Because of this boom, a group of 277 investors founded the Beaumont Hotel Company in 1919 with the goal of building a hostelry. The President was Rudolph Charles Miller, who lived to be 100 (1873-1973) The cost of construction was $1,000,000 and the hotel boasted of: 11 stories 250 rooms The Rose Room & Sky Room (11th Floor) The Black Cat Café (restaurant) The Kitten (restaurant) The building opened to the public at 1:00 P.M. on August 8, 1922 to a large fanfare. The Beaumont Daily Journal mentioned that downtown on that day was busier than ever. That evening a more private affair was held. Over the years many business deals are said to have taken root in the lobby and eateries of Hotel Beaumont. It was a major place to meet and talk business. Many events took place at the Hotel Beaumont, including the performance of the historical Melody Maids and many others. A $7.5 million restoration was initiated by the National Development Council in 2000. The restoration made use of historic tax credits and as a result, the Beaumont Commercial Historic District is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. In the 70’s the hotel was converted into a retirement home. It later became an assisted living facility and eventually closed its doors in 2011 due to economic reasons. Now, in 2016, the historic Hotel Beaumont is being offered for sale. This is a truly jewel for any serious investor! 470 Orleans 12th Floor • Beaumont, TX 77701 • 409.899.3300 • wheelercommercial.com KenWheel, Inc, dba Wheeler [email protected] Commercial 579943 om (409)899-3300 [email protected] Lee Y.
