East Perth District Basketball Association East Perth District Basketball Association Established 1946 Sponsorship and Corporate Opportunities Table of Contents Commentary from Chairman East Perth Eagles Men East Perth Eagles Women Benefit of East Perth Basketball Sponsorship East Perth Basketball Club Demographics Development Pathway East Perth Basketball Key Personnel SBL Season Home Fixtures 2015 Sponsorship Options Contact Details Commentary from Chairman – Anthony Fletcher With 60 years of club history East Perth is based at the Morley Sports and Recreation Centre, situated on Wellington Road Morley. With various finals appearances across State Basketball League (SBL) and Western Australian Basketball League (WABL), East Perth is seen as a true growth club that promotes from within its family, over many years we have strived for success that is clear with growth from the domestic competition, more competitive WABL teams, the best family based fans within the basketball ranks, there is one word that is synonymous with East Perth Eagles: FAMILY. The past season was very successful, having won the Men’s State Basketball League (SBL) Grand Final 2014, the first in the clubs history, but we must always strive to improve as individuals, and as a team, both on and off the court. As a partner of the East Perth Eagles, not only will you be lining up alongside one of the fastest growing clubs but one that’s full of rich history and managed to produce from local talent one of the Perth Wildcats, namely Tom Jervis. The success doesn’t stop here, East Perth Eagles have also managed to produce a number of development players and our head men’s coach Adam Forde as an Assistant Coach within the Wildcats ranks which is a true testament to our success as a club. You will experience a family based club with a culture second to none along with sporting entertainment we would love you to see with your own eyes. The exposure and support the East Perth Eagles attract will also help to further promote and strengthen your company’s brand. Our team of Directors along with our playing group is committed to working with you and your colleagues to meet your business objectives through what I believe will be another successful season for the East Perth Eagles. I look forward to you joining our team and helping us strive towards winning back to-back championships in 2015! East Perth Eagles Men 2014 was our most successful season at the club winning our first SBL championship since the formation of the SBL in 1989. What made this accomplishment even more special, it was done with a lineup entirely made of Australian players. While most clubs look to bring in imports from America to lead their teams, we have developed our juniors and brought them through the system to become elite athletes in their own right. East Perth players Tom Jervis and Sunday Dech are two great examples of this. Both East Perth juniors coming up through the age groups, Tom Jervis was last season’s Rookie of the Year in the National Basketball League, while Sunday Dech has earned himself a development player role with the Perth Wildcats. In addition to that Sunday Dech was also awarded the SBL leagues most improved player award. Captain Drew Williamson, a former Perth Wildcat, will lead again next season in his 5th year with the team. Alongside Drew, new additions Anthony Fisher and Rhys Vague will join us in our 2015 campaign. Both Fisher and Vague have represented the Under 19s Australian team, and both have been touted as future NBL players as like Sunday they are current Wildcat Development players. The men’s SBL side boasts 9 players that have come up through the East Perth junior ranks, an achievement most teams can’t match. What this shows is the commitment and work that both the coaches and players put in to make our club strong. We don’t buy wins, instead we develop our young players to become the best possible athletes they can be. East Perth Eagles Women The East Perth Eagles WSBL team have an interesting and dynamic group forging a new direction for the Club into the 2015 season. The Club is the talk of the town in Basketball WA, and, with rapidly growing numbers filling the ranks in all of our junior teams, our group has shared the benefit of riding the exciting wave that is very simply...bringing basketball back! As the countdown begins to the 2015 season, it is only made better by the passion and energy surrounding the entire community at East Perth. While the word, community gives a sense of friendship and alliance within our unique Club, the word, family seems much more appropriate for the bond and connection we share with one another. With the majority of players from last year returning, we have a few more exciting additions eagerly preparing to contribute to the phenomenon that is the East Perth Eagles. Led by veteran, Elizabeth Bailey and basketball stalwarts Melissa Winfield and Jodee Sontay, the women’s team bring their absolute best to training every night in anticipation of a successful season. Bailey offers the group a limitless intensity on the floor, where the discipline in her game rarely sees her come out second best in any interaction. Winfield has been the most underrated player in the WSBL for years and continues to push the limits of her wisdom with a “no fuss” approach to any challenge. Sontay in addition to her prolific playing career provides an integral part to the club leadership group. Complementing the prolific rebounding of Bailey and the wisdom of Winfield inside the paint is, Stephanie Jones. Jones is a whirlwind of energy, vision and basketball romance and one of many things we love about her, is that she brings her soul to the Club and to her team – her expressive style and unparalleled love for the Club inspires greater things from those around her. We are lucky to not only have a presence of powerful players inside the paint, but we also have a positively unconventional guard line-up. With height being a valuable asset to our team’s success this year, the tall back court of Denielle Lipscombe, Dannii Devenny and import, Kelsey Maffin, will bring basketball out of the ordinary and into the wildest basketball dreams of our avid followers. The girls are working away at delivering a more spectacular style of game to the spectator and given the talent that already exists, it will only require a little more imagination. Maffin returns after a short hiatus away from the game and in a modest and most effective way, injects flair and grace back into the game. Adding to the inexhaustible list of talent in our group, is Nicole Jorre de St Jorre – Jordy brings a definitive speed to the back court and a high basketball intellect to our team offense. She can push the ball up the floor better than anyone in the league and as a result, creates endless opportunities for her teammates. Backing Jordy as a ball handler is Hayley DeSousa, whose quietly confident disposition fuels her development as a point guard this year. Our brilliant list of players does not end there and their contribution to our program remains unrivalled around the league. What it means for our season is that we can offer a fast-paced and innovative interpretation of our great game. We can offer a sense of tradition and belonging to our supporters and junior participants. We can offer something bigger than ourselves – we can offer to bring some basketball excitement back! We would love for you ride the wave with us... Benefit of East Perth Basketball Sponsorship Right now is the perfect time to align your business or brand with the East Perth Basketball. In addition to a long and rich history in WA basketball, East Perth can be regarded as an up and coming club with an exuberant new base of volunteers, coaches, administrators and of course talented player signings. 2013 and 2014 saw sharp rises in attendance which resulted in East Perth expanding its Junior Competition into The Rise complex in Maylands in 2013. With solid leg work by import Stephanie Jones, there is a real ground swell of local school kids and public support flowing into the club from all levels. By sponsoring this illustrious association, you will not only be contributing back to a very large and passionate community, you can join other ongoing incumbent sponsors, Vorian Agency, People’s Choice, Toll Ipec, Schweigen, Bissel and Steel Blue who have all greatly benefited from their relationship with East Perth Eagles. • Media Release – WNBL Perth Lynx
MEDIA RELEASE JESSIE EDWARDS JOINS WAVE OF RETURNING PLAYERS TO PERTH LYNX The Perth Lynx have bolstered their frontcourt stocks, welcoming home Jessie Edwards for WNBL season 2020/21. After being a standout junior in Western Australia, including being named the West Coast Waves Rookie of the Year in 2013/14, Edwards moved to the University of Minnesota. She led the Gophers in blocks in each of her three seasons and finished her College career ranked sixth all-time at Minnesota in blocks and ninth for offensive rebounds. Lynx Head Coach Ryan Petrik was glad to be able to welcome Edwards back to WA, especially after seeing her perform strongly for the Adelaide Lightning in pre-season games against the Lynx last season. “Jessie was someone we were really keen to get back home after she had an opportunity interstate last season. She’s a very good rebounder and being a bit bigger and more mobile than people expect, she’s someone who will really compliment Garbin and Allen.” Edwards was rapt with the opportunity to return to Perth and looking forward to seizing the opportunity presented by a season without imports. “To earn a roster spot in Perth was always a long-term goal, but now it’s about making sure I seize the opportunity with both hands. I’ve played against a lot of the girls on the roster so it’s exciting to be able to play with them now, especially in front of my family and friends.” Edwards will play for the Kalamunda Eastern Suns in the West Coast Classic, joining a number of players on the Lynx roster who will be competing in the event.

  • Game Day Program Semi-Final 1
2018-19 WNBL Semi-final 1 v FRIDAY 25 JANUARY 6 PM DOORS OPEN 7 PM TIP-OFF AIS ARENA Round 15 Recap The final round of the regular season turned out to be more of a thriller than expected, with three out of the top four teams having to go to overtime. For the UC Capitals, a double overtime put the team’s winning streak at risk as Bendigo Spirit put everything on the line for the final game of WNBL19. But Marianna Tolo (27 points, 10 rebounds) and Kelsey Griffin (24 points, 20 rebounds stepped up to get the UC Capitals over the line. UC Capitals head coach, Paul Goriss, said that the close call was a great way to prepare the team for finals. “We haven’t been that behind in the last ten weeks, so having a game where we had to fight harder than what we’ve been used to was great. Having a double overtime game is something we hadn’t had either, so there were great learning outcomes for us heading into finals,” said Goriss. The match against Bendigo was significant in other ways for UC Capitals star, Kelly Wilson, who received her WNBL life membership. Wilson has made her mark in the 2018/19 WNBL season, climbing up to sixth on the all-time games played list and third for all-time assists. Third and fourth place was also determined after a thrilling match between the Perth Lynx and Adelaide Lightning. As the Lynx fell one point short of a win after going to overtime, they have fallen to fourth on the ladder and will therefore be the UC Capitals’ opponent for the semi-finals.
