MANAGER OF WORKS Shire of Jerramungup Located on the South Coast of , the Shire of Jerramungup is renowned for its pristine beaches around Bremer Bay, vibrant communities and biodiversity hotspots. The Shire is strategically located between Albany and Esperance and is 440 kilometres South East of . The Shire requires a new Manager of Works to join the Executive Management Team to build upon past success and guide the Shire through the next phase of development and growth. The preferred candidate will be a natural leader, excellent communicator and demonstrate strong civil works skills to enable them to deliver the Shire’s infrastructure and maintenance programs. The position will be offered on a performance based contract of up to five years with an attractive remuneration package which includes a base salary range of $95,000 – $120,000, generous superannuation, rent free executive housing in Jerramungup, utility subsidy, professional development, private use of a Council vehicle and 5 weeks annual leave. Statement Addressing the Selection Criteria The selection criteria includes the skills, knowledge, experience and, if required, qualifications of the position. REMUNERATION AND POSITION INFORMATION The position is offered under a performance based employment contract, between 3 – 5 years, with an attractive total employment package. Salary and benefits may be subject to negotiation and could include but not limited to: base salary of between $95,000 – $120,000, generous superannuation, utilities, membership fees, full private use of a motor vehicle and associated Fringe Benefits Tax.

Cash Salary Depending on qualifications, skills, experience and demonstrated performance capacity the estimated cash salary range for this position is $95,000 – $120,000 pa.

Superannuation The Shire has an attractive co-contribution superannuation policy whereby the Shire will contribute additional superannuation at a rate of $1.50 : $1.00 up to an additional 9% (this requires the employee to salary sacrifice up to 6%).

Shire Vehicle The Shire will provide the successful applicant with full private use of a vehicle anywhere in the State. The current standard of vehicle is a Ford Ranger XLT which is fully maintained and serviced by the Shire. The vehicle package value is $17,195 (WALGA valuation).

Residential Location/Office Location The Shire provides a 4x2 residence, rent free, for the Manager of Works in Jerramungup. The nominal value of this accommodation provision is $250 per week. Alternatively, the successful applicant may choose to provide their own accommodation taking advantage of Council’s housing subsidy – $70 per fortnight in Jerramungup and $140 per fortnight in Bremer Bay.

Utilities Subsidy The Shire provides the Manager of Works with the following utilities subsidies:  Gas bottle replacement at no cost  Water services at no cost  Home telephone at no cost

Professional Development The Shire supports the membership of professional bodies and attendance at conferences. Allowance of $3,500 per annum.

Additional  Uniform allowance  Mobile phone and Laptop provided  Professional Development opportunities  10 Executive days per year

Relocation Costs The Shire will reimburse up to $4,000 towards the cost of removal and relocation expenses for the new Manager of Works and personal effects, but not vehicles. A reimbursement schedule (should the applicant leave the Shire of Jerramungup’s employ) will apply as follows:  0 – 12 months 100% of costs to be reimbursed  12 – 24 months 50% of costs to be reimbursed  24 months + 0% of costs to be reimbursed Annual Leave You are entitled to 5 weeks paid annual leave each year.

Probationary Period The successful applicant will be required to successfully complete a six (6) month probationary period and review process.

Medical Examinations All prospective employees are required to undergo a pre-employment medical examination at the Shire’s expense.

Police Clearance The successful applicant will be required to obtain a Police Clearance.

Key Result Areas Key Result Areas will be determined by the CEO and reviewed annually during the term of the contract. Within the first three months of employment the CEO will determine a set of Key Result Areas based on the Strategic Community Plan and Corporate Business Plan which will largely reflect the following areas:  Organisational Leadership  Financial Management  Special Project Management  Organisational Effectiveness and Governance

GENERAL INFORMATION The Shire of Jerramungup is located within the Amazing South Coast region of Western Australia.

Figure 01: Location of Jerramungup (B) in relation to Perth WA (A) The town of Jerramungup was established in 1953 as a war service settlement area and gazetted in 1957. The Shire of Jerramungup was established as its own local authority on 1 July 1982 having been annexed from the . Although it is only a relatively young municipality, it is rich in history and proud of its heritage. It is located in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, 180 kilometres northeast of Albany and 440 kilometres southeast of the state capital, Perth. The Shire covers an area of 6,507 square kilometres and has a population of approximately 1,133. The area is recognised as a strong agricultural region for grain and livestock production, with high biodiversity values, strong tourism potential and various mining prospects. The Shire is recognised internationally for its biodiversity and human interaction with the landscape. The town of Bremer Bay is developing rapidly with a developing aquaculture industry and is attracting increasing tourism activity. Bremer’s unspoilt coastline invites fishing, beach combing, whale watching, surfing and swimming. The area is also synonymous with a unique and picturesque natural environment highlighted by the presence of the Fitzgerald River National Park and the Bremer Canyon. The Fitzgerald River National Park, located east of Jerramungup and Bremer Bay, and easily accessible from both towns, is one of the largest national parks in Australia. It contains 20 per cent of the State's described plant species. The park covers 329,039 hectares and is one of the most diverse botanical regions in the world, featuring more than 1,800 species of plants. The Shire faces some challenges moving forward, however, the Shire’s potential is unlimited and unlocking the regions path to prosperity is of significant importance. 8 POSITION INFORMATION – MANAGER OF WORKS

Jerramungup is the main town and administrative centre of the Shire and is approximately 50 minutes’ drive from the coastal town of Bremer Bay where the Shire’s Development Services team is located.

Shopping Facilities A variety of local stores including an IGA supermarket, newsagencies, roadhouses, BankWest branch facilities, hotel/motel/resort, hair dresser, mechanical supplies and trades, coffee shops, rural supplies stores, dive shop and seafood supplies.

Sporting Facilities Indoor multipurpose Entertainment Centre with courts and stage facilities. Excellent grassed playing surface for football, cricket and hockey. Other competitive sports include bowls, golf, tennis, netball, basketball and darts. The Jerramungup and Bremer Bay Sports Club’s provide excellent facilities for the public to enjoy and relax after their recreational pursuits.

Education A District High School provides schooling from kindergarten to Year 10 (in Jerramungup). Primary schools are also located in Bremer Bay and Gairdner from kindergarten to Year 6. Childcare is available in Bremer Bay one day per week at the Bremer Bay Occasional Childcare Centre. Childcare is available in Jerramungup three days per week at the Jerramungup Occasional Childcare Centre.

General The community is active, progressive, friendly and enjoys a sports orientated lifestyle. District tourist attractions include:  Fitzgerald River National Park  Fitzgerald Biosphere Garden  clear water and clean beaches along the Shire’s coastline  Bremer Bay skate park  excellent fishing and surfing at Bremer Bay The Shire enjoys a temperate climate throughout the year and the cooling sea breeze makes it ideal during the summer period for living comfort.
