2. Please describe the nominee’s overall performance in teaching at the facility, Chapter, Section and/or National level.

Facility I am celebrating my third full season at Kayak Point GC after being at

Interbay GC since its inception in 1998. As the Director of Instruction at Kayak Point, I have had the opportunity to implement programs for players new to the game as well as attract lower handicappers.

A Junior Program has been important to the area, providing both private instruction and Junior Camps. To further the Junior Program at Kayak Point, I pursued and became a Level 1 First Tee Instructor. Through the First Tee program, this summer we completed our second year of a 6-week LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Program.

I continue to work with the Lakewood High School and Stanwood High School Golf Teams. (Lakewood Girls won their Division in 2011)

I also completed my TPI Certified Level 1 Instructor Certification to which I incorporate into my instruction as well as recently completed certification as a B.E.S.T. practitioner.

I have focused my teaching on Short Game Schools and Corporate Clinics, with the balance on private and playing lessons.

During the prior existence of the ESPN Golf Schools, I was a Lead Instructor for them, including working directly with Hank Haney at the Hank Haney Signature Schools.

Chapter/ Section I was previously on the WWCPGA teaching committee. Most years, I have participated in some capacity in providing instruction at the Seattle Consumer Golf Show between stage clinics and the PGA Teaching and Junior Areas.

National Yearly I participate in the Play Golf America Program, recently celebrating my 14th season with the program.

2012 Kayak Point GC participated in the Tee it Forward, Golf 2.0, PGA Sports Academy programs, of which I was a part of.

Mar-2012: I held a complimentary, invitational one day clinic at Kayak Point GC for the local High School Golf Coaches.

In 2010 I had the honor of having an UNLV-PGM Intern, Kai Aoki. Our overall goals were to focus on teaching and for him to pass the PAT. I arranged for him to meet with and shadow other Chapter PGA and LPGA Professionals. Together we accomplished all his goals as well as volunteering on the range at Sahalee CC for the 2010 PGA Senior Open. Kai is now in his second season as a PGA Professional and has been promoted to assistant at CordeValle GC, a Rosewood Resort in California.

Developed and implemented the following teaching programs: • Seminar: Corporate Golf for Women • Workshop: Golf and Yoga Workshop • Tradeshows: Video golf lessons for conventions, fundraisers, private and corporate events • Kayak Point GC: First Tee-LPGA -USGA Girls Golf • Junior Camps Interbay GC: Developed and implemented the multi-day junior camps (2 to 5 day camps) • Fit fore Golf Fitness Classes for Seattle Athletic Club and Columbia Tower Club members • Fit fore Golf™ Schools for Physical Therapists (I co-facilitate schools as the PGA Professional component in the Greater Seattle, Vancouver and Victoria B.C. areas)

She is full of life and enjoys the game. We have been doing some fun drills with balanced and eye hand coordination, such as standing on a Yoga ball

swinging a club. (She said “my balance is better and this is fun!”) She just completed her second season with WSJG. She is definitely outstanding to work with.

Seniors: My relationship with Physical Therapists and Fitness instructors through both TPI and Fit fore Golf™ programs continues to grow. I am regularly referred to a number of seniors who are in rehab for various reasons. Injuries or medical conditions such as knee, hip and shoulder replacements can be disabling, so it is important to help keep them playing or get back into the game.

Minorities: I am an equal opportunity instructor. My student base includes all ethnicity and educational backgrounds.

Disabled: During the Boeing Classic I had the opportunity to participate in the Adaptive Golf Clinic at TPC Snoqualmie. What a great day!

After the clinic I received an email from a participant that I had worked with through this program. She had had brain surgery and a partial stroke and was impressed with the way in which I had assisted her and wanted to continue with lessons. To this day we still keep in touch. It is fun teaching when we get to think outside the box!

I attract and am continually referred students of varied disabilities, including wheelchair students, the blind, individuals with Parkinson’s, MS, and Cerebral Palsy.

Additionally, I regularly donate lessons to numerous charity events and fundraisers.

2. Please describe the nominee’s overall performance in teaching at the facility, Chapter, Section and/or National level. I am the Director of Instruction at The Golf Club at Redmond Ridge. This is an Oki Golf Facility. My main focus is teaching individual golf lessons, but being in the Oki Corporation, I have been allowed to teach and conduct golf schools at Newcastle, and Harbour Pointe. I also have golf schools I conduct at Silver Rock in La Quinta in the Winter. I am an independent contractor, I run my own corporation which includes all aspects of a business. I am basically a partner of Oki

Golf, not an employee. We have a great partnership, and great facilities.

3. Please briefly describe any unusual, innovative or special teaching programs the nominee has initiated or implemented.

Three Years ago I partnered with a company called U-schedule. We redesigned my website, and I use their online booking system. This system has allowed me to build a complete data base of my students, and allows them to schedule their lessons anytime of the day or night. I have gone to bed on numerous occasions to find 5-10 appointments were booked while I was sleeping. The data base helps me target golfers by their ability, age, or anything really. I have used their email wizard to send out regular golf tips and newsletters. U-schedule has grown to service at least 1000 professionals nationwide. I have been informed that I get more hits and appointments than anyone they service.

The previous section on seminars and workshops is only a small part of the education process. I have bounced off and worked with the very best our Northwest Section has to offer. I have been mentored by greats like Bill Tindall, Billy Derickson, Ron Hagen, Jim Wilkinson, Mike Davis, Joe Thiel, Chuck Milne, and Scott Williams to name a few. I have taken so many individual lessons from our Northwest Section guys, I lost count. I have given well over 50,000 hours of instruction in my career, and I hope to do another 50,000. I have been listed in the Golf Digest Best Teachers State since the inception of their listing.

4. Please list any instructional articles, videos and/or publications the nominee has written or contributed to.

I have been featured in the Seattle Times numerous times in their yearly golf magazine. I built a golf tips book for the Chapter, and have been published in every northwest golf publication. I have been shot by the PGA to do 10 golf tips for the PGA Championship public service portion a few years ago.

5. Please list the names of outstanding golfers the nominee has instructed.

I have coached golfers that have won every northwest PGA Tournament we have. If they want to tell you I have worked with them great, but that is not my place. Good players bounce around a lot and use many resources. Taking credit for ones accomplishments is short sighted. I don’t promote myself this way, and what is really an outstanding golfer anyway? Is a ten year old winning the state Championship any less of an accomplishment than someone winning our Section Championship.

6. Please describe the nominee’s involvement in growing the game of golf through juniors, women, minorities, seniors and the disabled.

I have put so many hours into clubs for kids in the past, I have lost count. I have given Junior Golf Schools for 30 years. I have volunteered for Play Golf America at Riverbend for many years. I have mentored many young aspiring assistants and apprentices in our Chapter, helping them pass PAT’s, and helping them be competitive in tournaments. I have coached many High School champions, team and Individual. I always have a number of young golfers competing at the State Championship of the WJGA.

2. Please describe the nominee’s overall performance in teaching at the facility, Chapter, Section and/or National level.

I have been at Meridian Valley Country Club for the past 6 ½ years. I believe I have created an environment where learning and enjoying the journey of golf has become vital to the membership. Repeat business is a great measuring stick for the overall health of my performance. To that point, the membership and non-members are continuing to seek out my advice on a consistent basis. There are two reasons why students will return; the student has seen some sort of improvement in his or her game or the student has bought into the direction that I have laid out in front of them and will strive to achieve their goals. In either case, both of those reasons have had a long-term impact on my performance within the facility and the Chapter. Adding more club-fitting this year to my teaching has enhanced the validity of my position while providing a great service to Meridian Valley Country Club as well. My hope is to carry this belief into the future and have a greater impact at both the Sectional and National levels.

I have now been an instructor the last two years at the TayorMade teaching and playing workshop. Assisting fellow Professionals is an honor to be a part of.

In the answers that will follow should attest to the fact that my performance has been a positive influence at the facility and throughout the Chapter. 3. Please briefly describe any unusual, innovative or special teaching programs the nominee has initiated or implemented.

I am involved with a local chiropractor to help students gain knowledge of their current physical being. Following the current TPI program, we have been in close communication regarding students that we both work with. This is a great way to encompass the professionals necessary to get the student where they need to be physically to perform their best on the golf course and in life.

My “Winter Program” I offer has been very well attended for the last three years. Over the past three years I have had 30 spots filled. With this program a student can have 12 hours of

instruction throughout the winter months. I like to run this program like a time-share. I will allow a family to share this one hour a week and in some cases non-family couples to share the program as well. I have added a fitness aspect to this year’s program, which already consists of video swing analysis and on course training (weather permitting of course).

4. Please list any instructional articles, videos and/or publications the nominee has written or contributed to.

I have contributed to the publication put out by my club called “The Approach” many times over the years.

5. Please list the names of outstanding golfers the nominee has instructed.

This year has made me very proud to have the opportunity to teach and coach some of the finest junior golfers in the state.

I had 14 juniors qualify for the WJGA State Championships recently. Of those, 5 made the cut into the final day. Catherina Li won the 16-17 year old age group and the overall. Alyssa Nguyen took second in the 8-11 age group.

I have worked with Josh Immordino for the past year. 6. Please describe the nominee’s involvement in growing the game of golf through juniors, women, minorities, seniors and the disabled.

I run clinics specifically targeting the ladies of Meridian Valley Country Club. These clinics are offered throughout the spring and summer. Junior clinics are a staple at my club. Most notably are the Future Junior Clinics. I offer 6 sessions for the ages 5-7 that run from spring to fall. There have been as many as 12 at one time, which are quite the handful yet so much fun! My belief is that if other sports can get the youth involved at such a young age, why not golf? These young individuals are the ones who will be supporting the game and the industry for years to come.

I have volunteered my time to help run the First Tee clinic offered to the Kent area middle schools held at Meridian Valley Country Club.
