There is something BHISD District Rating EXEMPLARY about the hand- ing of a baton by your teammate that elicits ex- ceptional effort. People would rather disappoint their own expectations than let the team down. Barbers Hill has been educating students since 1929 and it is one of the few dis- tricts that has maintained excel- lence throughout its long storied history. One of the drivers of this excel- lence is the determination of past and current leaders that the baton will not be dropped and that each graduating class will build on the past accomplishments and set the bar even higher. I am proud that the current staff and students are carrying on the proud traditions and excellence of “The Hill.” The challenge for the upcoming school year is simple: Make a great district even better! We truly have one of the best districts in the state and I cannot imagine a better place where students could get a better education.

    October 1, 2015 Texas Congressional Republicans Rayburn House Office Building United States House of Representatives Washington, D.C. 20515 AN OPEN LETTER TO THE TEXAS REPUBLICAN CONGRESSIONAL HOUSE DELEGATION Dear Representative, Like the rest of the nation, last Friday I was surprised to learn of Speaker of the House John Boehner’s imminent resignation from Congress. As you are aware, Boehner revealed he had originally intended to serve as Speaker for only two terms, but after the stunning grassroots defeat of Majority Leader Eric Cantor, he decided to remain in the position through the end of this year. However, in order to prevent greater damage from further "prolonged leadership turmoil," Boehner changed his plans yet again and will be resigning at the end of October. Millions of voters in Texas and across the nation have been in a state of 'prolonged turmoil' since the election of President Obama in 2008. As evidence of the strong displeasure with the direction the President has taken the country, voters have elected a strong Republican majority in the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate during the midterm elections of both of his terms. Unfortunately, to their chagrin, little has changed after these sweeping electoral victories. The grassroots—of which I include myself—are extremely frustrated at the lack of action on any number of conservative public policy priorities in D.C. The voters did not elect conservative Republicans in 2010 and 2014 to stand by idly as their leaders engaged in the politics of surrender. Speaker Boehner's resignation is a direct result of the very same grassroots wave that swept him into power.

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE [email protected] BARBERS HILL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT-ATHLETE NAMED GATORADE TEXAS SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR CHICAGO (June 18, 2021) — In its 36th year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, Gatorade today announced Sophia Simpson of Barbers Hill High School as its 2020-21 Gatorade Texas Softball Player of the Year. Simpson is the second Gatorade Texas Softball Player of the Year to be chosen from Barbers Hill High School. The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Simpson as Texas’ best high school softball player. Now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Softball Player of the Year award to be announced in June, Simpson joins an elite alumni association of state award-winners in 12 sports, including Cat Osterman (2000-01, Cy Spring High School, Texas), Kelsey Stewart (2009-10, Arkansas City High School, Kan.), Carley Hoover (2012-13, D.W. Daniel High School, S.C.), Jenna Lilley (2012-13, Hoover High School, Ohio), Morgan Zerkle (2012-13, Cabell Midland High School, W. Va.), and Rachel Garcia (2014-15, Highland High School, Calif.). The 5-foot-10 senior right-handed pitcher led the Eagles to a 42-2 record and the Class 5A state championship this past season. Simpson compiled a 21-0 mark in the circle with a 0.18 earned run average, allowing just 36 hits and 24 walks to go with 271 strikeouts in 119.1 innings pitched. Simpson tossed four no-hitters with one perfect game and was the winning pitcher in seven of the Eagles’ 11 postseason victories.

Barbers Hill High School will open Dr. Greg Poole new classroom and computer lab space to accommodate 500 students this fall (Bond Superintendent Bond 2013 – High SchoolECC Breaks Ground 2013). Both Middle School North and Middle School South will add classroom Sandra Duree space for 250 students each this fall, in addition to a competition gym at MSN and a Principal Lisa Watkins, Superintendent Greg Poole, and students break ground on Early theater at MSS (Bond 2017).     May 11, 2020 The Honorable Nancy Pelosi The Honorable Kevin McCarthy Speaker Minority Leader U.S. House of Representatives U.S. House of Representatives Washington, D.C. 20515 Washington, D.C. 20515 Dear Speaker Pelosi and Leader McCarthy, We are writing in support of the calls for a $49.95 billion infusion of federal funding to state departments of Transportation (DOTs) in the next COVID-19 response legislation. Our transportation system is essential to America’s economic recovery, but it is facing an immediate need as the COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacts states’ transportation revenues. With negotiations for the next COVID-19 relief package underway, we write to convey our strong support that future legislation includes a provision to address the needs of highway and bridge projects. With millions of Americans following “stay-at-home” orders, many state governments are facing losses in revenues across the board. These State DOTs are not exempt from these losses but operate with unique funding circumstances by having their own revenue shortfalls. Projections are showing decreases in state motor fuel tax and toll receipts as vehicle traffic declines by 50 percent in most parts of the country due to work and travel restrictions. An estimated 30 percent average decline in state DOTs’ revenue is forecasted over the next 18 months. Some state DOTs could experience losses as high as 45 percent. Due to these grim realities, some states are unable to make contract commitments for basic operations such as salt and sand purchases for winter operations. Both short-term and long-term transportation projects that were previously set to move forward are being delayed, putting construction jobs at risk.
