The Rochester Sentinel 1978 Tuesday, January 3, 1978 Lee James Ehlinger Lee James EHLINGER, 71, R.R. 2, Macy, died at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Woodlawn hospital. He had been in failing health for the past 10 years. He was born Aug. 22, 1906 in Miami county to Joseph and Clara RICHARDSON EHLINGER and had lived in the Macy community for 17 years, moving there from Fulton county. He was married April 21, 1928 in Logansport to Evelyn E. MUSSELMAN, who survives. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist church. Surviving with the wife are a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Florence) HUNTER, Rochester; a son, Harland “Bud” EHLINGER, R.R. 4, Rochester; six grandchildren; eleven great- grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Glen (Ida) SALTSGIVER, Four Seasons Moile Estates, Rochester, and Mrs. C. M. (Pearl) WILLARD, St. Joseph, Mich. A brother, George [EHLINGER], preceded in death. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Foster & Good funeral home with the Rev. Terry SHUMAKER officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery, Rochester. Friends may call from 2:30 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until time of service Wednesday. Walter D. Townsend Walter D. TOWNSEND, 78, 1325 Wabash avenue, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Canterbury Manor nursing home, where he was admitted Oct. 31. Born in Gas City May 7, 1899, he was the son of John and Ora SMITH TOWNSEND and had lived in Rochester for 10 years. He was a near-lifetime resident of Fulton county. He was married Sept. 3, 1921 in Rochester to Mary WHEADON, who survives. A retired farmer, he formerly was associated with the Lakeside Inn. He attended the Rochester First Baptist church and was a member of the Manitou Moose Lodge. Surviving with the wife are four daughters, Mrs. Charles (Katherine) GAST, Akron; Mrs. Eugene (Norma) VEDDER and Mrs. Carol CASTLEMAN, both of Rochester, and Mrs. Raymond (Donna) OVERLANDER, Roanoke; three sons, Robert M. TOWNSEND and Jack TOWNSEND, both of Rochester, and Harold TOWNSEND, Indianapolis; twenty-four grandchildren; two great- grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Martha TEEL, Tampa, Fla. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home with the Rev. Donald MAUGHAN officiating. Burial will be in the Rochester I.O.O.F. cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. today. Memorials may be made to the Manitou Training Center. Chester L. Walters Chester L. WALTERS, 33, Menone, was killed at :4:14 a.m. today in a car-train accident in Warsaw. He was born Nov. 18, 1944 in Warsaw to William J. and Edna M. WALTERS and had lived all his life in the Mentone area. Surviving with the mother are three children, Shawna, Russell and Chester [WALTERS], and a sister, Mrs. Anthony (Susan) TUELL, Mentone. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the King Memorial home, Mentone, with the Rev. Gordin CHITTY officiating. Burial will be in the Tippecanoe cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Thursday. Fro L. Tucker Mrs. Fro L. TUCKER, 82, R.R. 1, Mentone, died at 9:30 p.m. Monday at her home. She had been in failing health for several years. She was born Jan. 18, 1895 in Kosciusko county to Omer and Minnie BLACK IGO and had lived all her life in the Mentone community. She was married March 28, 1917 to Floyd L. TUCKER, who survives. She was a member of the Universalist church at Sevastopol and the Mentone Eastern Star. Surviving with the husband are a foster daughter, Mrs. Gene (Frances) MARSHALL, Akron; a brother, Lewis IGO; three sisters, Mrs. Nellie WALTERS, Akron; Mrs. Othello HOFFMAN, Claypool, and Mrs. Lillian ANGLIN, Leesburg. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the King Memorial home, Mentone, with the Rev. E. Robert HECKMAN officiating. Burial will be in the Mentone cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday. Alan Kirkendall Alan KIRKENDALL, 43, Milwaukee, Wis., a 1952 graduate of Rochester high school, died of influenza late Monday morning shortly after emergency admittance to St. Mary’s hospital in Milwaukee. Born in Rochester July 10, 1934, he was the son of Hugh L. and Lura ZIMMERMAN KIRKENDALL. He attended Purdue university and the Universit of Wisconsin and was a graduate of Northwestern Missouri State univeriity. He taught on the college level until recently and was oraganizing a private business in Milwaukee, where he had lived for 15 years. He also had served with the U.S. Armed Forces in Germany. Surviving are the mother, of Rochester; a brother, Dr. Ralph KIRKENDALL, Boston, and two sisters, Mrs. Stanley (Sara Ellen) FLOREK, Valparaiso, and Mrs. William E. (Mary Martha) McSWINEY, Nashville, Tenn. Private family rites will be conducted by the Rev. Donald MAUGHAN in the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in the Rochester I.O.O.F. cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Ruth See Mrs. Ruth SEE, 83, Mexico, died at 12:25 p.m. Sunday in Dukes Memorial hospital at Peru. She was born in Tipton county July 9, 1894 to Jesse and Elizabeth McCLAIN FENN. She was married to Grover SEE on March 27, 1921 in Mexico; he died April 6, 1932. She was a retired employee of the Wabash Railroad Employees hospital, a member of the Mexico Baptist church and the missionary society of the church. Surviving are the following children, Bette UTTER, Athens; Wilma DONAT, Peru; Louise MURPHY and Gaylord SEE, both of Denver; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-seven great- grandchildren; two great-great=grandchildren. A son, a daughter, four sisters and four brothers preceded in death. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the McCain funeral home, Denver, with the Rev. James LUND officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn cemetery at Denver. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today and until time of service Wednesday. Wednesday, January 4, 1978 Erma V. Clemons Mrs. Erma V. CLEMONS, 74, Akron, died at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Woodlawn hospital where she was admitted two hours earlier. She was born July 21, 1903 in Silver Point, Tenn., to Joseph and Lola BROWN MAYNARD and had lived in the Akron area for 52 years after moving there from Tennessee. She was married to Haskel CLEMONS July 5, 1924 in Cooksville, Tenn.; he died in 1965. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Dave (Ema) SONAFRANK, Peru, and Mrs. Lacy (Helen) CARPENTER, Roann; four sons; Howard [CLEMONS], North Manchester; Dean and Carl [CLEMONS], Akron, Joe [CLEMONS], Silver Lake; seventeen grandchildren; thirteen great- grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Bethel and Therston MAYNARD, Baxter, Tenn. She was preceded in death by one sister and one brother. Services will be at the Sheetz funeral home in Akron at 10:30 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Leroy COMBS will officiate. Burial will be at the Gaerte cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday and until the time of service on Friday. Irving L. Kindig Irving L. “Roy” KINDIG, 65, Orlando, Fla., died at 3 a.m. today at his home of four years after an extended illness. He was born May 6, 1912 in Rochester and was married on Oct. 26, 1945 in South Bend. His wife, Opal [KINDIG], survives. he was a former employee of the South Bend brewery. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Shirley ROSANDER, South Bend and Mrs. Sharron SIMON, Chesterton; a step-son, Wayne O’MALLERY, of California, and five grandchildren. Services will be at the Hollis-Palmer funeral home in South Bend at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Willis WEAVER will officiate. Burial will be at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola. Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph County Cancer Society. Thursday, January 5, 1978 Greta G. Latimer Greta G. LATIMER, 77, Mentone, died at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday at Miller’s Merry Manor nursing home, Warsaw. She had been a patient there since 1972. She was born Feb. 26, 1900 in Mentone to Sophia J. LATIMER, and had lived all her life in the Mentone community. She was a member of the Mentone United Methodist church and the Womens society. Surviving are several cousins. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the King Memorial home, Mentone, with the Rev. E. Robert HECKMAN officiating. Burial will be in the Mentone cemetery. Friends may call after 7 p.m. today, at the funeral home. Faye H. Shimer Mrs. Faye H. SHIMER, 88, Akron, died unexpectedly at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at her home. She was born May 5, 1889 in Paulding county, O., to Albert and Agnes RUMBAUGH MURPHY and had lived in the Akron area since 1913, moving there from Ohio. She was married May 5, 1908 in Antwerp, O., to Earl SHIMER, who died in 1964. She attended the Akron United Methodist church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Beatrice SHOEMAKER, Argos; three grandsons; eight great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a sister, Mrs. Warren JUMP, Monroeville, O. A sister-in-law, Mrs. Bertha COOK, Akron, also survives. Preceding in death were a son, James [SHIMER], two brothers, and five sisters. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Sheetz funeral home at Akron with the Rev. John MOORE officiating. Burial will be in the Akron cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
