You will also discover Little Braziers End Vale a fascinating past including historic buildings, a generous vicar and a Farm local hero who fought at the Battle of Trafalgar. 2 START: The Full Moon PH, Cholesbury HP5 2UJ. Map: Glyn Kuhn Route From the pub entrance, cross directly over the road to the common. Take the footpath down to a wide bridleway at the bottom. 1. Turn right along the often muddy bridleway for c800m to a lane. Turn 4. At the road, turn left and then immediately right. -
The Roman Finds Group Spring Conference Verulamium and the Romano-British Southeast
The Roman Finds Group Spring Conference Verulamium and the Romano-British Southeast Friday April 21st 2017 The 2017 RFG Spring Meeting is based in St Albans and will be a one day conference on Friday April 21st. It will be kindly hosted by the Verulamium Museum and will take place in Lecture Room 2. The RFG would very much like to thank all those involved with arranging this event. The conference comprises three sessions of papers with seven talks covering various aspects of finds from Verulamium and the Romano – British Southeast and is an excellent opportunity to hear about recent finds and research in this region, abstracts below. A quick-fire session entitled ‘Small Finds, Short Papers’ including three ten minute talks will take place. If you would like to display a research posters coving any artefact type, please contact the organising committee. Previous RFG meetings in Newcastle, York and Reading were oversubscribed so early booking is strongly advised. The cost of the meeting is £18 for fully paid up RFG members, £15 for students and £22 for non-members. Attendance applications can be made by filling out the form below and returning it with the required payment to the address stated. What’s included? Access to all conference sessions, finds and poster viewings. Tea, coffee, soft drinks and biscuits as per the conference programme. Visit to the Museum during the lunch break. Finds Viewing/Poster Displays/Book Sales There will be space for posters, the finds display and discussion during all breaks. There will also be space for the sale of books should anyone wish to do so. -

Home Counties North Regional Group FULL-DAY GEOLOGY FIELD TRIP Saturday 11 August 2018, 11.00 to 17.00 approx. Geology, hydrology, Iron Age geoarchaeology, and churches in the Parish of Cholesbury-cum-St Leonards, and Wendover Woods, Buckinghamshire. Led by John Wong FGS Meet at 11.00 outside the Full Moon public house, Cholesbury Lane, Hawridge Common, Cholesbury, HP5 2UH. Ordnance Survey grid reference SP936069. If you require a lift or can offer a lift, please let us know. Please bring hand lens and trowels. Lunches at Full Moon public house; afternoon refreshments in Wendover Woods (car parking in Wendover Woods is reasonable, pay on exit according to time duration of stay); you can bring a packed lunch. The Parish is on a high ridge, which extends for 4.5 miles (7.2km), rising to 760 feet AOD (230m) within the Chiltern Hills AONB. We shall see and/or discuss the following on this field trip – The history of the Full Moon public house and the Cholesbury Windmill. The local stratigraphy, structural geology, geomorphology, hydrology, drainage patterns, chalk springs and ponds. The local commemorative monument built of Buckinghamshire Puddingstones, and the petrology of local boundary stone. The geology of Hawridge, Cholesbury, Buckland Common, St Leonards and Wendover Woods. Stratigraphy in Wendover Woods reveals a full section of the Grey Chalk (former Lower Chalk) and White Chalk (former Middle Chalk and former Upper Chalk combined) Subgroups, the Melbourn Rock and Chalk Rock Formations. The origin, sedimentary structures and provenance of Holocene Red Clay and pebbly- clay in a disused pit, Pleistocene Clay-with-Flint in a disused pit and the archaeology of scattered strike flints. -

Glossary 54 1 | P a g e Wendover Neighbourhood Plan- Made version FOREWORD This Neighbourhood Plan is the culmination of many consultations with residents and businesses in the Parish of Wendover. It will be valid until 2033. A Neighbourhood Plan is only concerned with land use and development, not community facilities directly, although it can be used to propose detailed actions and use of S106 agreements by directing funding as suggested during the evidence gathering. This Plan is not intended to simply restrict or prevent development occurring in the Parish, but will focus the local Planning Authority’s attention on the wishes of us, the residents, in the development of Wendover. It will serve as an aide to help developers focus on the requisites for successful and appropriate development, sympathetic to our Parish, the history and setting within the Green Belt and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. -

Report Providing a Tourism Baseline in the HS2 Corridor
The volume and value of tourism in the HS2 corridor of the Chilterns AONB A baseline study Prepared by: TSE Research Services 40 Chamberlayne Road Eastleigh Hampshire SO50 5JH Contributors and dedication Dedication This report is dedicated to Shirley Judges, (1949-2014), a passionate supporter and ardent protector of the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Without Shirley’s infectious enthusiasm this project would not have happened. Shirley gave unstintingly of her time and energy to protect the area she loved from HS2, but she also knew the importance of assembling robust evidence, using recognised research methods and arming oneself with the relevant facts and figures to fight a cause. Drive and determination had to matched by the evidence. Shirley wanted a proper baseline study on the value of tourism threatened by HS2. At her specific request we raised the money and commissioned Tourism South East, a specialist tourist organisation with a research arm, to undertake the study. The Chilterns Conservation Board, where Shirley had been a dedicated board member for 10 years, kindly agreed to manage the project. Shirley’s wish was to petition to the Select Committee. Through this report she will.
