Croatia, here we come! Liziwe Mbha [email protected]

Florida — The students of the Fusion Dance International Studio have quali- fi ed to compete in an international dance competition in Croatia. The studio competed in the South African DanceStar competition and qualifi ed to com- pete in the DanceStar World Dance Masters which will consist of groups from around the globe competing in the prestigious tourna- ment to earn the coveted trophy. Studio owner and choreographer, Marlize Burger, said her team has had an exceptional year thus far. “We took part in so many competitions and we’ve taken so many trophies home. Obviously, DanceStars was one of the competitions that stood out for us and even when the odds were stacked against us, we did well. Now we have Croatia ahead of us and we have to start seriously raising money in order for all of us to go. “The ten-day competition in Croatia takes place in May 2018. It’s structured the same way as the local one but we have 29 countries competing against us on every platform, level and categories, obviously blowing open the capabilities of what other countries can do.” Marlize said they are doing all they can to grant the girls the op- portunity to compete internationally. “After qualifying at DanceStars last year and not being able to afford it, our plan was to go for it all the way this time, so even though we like other competitions a lot and we will be entering them again in future, our plan for now is to compete in Croatia in May fi rst. Sadly, all who qualifi ed won’t be able to go to Croatia with us.” The team members who qualifi ed for Croatia at DanceStar SA 2017 are: Primary School AJ de Beer, Wilmie Kasselman, Thando Mazibuko, Chanike Dercksen, Laquisha Marshall, Dedrè Bekker, Maria Prinsloo, Isabel Jansen, Amy Kreusch, Veroniek Scheepers, Caitlyn de Ponte, Andrei Pre- torius, Aneecka Bezuidenhout, Cassidy Nortman, Kiara Hijbeek, Chantal Davel, Jadyn Parkes, Landi van der Merwe, Lyanè Viljoen, Mishka van Rensburg, Mieke Haar- hoff, Sage Bender, Tatiana Venter, Shakayla Roux, Shinay Maartens, Jasmine Hobbs, Danè Bico, and Luanne Steyn High School Zanè Bekker, Jamie Francis, Danielle Hubbard, Aimee Saunders, Jeanelle de Bruyn, Christene Goldman, Mikaela de Pon- te, Alicia Smith, Chanè Viljoen, Chaldene Viljoen, Jessica O’lehile, Chanel Horne, Nicole Pretorius, Toni de Jesus, Bernadine Erasmus, Teneal Brits, Jordyn Alexander, and Lizèl van der Merwe Teachers who danced and qualifi ed with fi rst places: Marlize Burger (choreographer), Jolene Herwill, Danielle du Chenne, Nicola van Rooyen, Edwin Sebilwane and David Len- gora.
