The ballet will be accompanied by the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. This timeless classic epitomises the seamless integration of the beauty and grace of ballet, while showcasing the depth of balletic by Leanè Theunissen as the Black talent in a truly South African Swan, Odile and Conrad Nusser as company. Dizu Plaatjies, former leader of the group, Amampondo and a music maestro in his personal capacity, will conduct a series of workshops throughout the year teaching the art of making music with the use of indigenous instruments including the mbira and kudu horns among others. The fruits of their labour will culminate into a concert in August presenting these unique sounds. The aim of the artist-in-residence project, which will be ongoing, is to eventually produce an Indigenous Orchestra celebrated equally in the classical music genre as Western Symphony Orchestras.
