Celebration of 550th Birth Anniversary of Nanak Dev Ji

Consulate General of India, Sao Paulo and Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC), Sao Paulo celebrated the 550th Birth Anniversary of Shri Dev ji with events at the Gurudwara and at the Cultural centre in Sao Paulo.

2. On 17 November 2019, the celebration was held at the Sao Paulo Gurudwara with Akhand Paath and Paath by the members of the Sikh community of Sao Paulo, followed by Shabad with participation from the Indian Community and the Brazilian friends of India. Both the Indians and Brazilians participated in preparing Guru´s , which was later served to everyone participating in the event. Consul General, Amit Kumar Mishra and other officials, along with their families, participated in the event.

3. The celebration continued with a bhajan and kirtan evening by the Brazilian group ‘Crystal Seed’ at Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre on 28 November 2019. Director, SVCC Ms. Puja Kaushik, welcomed the gathering and spoke about the significance of Guru Nanak Jayanti and the teachings of Guru Nanak ji. A short video titled ‘Sarbat da Bhala- Good of Humanity’ on the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev ji was also played. The attendees later enjoyed and participated in the musical tribute offered by the Brazilian group through the melodious rendition of ‘’ and ‘Satnaam Wahe Guru’.

4. The Sikh community in Sao Paulo includes few families but both events to celebrate the 550th birth anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Dev ji were well attended by Brazilians and provided an opportunity to the participants to know more about and teachings of Guru Nanak Dev ji.
