2016 ANNUAL REPORT A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Friends of the Caddie Scholarship Fund,

2016 was another great success in achieving the mission of our Fund. We celebrated 60 years of providing assistance to every qualified candidate with demonstrated need. This year we granted 84 new scholarships to students who have worked “in service to golf” at our member clubs. For the first time, the CSF granted seven Honorary Scholarships. Honorary Scholarships are given to applicants that fulfill the requirement of “service to golf” but will not be granted a monetary scholarship due to the lack of financial need. There are currently 287 WGA Caddie Scholars attending 140 educational institutions or trade schools, coming from 61 of our 72 member clubs. We are committed to pay $1.1M in tuition this year. Our top award hit $10,000 per year, and our average award was $4,000 per year.

We finalized a partnership with the Evans Scholars Foundation, one of the largest providers of college scholarship in the United States. It provides “full” scholarships to certain partner schools, and starting with applicants for entrance to school in the fall of 2017, we expect to be presenting co- branded Westchester Evans scholarships to young men or women from our area. Anyone not receiving this award is eligible to apply for our traditional scholarship. We are excited about this opportunity for our caddies.

Our events were all successful. The Pro-Am was a near sellout at Quaker Ridge, and the club went above and beyond to complete the day despite a brief thunderstorm. The alumni turned out in full force at The Apawamis Club, and we continue to establish better relations with this group. The CSF Marathon set a new record for the number of holes played at Brae Burn and over $85,000 raised. The Friends of the Fund Best Ball celebrated its second year at Hudson National with almost twice as many participants. A new event was added to the schedule this year as the Fund partnered with Greg Hickey for a hugely successful outing

2 in honor of his brother, Christopher C. Hickey, at the Country Club of Darien.

It was an honor to serve as the President of the Fund, and I appreciate the support that each of you have given this year. With your help, we look forward to continuing to grow the Fund.

OUR MISSION The WGA Caddie Scholarship Fund (CSF) is a 501(c)(3) not- for-profit organization that fosters the core values of personal responsibility, integrity and perseverance by giving young men and women in service to golf the opportunity to further en- hance their lives through the pursuit of higher education. The Fund provides college scholarships to qualified candidates based on financial need. OUR HISTORY The WGA Caddie Scholarship Fund was established in 1956 by renowned amateur golfer Willie P. Turnesa and his good friend, Udo Reinach. With over 2,500 recipients since its founding, the Caddie Scholarship Fund has provided in excess of $10,000,000 in scholarship funding. OUR SCHOLARSHIPS The CSF is one of the largest organizations of its kind in the na- tion. Caddie scholarship awards range from $1,000 to $10,000 per year for undergraduate study or for study at an accredited trade school. Maximum awards are reserved for exceptional students with exceptional need.

33 ELIGIBILITY Applicants must demonstrate financial need, have applied to or currently attend an accredited school, and have worked a minimum of two seasons in service to golf at a WGA member club. Service to golf includes caddying, golf course maintenance, and work in the golf shop, bag room or on the practice range. Club members and their children are not eligible to apply. FUNDING The CSF finances scholarship awards primarily through contributions from individuals, WGA member clubs, alumni, corporations, and foundations.

CSF PRO AM

The 35th Annual Caddie Scholarship Fund Pro Am was held on Monday, July 18, 2016 at Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale, NY. The day consisted of morning and afternoon shotguns, and an evening cocktail reception featuring a silent auction and special guest speaker, CSF Alumni ’04 Richard Thomas, current Mayor of Mount Vernon.

Prizes were awarded to winners of the team competitions, with low professionals receiving a prize as well. This fun day of golf raised close to $70,000 for scholarships. Captain Lawrence Brewing Company kindly provided a selection of beer for the event. We thank all of you who participated in this nearly sold out event.

The 8th Annual CSF Golf Marathon was held on Monday, August 29, 2016 at Brae Burn Country Club in Purchase, NY. Participants included CSF alumni, caddie masters, golf professionals and members of clubs throughout the New York Metropolitan area. The participants enlisted the support of friends, family and club members to benefit the CSF. Playing from dawn until dusk, the forty-five participants completed a record 3,056 holes and raised over $85,000.

The 1st Annual CCH Invitational was held on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at the Country Club of Darien. Friends, family, and supporters from all over came out to play golf, have some laughs, and celebrate the life of Christopher C. Hickey. The event consisted of an afternoon shotgun followed by an evening reception. There were over 50 amazing silent auction items to bid on.
