Yeah, yeah, Powwow is months away, but I just wanted to remind ya’ll how Winnebagoes Honor our Warrior Veterans. I was looking through a box of pictures the other day, and found a picture of the Veteran’s Day parade from a few years back. It was the Veterans walking down main street Winnebago with our fl ags, one car with the Veteran’s Princess in it, and the Ambu- lance…and no one on the street. To me, that was sad, we can do better, and these two pages are my way of telling the Veteran’s, we love you, we appreciate you, and Welcome Home. Left to right: Angelina DeLeon the Winnebago Veteran’s Princess, this year’s head man dancer-Scott Aldrich, and Winnebago Veteran-Brad Blackhawk.

As we appreciate our freedoms here on our homelands, we can’t help but to think of all those fi ghting men & women who have made this all possible. For the Winnebago this means our Chiefs, Warriors and ancestors from as back as the Civil War, Spanish-American War, and Winnebago War Chief Little Priest and his Company A 34th Nebraska Volunteers. As young children we are told to dance to honor our Veterans, some of us even dance with an eagle feather in honor of our own family member that offered themselves in service to our Country and our People. Today we say ‘thank you’ in all directions to our Veterans and Servicemen & Women. Left to right: Timmy enjoying his Tiny Tott zhooda, Tonny Ga during an inter-tribal song, and Sara Snake supporting the Vet’s during their songs.

The droplets can also land on objects that people touch, such as toys or countertops. People can be exposed to and possibly infected by RSV by touching these objects and then touching their mouths or noses. Children often pass the virus to one another at their school or daycare center.

Prevention To help prevent the spread of RSV, people who have cold-like symptoms should Cover their mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, Wash their hands often with soap and water for 15–20 seconds, Avoid sharing cups and eating utensils with others, and Refrain from kissing others. There is not yet a vaccine to protect against RSV. However, for children at high risk for serious dis- ease, such as certain premature infants and infants with certain lung and heart conditions, monthly shots with a drug called palivi- zumab can help prevent serious illness during RSV season. Ask your healthcare provider if your child would be a good candidate for the drug.

Care If you think that you or your child might have an RSV infection that requires medical care, schedule an appointment with a healthcare provider. Such visits are common for young children. The healthcare provider will evaluate the sever- ity of the illness and decide how best to treat it. RSV symptoms in most infants, children, and adults clear up on their own in a week or two. Any questions or for more information, please call Shannon Wright, Public Health Nurse, 878-2258.

he Whirling Thunder Wellness Center held their Annual Halloween Masquerade Party on Saturday, October 30th, the day before the big Halloween Holiday. The party consisted of Dinner served at 5:30 and a Masquerade Powwow style dance contest, that started at 7:00 pm. Here are a number of the spooks that showed up to enjoy the evening and participate in the eve- nings activities. That’s Chester the Cheetah singing the night away.

Ghosts & Clowns alike took part in the dance contests with money prizes for everyone to the very smallest to the very scariest. Here is some clown that showed up to dance for crowd that gathered to be witness to the shanannigan’s; while even the little pumpkin’s & characters were treated to some zhooda for their trick or treats.

Dance contestants were judged on their enthusiasm, appearance, dance skills and of course their ability to win over the crowd, as part of the judging process was from the crowd’s applause; check these little monsters & witches out.

Always a Halloween favorite of the kiddies is ‘The Hulk,’ who had troubles dancing because of his huge smashing fi sts. Then the WIN camera was at home with me as I passed out Hallow- een candy for the fi rst time in like, 20 years. These little spooks seemed to enjoy themselves.
