As the weather begins to cool down, conditions are ideal for taking a walk in Central Park, checking out a different playground, or playing 9-holes at the Grayslake Golf Course. Upcoming Events Fall is the season for family fun at the Grayslake Park District. Mark your calendar for these upcoming family-friendly classes and events: • Pumpkin Fest – Oct. 18 (rain date: Oct. 25) • Family Dodgeball – Nov. 11 • Family Bingo Night – Nov. 16 • Movie in the Gym – Nov. 18 • Polar Express Storytime Train – Dec. 2 • Winter Wonderland Walk with Santa – Dec. 16 A Big Thank You We would like to thank the many people, community members, businesses, sponsors, and vendors who helped make the Annual Taste of Grayslake Family Picnic & Fireworks such a success. Even though Mother Nature turned the heat up on us, the event still drew thousands of people from the Grayslake community to Central Park for an afternoon of family fun. A big thank you to our partners, the Village of Grayslake and Grayslake Chamber of Commerce, for their continued support of this community wide event – we couldn’t do it without them. A very special thanks goes out to the Grayslake Police Department and Grayslake Fire Protection District who worked all day to ensure the safety of everyone in attendance. Save the date: next year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, June 29, 2019! Park Improvements Over the summer, the Park District was busy working to update park facilities in the community. The playground at Cambridge Park in the College Trail subdivision was replaced with new equipment, along with installation of new benches, additional drainage, and new wood fiber surfacing. If you haven’t seen the new playground at Cambridge Park, be sure to stop by and check it out. At Sunrise Park, the pavement was replaced on the basketball courts, along with installation of new fencing and basketball hoops. Due to growing community interest in the game, pickleball courts were also incorporated at Sunrise Park. Pickleball is similar to tennis, but instead of racquets players use paddles to hit a perforated plastic ball over a slightly lower net. If you’re already a huge pickleball fan or if you’re new to the sport, swing by Sunrise Park to practice your skills.
