By accepting an archive for deposition, Wiltshire Museum is committing to the long-term care of that archive in line with current best practice recommendations. Storage fees charged to commercial organisations depositing archives with us contribute to, but do not completely cover the costs of, the long-term physical storage of the archive, and staff time in documenting, promoting, and providing access to the archive over its lifetime. In this context access includes (but is not limited to) display, researcher access, outreach, education, loan and online promotion. These standards were last updated in September 2019 with reference to the deposition guidelines used by other collecting museums in our area and current best practice documents.

  • Churchfields – the Village School
    Churchfields – The Village School. A review of our school year 2010 – 2012. We have decided as a school, for the second year running, to write a review of our school year. The review helps us to celebrate our work as a school community and remind us of the enormous number of things our school has achieved throughout the year. Achievement which would not be possible without the support of our whole school community; pupils, all our staff, school governors members of the local authority who support us, parents, cares and grandparents, classroom helpers from within our two villages, the vicars and members of our local parish churches and the support of local businesses in our villages. Our school is dynamic place and is continually changing and growing in different directions, this year has been no exception, especially in the area of staffing. In the summer term Ms. Calleja, Mrs. Heywood, and Ms. Manifold relocated, retired and remodelled their careers. As a result three new members joined the teaching staff in September; Ms. Pile at the Monkton Farleigh base, and Ms. Ottner and Ms. Martin at the Atworth base. All three of our new members of staff have settled in well and are making a very positive contribution to our school. We performed well as a school in the 2012 Key Stage Two Tests with all our children achieving 1005 level 4 and above in both English and Maths. This was an excellent result and is a result of the hard work of all the members of our school community. We are in times of great change due to the economic circumstances which are driving future resourcing and planning.

The appeal is made by Solar Planning Ltd against the decision of Wiltshire Council. The application Ref 14/05253/FUL, dated 23 May 2014, was refused by notice dated 24 September 2014. The development proposed is a ground mounted solar farm, associated works and ancillary infrastructure. Decision 1. The appeal is dismissed. Procedural Matters and Main Issues 2. In response to a request for a screening opinion under Regulation 5 of the Town and Country Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations 2011 the Council determined that an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was not required in this case. On receipt of the appeal, the Secretary of State came to the same view. 3. On 20 January 2015 the Wiltshire Core Strategy (WCS) was adopted. Policies C1 and C34 of the West Wiltshire District Plan First Alteration cited in the reason for refusal have been replaced by those in the WCS. The main parties were asked for their comments on any implications for the determination of the appeal and I have taken the views expressed into account. 4. The Ministerial Written Statement published on 25 March 2015 as it relates to solar farms reinforces existing guidance in respect of the use of best and most versatile agricultural land.

    Wiltshire Churchyard Yews An Inventory By Peter Norton By kind permission of the Wiltshire Geology Group Introduction: Wiltshire is roughly rectangular in shape, measuring about 54 miles from north to south and 34 from west to east. It is bounded in the north by Gloucestershire, along most of its western edge by Somerset, in the south west by Dorset, in the south east by Hampshire and along about half of its eastern side by Berkshire. The name is derived from that of the former county town of Wilton, and was recorded as Wiltunscir in an 870AD docu- ment. Ancient Wilton took the name from the Anglo-Saxon Wilsaetes tribe living on the banks of the River Wylye. The surface geology of Wiltshire follows relatively simple lines. The former cover of Chalk and earlier Cretaceous rocks has been removed by erosion in the basin of the Wiltshire Avon, leaving a prominent scarp trending generally NE/SW across the centre of the County. To the northwest, the Jurassic rocks crop out in succession, dipping south eastwards under the Chalk. To the southeast, the Cretaceous rocks form the high ground of the Marlborough Downs and Salisbury plain. In the southeast corner there are some small outcrops of Tertiary rocks at the extreme edge of the Hampshire Basin. Two major vales finger into the Chalk outcrop, the Vale of Pewsey, floored by Lower Cretaceous rocks, and the Vale of Wardour, which cuts down as far as the Upper Jurassic rocks. Wilts’county records list 451 towns, villages and hamlets. Churches are found in the majority of towns and villages, with 339 having at least one Anglican Church.

Matters Arising The library in Bradford-on-Avon is now open for returns and pre ordered books. More gel bags are on order in case of flooding. The kissing gate is not going ahead. 4. Report from Trevor Carbin The road to South Wraxall is now repaired and re-opened. Wiltshire Council are planning new Area Board boundaries for implementation in May 2021. 5. Village Speed Limits update Liz Watts briefed the Area Transport group on her ideas to reduce the speed limit throughout Monkton Farleigh. The Councillors have been sent notes on the main details of her proposals. The Area Transport group have offered to get Atkins to do a detailed consultation about traffic and speed in Monkton Farleigh. Atkins are a specialist Highways consultant. After some discussion, it was felt that this would be data analysis rather than the wider issue of speeding traffic in the community and it is quite expensive so it was agreed that we wouldn’t go ahead with this for the time being.
