Aunon was selected by NASA in 2009. Board certified in Internal and Aerospace Medicine, she recently served as Flight Engineer on the International Space Station for Expeditions 56 and 57. During her time on orbit, the crews contributed to hundreds of experiments in biology, biotechnology, physical science and Earth science aboard the International Space Station. Investigations were led into new cancer treatment methods and algae growth in space. The crew also installed a new Life Sciences Glovebox, a sealed work area for life science and technology investigations that can accommodate two astronauts. Serena’s first flight, she logged in 197 days in space. She currently covers medical issues and on-orbit support in the Astronaut Office. Personal Data: Born April 9, 1976 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Considers Fort Collins, CO, to be her home town. Married to Jeff Chancellor and she has a stepdaughter, Serafina Chancellor. TABLE 1 GEOLOGIC FIELD-TRAINING OF NASA ASTRONAUTS BETWEEN JANUARY 1963 AND NOVEMBER 1972 The following is a year-by-year listing of the astronaut geologic field training trips planned and led by personnel from the U.S. Geological Survey’s Branches of Astrogeology and Surface Planetary Exploration, in collaboration with the Geology Group at the Manned Spacecraft Center, Houston, Texas at the request of NASA between January 1963 and November 1972. Regional geologic experts from the U.S. Geological Survey and other governmental organizations and universities s also played vital roles in these exercises. [The early training (between 1963 and 1967) involved a rather large contingent of astronauts from NASA groups 1, 2, and 3. To: Mr. James DeSantis, Astronaut Memorial Foundation NASA Kennedy Space Center November 11, 1996 "Veterans Day" is a good moment to reflect on people who have died in the service of the United States, and in particular, on people who have died in the service of the manned space activities of this country. We are still trying to establish in your mind that Major Robert Lawrence was one such person. Regarding your correspondence with Mr. Roger Blanchard of the AF Personnel Center, I want to make sure you have the "big picture" regarding whether or not he should be formally recognized as a "dead American astronaut" on the "Astronaut Memorial Foundation". A recent exchange of letters between you and the AF indicates to me that, while you are being technically accurate, you both are still missing the point. Whether or not Major Lawrence ever earned (or deserved) "Air Force Astronaut Status" is irrelevant, since that is not what is necessary to gain recognition by the AMF, as you realize. Neither USAF Major Charles Bassett, nor USAF Captain Theodore Freeman, ever earned that status, yet they are both on the memorial BECAUSE THEY WERE KILLED IN TRAINING FOR THE ASTRONAUT PROGRAM. So they were undeniably "real astronauts" even if they did not have formal USAF "astronaut status". Unless it is your position that both Bassett and Freeman are on the memorial erroneously and should be removed (and of course you don't advocate that, nor do I), you must accept that Major Lawrence's case is a precise analog of theirs. -

The possibilities of what can be discovered by conducting research on the ISS are endless and have the potential to contribute to the greater good of life on Earth and inspire generations of researchers to come. -

March 16, 2018 The Caller Christian Community Presbyterian Church Newsletter There are two very interesting conversations in Christian circles I could eagerly share with you this month. One is the European Catholics grappling with various translations to the Lord’s Prayer. You might think the prayer Jesus gave his disciples 200 years ago would be above controversy. Yet, the Spanish, French, and the Italian Catholic’s are changing the sixth petition: “Do not submit us to temptation” to “Let us not enter into temptation.” Pope Francis, who is at odds with Vatican theologians, agrees with the change, saying, “A father does not push someone into temptation.” I also wanted to comment on the passing of Billy Graham, who Martin Marty said in 2013, would be with Jonathan Edwards and Martin Luther King Jr, part of the Mount Rushmore of American religious history. Instead I decided to share more local concerns. The Session has been very busy with important leadership duties during the past two months. Since some of you are interested in process, “how the sausage is made.” To catch you up on what we have been working on, I had our Clerk, Amy Littlefield, write up some extended Session highlights. It is joy to serve with you, James Brassard Session Highlights for February & March 2018 Mexico Mission Trip Justin reported that the July mission trip to Mexico now has 30 people (youth and adults) signed up to go at this time. Besides Scrip sales, the youth will be conducting several other fundraising opportunities, The Mission council will consider a congregation-wide appeal for support. -

This is Whitson’s third long-duration stay onboard the space station, and in March her mission was extended into September, increasing the amount of valuable astronaut time available for experiments on board the station. She is scheduled to surpass NASA astronaut Jeff Williams's 534 days on April 24. In February, Whitson will become the first woman to command the space station twice. She previously commanded the station in 2007, when she became the first woman to hold this post, NASA said. Their arrival means the staff at the orbiting outpost goes back up to six. The award was presented by Past Commodore Reckard at the Review of the Fleet celebration, May 8. Pat has served on numerous commit• tees at SSYC over the years and has been especially active on the House Committee in recent years. Many of the continuing improvements to our facility are a direct result of Pat's efforts. The walls and trophy case at SSYC are adorned with many awards won in power and sail competition.
