The Brother Rice administration along with the officers and directors of the Circle of Champions are proud to announce the newest members of the Circle of Champions , the Brother Rice Athletics Hall of Fame.

This, the Class of 2013, will be inducted into the Circle on Saturday, April 13, 2013.

Tony Allen- Class of 1974- Athlete- : An All-Catholic, All-City, and All-State selection both junior and senior year, Tony continued his playing career on scholarship at .

Mike Billish- Class of 1989- Athlete- Cross Country and Track and Field: A two-time Catholic League Champion and IHSA state qualifier in cross country, Mike was also a three-time Catholic League Champion in track and field. Mike was the winner of the Tony Lawless Award as Catholic League MVP for both cross country and track and field. Mike continued his running career on an athletic scholarship to Loyola University Chicago.

Britt Booker – Class of 1995-Athlete- Basketball: A member of the 1994 IHSA Regional and Sectional championship team and the 1995 Catholic League championship team, Britt was a four-year varsity starter. A two-time All-Catholic League and an All-State selection senior year, Britt continued his playing career on scholarship at Colorado State and Northwest Missouri State.

Bob Demes- Class of 1970- Athlete- Football: A two-time All-Catholic pick and an All-State selection as a senior, Bob held a forty-two year record at Brother Rice for most touchdowns in a season with 17 touchdowns in 10 games in 1968 that held until the 2011 season. Bob continued his playing career at North Park College.

Tom Evans- Class of 1968- Athlete- : A member of the Brother Rice Baseball Hall of Fame, Tom to this day holds the state record for the lowest earned-run average in a career with an ERA of 0.21- only giving up 2 earned runs in 67.1 innings over two seasons. After graduation, Tom entered the US Marines and served a tour in Vietnam.

Bill Gleeson- Coach- Football, Track and Field, and Basketball: Bill has taught and coached at Brother Rice for over 25 years. Bill’s track team captured Catholic League in 1993, and his football team captured the Prep Bowl title in 1994 and Catholic League in 1995. Bill is a three-time Lawless winner and member of the Brother Rice Hall of Fame.

Bill Harmon- Class of 1961- Athlete- Football: A member of Brother Rice’s second graduating class, Bill was a four year member of our football program. Bill continued his playing career on scholarship at for an additional four years.

Ricky Harrigan- Class of 2002- Athlete- Basketball: Ricky holds several records in Brother Rice basketball program history including most points in a season and season scoring average. Ricky was a 2002 All-Catholic League, All- State, and Lawless selection. Ricky played at Augustana College and was an All- American his senior year.

Br. Paul Ickes, CFC- Athletic Director and Coach- and Basketball: Brother Ickes has taught and coached at Brother Rice for 23 years. Brother Ickes founded the volleyball program with Coach Dan Dwyer and Brother Toole in 1993, and in that time the team has captured eight Catholic League, fourteen IHSA Regional, and five IHSA Sectional titles. Brother Ickes has amassed more victories than any other boys’ volleyball coach in the state of

Bill Judge- Class of 1988- Athlete- Baseball: A member of the Catholic League Champion team in 1987, Bill was an All-Area and All- State selection in 1988. Bill continued his playing career on a baseball scholarship at North Central College where he was an All-American both junior and senior year, and he was later drafted by the Chicago Cubs.

Chris Kozlarek- Class of 2002- Athlete- Volleyball: Chris was the 2002 Illinois State Volleyball Player of the Year. Chris was also the Lawless winner and a three time All-Catholic League pick. Chris continued his career at Loyola Chicago and was an All-American as a senior. Chris continues to play professional volleyball in Europe.

Jack Malone- Class of 1974- Athlete- Track and Field, Football, and Cross- Country: A member of the 1974 Catholic League Championship team for track and field, Jack was a two-time All-Catholic selection. Jack set the Br. Rice record in the two-mile that stood for thirty-three years. Jack received an athletic scholarship to Loyola Chicago and is listed as one their all-time letter winners.

Tony Michalek- Class of 1978- NFL Official and Athlete- Football, Basketball, and Baseball: An All-Catholic pick, Tony was a member of the 1975 Prep Bowl Championship team. As a three-sport athlete, Tony was also a member of the 1976 State Championship baseball team. Tony played football on scholarship at Indiana University and has been an NFL Official for eleven years.

Frank Mulcrone- Class of 1989- Athlete and Coach- and Water Polo: Coached by his father Jim ‘Moose’ Mulcrone and joining him in the Circle of Champions, Frank was an All-Catholic League, All-State, and All-American swimmer and water polo player. During his four years, the water polo team won the state championship three times. Frank continued his playing career at Slippery Rock College and also served as an assistant coach at Brother Rice.

Cliff Petrak- Class of 1960- Coach- Baseball, , and Hockey: A member of the first graduation class of Brother Rice, Cliff returned to Brother Rice as a teacher and coach and remained at Brother Rice his entire career. The only Brother Rice coach in history to be the head coach for three sports, Cliff’s teams won numerous titles over the years and he has also authored two baseball coaching books.

Dr. Scott Plaehn- Class of 1983- Athlete- Baseball: An All-Catholic League selection, Scott was a member of the Brother Rice team that finished in 2 nd place in the IHSA State Finals in 1981. Scott continued his playing career at Illinois Benedictine College and amassed numerous awards.

Joe Schissler- Class of 1992- Athlete- Football and Baseball: In baseball, Joe pitched a perfect game as a junior and is tied for fifth in the IHSA record book with eleven consecutive strike outs in a game. An All-Catholic football pick and team co-MVP , Joe still holds the Br. Rice record for most rushing yards in a season. Collegiately, Joe played at St. Francis and finished at Elmhurst College capturing MVP honors.

Randy Schwartz- Class of 1977- Athlete- Baseball: An All- Catholic League choice and honorable-mention All-State and All-American at Rice, Randy continued his collegiate baseball career on scholarship as a four year starter at Creighton University. As a senior, Randy was fourth in the nation with a batting average of .457.

Tom Tracy – REST IN PEACE- Class of 1965- Athlete- Basketball and Track and Field: A two-year starter and senior co-captain in basketball, Tom was also a Catholic League hurdles champion and co-captain as a senior. Tom continued his athletic career at DePaul University and started three years for legendary DePaul Basketball Coach Ray Meyer.

Charlie Yanz- Class of 1964- Athlete- Football and Vic Yanz- Class of 2000- Athlete- Football: The first father-son duo to be elected to the Circle of Champions in the same year, Charlie was a four-year football player and continued his playing career on scholarship at the University of Michigan where he received the Meyer-Morton Award. His son, Vic, was an All-Catholic and All-State selection and is one of only two Brother Rice players to win MVP honors in back to back seasons. Vic also lettered in football at Cornell University for four years.

Cesar Zambrano- Class of 2003- Athlete- Soccer : A four year soccer standout at Rice, Cesar was a two-time All-State selection. Cesar played collegiate soccer at the University of Illinois Chicago and garnered numerous Horizon League awards as well as a conference title and MVP award. In 2008, Cesar was drafted by the Colorado Rapids in the Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft.
