The UN projects that come 2050 Pakistan will have a population in upwards of 300 million. Although Pakistan's current population may be just over half of the US, their land mass is only about twice the size of California. Feeding, clothing, housing, and maintaining the quality of life for this dense population is one of Pakistan's greatest challenges. A particularly troublesome challenge has been the uneven distribution. Pakistan's uneven distribution is exemplified by the high density cities of Karachi, Lahore, and Faisalabad to the east and the sparse plains of Baluchistan as seen below. Every few days, a new Bot machine drops; two have been in LA while the other two have been in more far-flung corners of the country. One showed up in Big Sur, on the California coast, and the other in Oklahoma at the Blue Whale of Catoosa SNAPCHAT SPECTACLES With every drop, people are tweeting their excitement and disappointment, getting their hopes up during the countdown only to have them dashed when the Bot is hundreds or thousands of miles away. And the Spectacles Twitter account catalogs all the ups and downs, retweeting fans who get their hands on the glasses and frustrated potential buyers still waiting for the Bot to show up in New York City. SNAPCHAT SPECTACLES It's proved to be a pretty brilliant strategy at driving hype: Dozens of people show up at the vending machines within minutes, and the glasses are always sold out within an hour or two.

    INTERNATIONAL TRADE UNION CONFEDERATION INTERNATIONALLY-RECOGNISED CORE LABOUR STANDARDS IN PAKISTAN REPORT FOR THE WTO GENERAL COUNCIL REVIEW OF TRADE POLICIES OF PAKISTAN (Geneva, 16 and 18 January 2008) EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Pakistan has ratified the eight core ILO labour conventions. However, all the core labour standards are violated massively and flagrantly. Pakistan has ratified both the core ILO conventions protecting trade union rights. However, the rights enshrined in both conventions are violated on a regular basis. Much legislation has been enacted that withdraws workers’ freedom of association and there is insufficient protection against anti-union discrimination. Several classes of workers are excluded from protection by the provisions of national labour law and several classes of employment are inappropriately defined as essential services, thereby depriving those workers of the right to collective bargaining or to strike. Workers in export processing zones (EPZ's), teachers and health workers, and workers at enterprises such as Pakistan International Airlines, Open Railways, and Karachi Shipyards cannot form trade unions, bargain collectively or strike. Pakistan has equally ratified both the core ILO Conventions on discrimination. However, discrimination against women is a serious problem. Harassment at the workplace is a widespread activity against which there is no national law in force. Pakistan has ratified the ILO’s two core conventions on child labour. However, child labour is a very serious problem in the country and more measures need to be taken urgently to combat it through allocating more resources to provide universal free education and social protection combined with labour inspection. Child labour inspectors lack resources and corruption impedes their work.

    PUTAJ – Humanities and Social Sciences Vol. 26, No.1 (January-June), 2019 Exploring Structure and Content: Genre Analysis of a Pakistani Clothing Brand Website Fizza Farrukh*& Wasima Shehzad Abstract Analyzing the genre of websites helps in understanding the minimum requirements expected out of that particular virtual space. The idea of understanding the structure and content of a well-established e-commerce website is particularly important for those who are relatively novice in the field. For this purpose, the current study investigates how a popular Pakistani clothing brand has constructed its website by keeping its potential users in forefront. The theoretical framework comprises of genre-based approaches of Swales (1990) and Bhatia (2014). Moreover, the investigation outlines how genre-based studies help in understanding the meaning-making processes prevalent in the minds of the creators of that genre. The study also compares and contrasts the studied website with other similar websites to provide an overall comprehension of this sub-genre in particular. Keywords: Female education; economic development; women empowerment; Pakistan Introduction Formulating a discourse community for the users, websites become viable mediums to disseminate information (Mohd & Ali, 2015). Beyond the fulfillment of this basic functionality, websites’ genres will vary with variation in their targeted audience (Emigh & Herring, 2005). For example, Miller and Shepherd (2004) explored blog websites in their study, and argued that this genre fulfills rhetorical needs of the users, by providing a virtual space to them for writing their thoughts. The genres of websites of business companies designated for e-commerce (i.e. online stores) have been investigated by a limited number of studies (Mohd & Ali, 2015).
