The Coach Bob Pittard Scholarship Fund The Coach Bob Pittard Scholarship invests in student athletes from Apex High School and who are pursuing a fulltime undergraduate education leading to a Baccalaureate Degree. This investment is made possible through a Trust Agreement between former Apex High School teacher and coach, Robert Ray Pittard, and Wake Education Partnership. Robert "Bobby" Ray Pittard was born October 21, 1934, in the Carpenter Community of Wake County. He was a graduate of Apex High School and NC State University and was a veteran of the NC Army National Guard. He started his education career at Moncure High School and eventually retired from Apex High School in 1976, where he was a math and science teacher and a coach. Founded in 1983, WakeEd Partnership has served as an independent nonprofit focused exclusively on supporting innovative teaching and leadership modeling in Wake County Public Schools. Through its business and community partners, WakeEd Partnership supports Wake County Public Schools in its work to achieve Vision 2020.

Program Overview The Coach Bob Pittard Scholarship is available to those graduating seniors from Apex High School and Green Hope High School, located in Wake County, who, during their high school years, earned a varsity letter for participation in a full season of a varsity sport at one of the above named high schools. The value of the scholarship(s), which may be renewable for up to four years, is for a minimum of $12,500 per academic year. The total scholarship value for an individual recipient may be as much as $50,000 if the individual applies annually throughout the college experience, meets the selection criteria for scholarship renewal, and is selected by the WakeEd Scholarship Selection Committee.

Eligibility Requirements To be considered for The Coach Bob Pittard Scholarship, all applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Graduating senior of Apex High School or Green Hope High School located in Wake County, North Carolina; • Lettered in at least one full season of a varsity sport at one of the above-named schools; • Achievement in academics and leadership; • Citizen or legal resident of the United States; • Full-time college enrollment toward a Baccalaureate Degree at an accredited institution (two or four- year college/university).

Application Process All initial and renewal applicants are required to complete and application form with all forms and required attachments submitted prior to the designated application deadline.

2021-2022 Academic Year

Initial Selection Process As set forth in the Trust Document, WakeEd Partnership will rely on recommendations from the Student Services and Athletic Departments of Apex High School and Green Hope High Schools in the selection of scholarship nominations. Each school will identify The Coach Bob Pittard Scholarship nominees for its school. School nominees will be interviewed by the WakeEd Scholarship Selection Committee, comprised of business, education, and/or community leaders who will determine the final scholarship recipients. Awardees will be notified by letter within 45 days of the application filing deadline.

Renewals Recipients of The Coach Bob Pittard Scholarship are eligible to apply for renewal each year up to a maximum of three years, providing eligibility requirements are met. Renewal will be conditioned upon the applicant’s submission of a new application and unofficial college transcript. Renewal applications will be reviewed by the WakeEd Scholarship Selection Committee, who will determine the renewal recipients.

Funds Disbursement Both initial and renewal scholarship funds will be sent directly to the educational institution prior to the commencement of the school term. Awards will be apportioned by the academic year, on a semester or quarter basis. Funds are to be applied only to the following costs:

• Tuition and fees, • Room and board, • Books and required supplies and equipment.

Scholarship Application Timeline (Subject to change)

• Applications available online via Apex and Green Hope High Schools’ scholarship webpages by January 15, 2021 • Application due to school scholarship committee by February 1, 2021 • School nominations, including the completed application packages, due to WakeEd Partnership Scholarship Selection committee by March 5, 2021 • Interviews with WakeEd Partnership Selection Committee at schools: Week of March 15, 2021 • Scholarship recipients notified: No later than April 19, 2021 • Scholarship presented to recipients at senior awards program at each school: May - June 2021 • Funds dispersed prior to the start of the first term for which the scholarship applies: July 2021
