MORE MANDOLIN MAGIC?: With bluegrass music wafting throughout Whataburger Field pregame, the Hooks are 4-0 on Sundays at home this season. In these 4 triumphs, Corpus Christi has outscored the opposition 32-16. The success at Whataburger Field extends beyond Sundays, as the team owns the best Double-A home record at 23-10 (.697). The Hooks have won 14 of their last 19 games here in the Sparkling City.

DOWN THE STRETCH THEY COME: By dropping last night’s series opener, the Hooks trail the Missions by 3.0 games in the South standings. Only 9 contests remain in the first half, which includes 5 meetings with these 2 clubs. San An- tonio leads the season series, 5-4. The Hooks won all 4 games at Whataburger Field May 14-17 after being swept up at The Wolff May 5-8.

HAIL RANDY!: 3B Randy Cesar, tabbed Friday as the Astros Minor League Player of the Month for May, has now hit safely in 31 consecutive games, which stands as the longest hit streak in the 14-year history of the Hooks. The run by Cesar eclipses Jorge Cortes’ 27-gamer in 2006.

During his 31-game hit streak, Cesar is batting .380 with 20 runs scores, 6 doubles, 1 triple, 7 home runs, 25 RBIs, and a .412 OBP. This is currently the longest hit streak in Minor League Baseball this season. It’s also the longest streak in the Texas League since Midland’s D’Arby Myers hit safely in 33 consecutive games during the 2013 campaign. The league record for longest hitting streak is 37 games, achieved by El Paso’s Bobby Trevino in 1969.

Cesar leads the Texas League with a .349 batting average, and is tied for 2nd in the circuit with 76 hits. The 23-year-old has recorded at least 1 knock in 41 of his last 43 games.

NUNN BETTER: LHP Chris Nunn was the bright spot for the Hooks on the hill last night. Nunn’s 3.0 scoreless innings marked his longest assignment since retired 10 of 13 batters in his Corpus Christi debut April 28 vs. Frisco. The 27-year-old southpaw has not permitted an earned run in 7 of his 8 Hooks outings. Nunn is 3-0 with a 1.80 ERA for Corpus Christi, striking out 23 against 8 walks and 19 hits in 20.0 innings.

AMBUSHED: Fueled by a 7-0 lead after 4 innings, the Missions cruised to a series opening win last night. San Antonio scored 9 runs on 13 hits in the effort. The first 4 Missions markers were scored with 2 outs. In the 4-game set vs. Frisco, Hooks hurlers allowed just 7 runs on 28 hits (26 singles, 2 doubles). Logan Allen’s 1st-inning homer last night was the first dinger permitted by Corpus Christi in 37 frames.
