project. It comes as a reward for the team spirit demonstrated by players in the region. The City of Marseille, the Métropole Aix-Marseille-Provence and the Région Sud all worked alongside Marseille Provence Airport to open this new service.

A bonus for the region, boosting business and attracting tourists The new route is expected to attract 55,000 passengers, mainly Russians travelling to Provence. The flow of Russian visitors to the region will therefore swell. They are reputed for their high spending power, creating a real opportunity for Marseille and Provence to boost the tourist trade, the economy and the region's profile on the international stage. Economic spin-offs for the region are forecast to amount to approximately 30 million euros

There was real demand for this new route to Moscow among the people of Provence and Russia. All stakeholders in the region worked by our side with the authorities in Moscow and with the airline management. With 55,000 passengers expected every year on this route, it represents a wonderful opportunity for the region - both in terms of tourism and in terms of the economy. The route is expected to generate over 30 million euros in economic spin-offs for the region."

Marseille Provence Airport at the crossroads of the Mediterranean This new route will make it easier for travellers who live in Provence to get to Moscow and take advantage of all of the connections offered by Aeroflot at its hub at Moscow-Sheremetyevo, such as Saint Petersburg, Delhi, Seoul, Beijing, Shanghai, Tashkent and Bangkok.

Starting from today, the Russian airline Aeroflot is operating 5 flights a week from Marseille Provence Airport to Moscow-Sheremetyevo Airport.
