of Mary Washington NCHEMS Productivity Analyses

In a study dated September 2010, the National Center for Higher Systems (NCHEMS) undertook a review of the Virginia higher education institutions relative to each institution’s SCHEV-approved peer group. This is a summary of NCHEMS data as they pertain to the University of Mary Washington.

The NCHEMS study examined a number of measures, including:

1. First-year retention rate (performance measure) 2. Six-year graduation rate (performance measure) 3. Undergraduate credentials per 100 FTE undergraduates (performance measure) 4. Index score of measures 1 through 3 above relative to expenditures (productivity measure) 5. Expenditures per degree weighted by STEM and Health (productivity measure for high value degrees) 6. Weighted Average SAT Critical Reading/Math and ACT Composite (quality measure)

The study compared the performance of UMW to the average of all institutions within the same Carnegie classification and to UMW’s peer group, which includes the following institutions:

Ramapo College of New Jersey University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Millersville University of Pennsylvania University of Wisconsin-River Falls Westfield State College Sonoma State University Mansfield University of Pennsylvania Eastern Connecticut State University Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts
