It’s fair to say division 2 has been a bigger step up from division 3 than expected but we are slowly finding our feet. The Kings have found out that if you’re slightly off on Saturday, you can be punished rather quickly and the players were keen to atone for a poor performance in round 4. The Kings were excellent from the first siren to the last, beating the fancied PHOS Camden by a single point. The B and C grades, albeit fielding extremely young sides, fought hard all day but were unfortunately beaten by 79 and 52 points respectively. The positives are that it is still early in the season and there’s plenty of time to improve and get more wins on the board. As Luke mentioned last week, we will be hosting this years Business Lunch on Friday June 2nd where current Hawthorn captain and premiership player Jarryd Roughead will be our guest speaker. Please visit the link below and follow the instructions to purchase your ticket. Alternatively, if you’d like to get a table of friends together to enjoy this day, you can also do that via the link below. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to give Luke or myself a call. This week promises to be an exciting yet challenging game against Henley Sharks. If you’re available, we would love to see as many of you down at Henley Memorial Oval cheering on the mighty Kings. Bentley PHOS Camden 2.2-14 7.7-49 10.8-68 15.12-102 It is hard to believe that the side that rolled out against PHOS Camden on Saturday l was virtually the same as the one that was largely non-competitive against Gaza the previous week. With a massive focus on pressuring the opposition and holding the ball inside our forward 50 at training during the week, our ability to take this into the game was most pleasing. We tackled, harassed and limited our opponents’ time and space when they had possession, and we were able to move the ball quickly when we won it, something that we hadn’t been able to do with any consistency in our first few outings. Our forwards provided fantastic marking targets, clunking nearly everything that came their way and when the ball hit the deck, our smaller forwards were able to swoop on the crumbs or force stoppages close to goal. In a match where we led for almost 95% of the time, a major positive was our ability to respond when going behind by two kicks late in the game and get a win that many long serving players and supporters rated as the best they’ve experienced. We had solid contributions right across the board for the first time this year, with all players standing up when required. Ryan Marini made a welcome return to the side and showed how much we have missed him in the early part of the year. Nick Bentley’s effort in the ruck went a long way to us winning the match, while Charles Canny, Alex Jarvis and Matthew Falzon were again fantastic down back. Simon Wark again showed that he belongs at this level, and Henry Mason, Tom Evans and Alex Holbrook led a forward line that responded to the challenge of ensuring that the opposition was unable to launch their attacks from the back. The challenge now is to bring the same effort and intensity each week, which is something we are excited about taking on, starting this week against the highly fancied Henley Sharks. Pepper PHOS Camden 4.4-28 6.9-45 9.12-66 14.14-98 The BKings were undefeated at home so far this season & were looking to continue that run in round 4. Unfortunately when you only have the same number of scoring shots as the early round of footy you are playing in, then chances are you won’t win. It also didn’t help that we didn’t score in the second half & went down by just under 80 points. So what happened? The BKings were comprehensively walloped by an eager, skilful & well drilled side in PHOS Camden. On the flip side our basic skills were poor, we turned the footy over in dangerous positions & were second to the footy. Positive is we can’t play much worse than that so there is plenty of upside & the intent was there. The better players on the day were Chief* who had plenty of supply at half back as you would suspect & was one of the few to hit targets under intense pressure. New player this season Chucky2** also at half back tried all day valiantly to beat his player & all those around him with his attack at the footy & player . Rounding it out as best on field where midfielders The Irishman*** on the wing provided some linking play & Venka Prime**** has started to build his game on his namesake which has been pleasing to see. We are going to need to bounce back quickly from this now historical poor performance. Henley at Henley is a tough rebound, they sit undefeated in 2nd spot & have beaten all side easily thus far. It is not going to be easy, so come on down to see what happens when the BKings knock off one of the flag favourites. * Scott Fischer **Heath Rusby ***Paddy Trutwin ****Venkhatesh Sivashanker Jim Pinkney B grade Coach -8- THE PEMBROKE KINGS PEMBROKE OLD SCHOLARS FOOTBALL CLUB IT’S GOOD TO BE GREEN 2017 pembrokekings.com.au Friday May 5th 2017 Round 5 - Henley Away -9- THE PEMBROKE KINGS PEMBROKE OLD SCHOLARS FOOTBALL CLUB IT’S GOOD TO BE GREEN 2017 pembrokekings.com.au Friday May 5th 2017 Round 5 - Henley Away ROUND 4 VS C GRADE REPORT Goal Kickers A. Scurrying through the doors of the change rooms, I was greeted by a gentleman from the PHOS team who drew to our attention: “there’s a big puddle of grease just outside your door there…. Wouldn’t want any of you to slip up,” he smirked. Following that disturbing encounter, we knew these blokes would be out to get us in any way possible. The first quarter was somewhat disappointing, with PHOS piling on the first 3 or 4 of the match. Suddenly, our tails were down, and so was our attack on the footy. PHOS managed to kick unbelievably straight, with the most unlikely shots on goal seeming to always float through the middle.

If you have suitable material which you would like to consign for future such auctions, please contact us for an appointment. The highlight of this auction is undoubtedly the fabulous Phar Lap & Horse Racing collection assembled by Dario Dicarla of Melbourne featuring not only a pair Phar Lap’s horse-shoes Torsten Weller and his bridle as well as a selection of Race Books (notably including the very rare Cox Plate [email protected] 1930 & 1931 & Melbourne Cup 1929, 1930 & 1931 books), but also a range of other fascinating material, well-complemented by selected items from other vendors. This is preceded by a strong section of Cricket material featuring the extensive collection of Don Bradman memorabilia formed by Don Moyes. Other notable items include the first Sheffield Shield gold winner’s medal from 1892 won by Jack Worrall (who not only captained Victoria in cricket, but was also the very first Australian Rules football coach), as well as the earliest known Tasmanian cricket cap. Gary Watson [email protected] There is an excellent Football section to kick off the new season with items from nearly every club, including badges, jumpers, photographs, posters, and of course a selection of cigarette & trade cards. The Olympics offering is extensive, highlighted by a 1928 Australian Olympic Team ‘Baggy Green’ cap, and with a substantial 1956 Melbourne Games section. Under ‘Australiana’ you will find a wonderful Sydney Harbour Bridge collection with items ranging from kitsch to historic being offered substantially intact, and from a little further afield comes a volume of 1870s Fiji Times newspapers.
