16 Game 1 - Sept. 5, 2016 Cincinnati 52, Bulldogs 10

CINCINNATI – Chances are, Alabama A&M won't be playing a school the caliber of the University of Cincinnati this season. But, following Saturday's 52-10 win by Cincinnati, the Bulldogs will be taking a lot from the defeat. "This team (Cincinnati) was picked to win the (American Athletic) conference … so we can't be ashamed about today's effort," said Alabama A&M head coach James Spady. The Bulldogs and Cincinnati were tied at the end of the first quarter, thanks to a 12-yard touchdown pass from De'Angelo Ballard to Tevin McKenzie with 5:55 left in the quarter. But, the Bearcats erupted for 28 points in the second quarter to take command of the game. "In the first quarter, there was a lot at stake," Spady said. "Once again, Cincinnati is a great football team. Coach (Tommy) Tuberville has a group of coaches who are probably some of the best." The game was the first in the newly renovated Nippert Stadium and it was delayed by about an hour and a half by storms that rolled through Cincinnati. Byran Brower was the workhouse of the A&M offense, carrying the ball 19 of the team's 37 rushing attempts for 62 yards. The Bulldogs had 98 yards rushing. Ballard had 8 carries for 23 yards and was 7 of 20 passing for 87 yards and one interception. Tight end Jonathan Dorsey was his primary target with four catches for 62 yards. The Bulldogs had 246 yards in total offense on the night. Cesar Ramon-Diaz kicked a 28-yard field goal with 3:21 left to wrap up the scoring. Despite the score, Spady said he was confident as the team prepared for its Southwestern Athletic Conference schedule starting Sept.19 at Prairie View A&M. "I feel pretty good about our chances going forward and we will continue to compete and learn from this football game," he said.

17 Game 2 – Sept. 9, 2015 Prairie View A&M 53, Bulldogs 49

WALLER, Texas -- In a game that saw both teams mount comebacks, the Bulldogs came up short Saturday against Prairie View A&M, losing 53-49. The Bulldogs (0-2 overall, 0-1 SWAC) overcame a 33-14 halftime deficit to take a 43-40 lead over the Panthers (2-1, 2-0) with less than five minutes to play. But Prairie View scored twice in the next 2:43 for a 53-43 lead en route to the 53- 49 win. The Bulldogs took the 43-40 lead on a Harvey Harris two-yard dive over the top. However, the Panthers took the ensuing kickoff and scored with 3:10 left and a 47- 43 lead. Bulldogs De'Angelo Ballard then fumbled on the next possession and Prairie View converted it into the eventual game-winning score. Alabama A&M came to within 53-49 when O'Darius Williams and Ballard combined on a 53-yard catch and run with 50 seconds left. However, the Panthers recovered the onsides kick and ran out the clock to preserve the win. Ballard finished with 96 yards rushing on 13 carries and two touchdowns - including the first score of the game. He also was 14 of 29 passing for 352 yards and three touchdowns. Williams had three catches for 137 yards and two touchdowns and Tevin McKenzie had five catches for 104 yards and a touchdown on a 2-yard run.

18 Game 3 – Sept. 26, 2015 Bulldogs 28, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 9

NORMAL – The Alabama A&M offense took a while to get warmed up Saturday, but when it did, it produced – to the detriment of visiting Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Bulldogs (1-2 overall, 1-1 SWAC) trailed 9-7 at intermission but erupted for three third- quarter touchdowns in a 28-9 Homecoming win over UAPB. The win was the first at home for second-year Head Coach James Spady and it ended a two-game losing streak to the Golden Lions. "I'm proud of the second-half adjustments our coaches made," Spady said. "Our team really gave great effort and executed well in the second half. "They pressed and won the game." Saturday's win also made the Homecoming festivities much more enjoyable for the Bulldogs fans. "It's a happy Homecoming for the Bulldog faithful," Spady said. The offense chewed up 206 yards on the ground on the strength of Harvey Harris' 131 yards rushing on 14 carries. For Harris, a sophomore, it was the third 100-yard game of his career. The Bulldogs added another 339 through the air as quarterback De'Angelo Ballard was 20 of 30 passing with no interceptions and three touchdowns while Tevin McKenzie scored three touchdowns. For UAPB, Marcus Terrell was 15 of 25 for 279 yards, one interception and one touchdown – that to Brian Handley to give the Golden Lions a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. The Golden Lions, leading 6-0, ran the score to 9-0 just 13 seconds into the second quarter on Jamie Gillan's 23-yard field goal. After that it was all A&M. McKenzie scored on a 29-yard run in Spady's pistol offense and Cesar Ramon-Diaz's point after made it 9-7 with 5:56 left in the half. The Bulldogs had a last-second chance to take the lead at the half, but Ramon-Diaz's 23-yard field was blocked. But the Bulldogs wasted little time in the second half, taking the kickoff and marching 78 yards in 7 plays, capped by a 14-yard touchdown pass from Ballard to McKenzie to take a 14-9 lead. A&M ran the score to 21-9 on a Ballard-to-McKenzie 34-yard touchdown pass. The two-play, 87-yard drive was highlighted by a 53-yard over-the-shoulder catch from Ballard to Devon Johnson. The Bulldogs later capitalized on a turnover on UAPB's next possession when Ballard found O'Darious Williams for a 9-yard touchdown pass and a 28-9 lead with 5:19 left in the third quarter.

19 Game 4 – Oct. 3, 2015 Coastal Carolina 55, Bulldogs 0

CONWAY, S.C. -- The Bulldogs entered Saturday's game at Coastal Carolina with the task of taking on the nation's No. 1 team in the Football Championship Subdivision. The top-ranked Chanticleers showed why they're the nation's top team with a 55-0 win over Alabama A&M. The Bulldogs, 1-3, trailed by just 6-0 to the Chanticleers, who are moving up to the Sun Belt Conference of the Football Bowl Subdivision. However, CCU, 5-0, exploded for 32 points in the second quarter for a 38-0 halftime lead. A&M had 110 yards rushing and just 201 yards passing on 10 of 27 attempts with 2 interceptions; De'Angelo Ballard was 7 of 17 for 160 yards with an interception and Damion May was 3 of 10 for 41 yards with one interception. They were each sacked twice. On the ground, Byran Brower had 8 carries for 42 yards to lead the Bulldogs. Tight end Jonathan Dorsey had 3 catches for 75 yards, including a 29-yard catch and run in the first quarter. Defensively, Bryan Brower (9 solo, 1 assist) and Anthony Lanier (5 solo, 5 assists) each had 10 tackles and Lanier had 3 tackles for loss for minus-11 yards. Octayvious Miles returned 8 kickoffs for 115 yards. In a highlight near the end of the third quarter, Ballard hit O'Darius Williams on a 63-yard pass to the CCU-25 but the drive stalled at the 20-yard-line in the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs (1-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference) return to SWAC play next Saturday when they visit Grambling State (3-0 SWAC). Kickoff is 3 p.m.

20 Game 5 – Oct. 10, 2015 Grambling State 37, Bulldogs 14

GRAMBLING, La. – Alabama A&M held the high-scoring Grambling State offense under its season average but couldn't generate enough offense itself in a 37-14 Tigers' win Saturday. The Southwestern Athletic Conference win improves Grambling to 4-0 (4-2 overall). The Bulldogs fall to 1-2 in the SWAC and 1-4 overall. The Tigers came into the game averaging nearly 42 points a game and held a 27-7 halftime lead but the A&M defense stymied Grambling in several series to hold the Tigers to 10 second-half points. Trailing 14-0, A&M scored with just 16 seconds left in the first quarter on Byran Brower's two-yard run to cut the Grambling lead to 14-7. In the third quarter, the Bulldogs scored on Justin Brown's 46-yard interception return to make the score 27-14. Quarterback De'Angelo Ballard had to leave the game after being injured while diving toward the endzone in an attempt to score. The Bulldogs return to action next Saturday when Jackson State visits Louis Crews Stadium for a 1 p.m. kickoff. Alabama A&M will be honoring our service men and women with Military Appreciation Day and all veterans, retired and active members of the Armed Forces, Reserves and Guard will be admitted free with proof of service.

21 Game 6 – Oct. 17, 2015 Bulldogs 28, Jackson State 22

NORMAL -- Damion May passed for two touchdowns and Octayvious Miles had a school-record 99-yard kickoff return as Alabama A&M downed Jackson State 28-22 Saturday at Louis Crews Stadium. The win improved Alabama A&M to 2-2 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference and 2-4 overall. The Tigers fall to 1-3, 1-5. The Bulldogs had 223 yards in kickoff returns with Miles compiling 167 on three runbacks and Brandon Eldemire contributing with a 56-yard kickoff return. Miles' score, his second career kickoff return for a touchdown, came after Jackson State's Ryan Deising kicked a 41-yard field goal to give the Tigers a 9-0 lead. Earlier, quarterback LaMontiez Ivy connected with Jairus Moll on a seven-yard touchdown pass but Diesing's point-after attempt hit the upright. Miles took the ensuing kickoff at the 1, ran up the sidelines and broke to the middle, outrunning the JSU defenders. May, who started in place of the injured De'Angelo Ballard, found Juaquin Davis on a 16-yard pass in the second quarter to give the Bulldogs a 13-12 lead. A two- point conversion failed when May was wrapped up by the JSU defense. Jarius Moore scored on a 4-yard run to put JSU up 19-13 at 10:18 of the third quarter. With 6:48 left in the quarter, May connected with Jonathan Dorsey on an 18-yard TD pass and recaptured the lead at 20-19. But Jackson State regained the lead on a Deising field goal with about 3 minutes to play in the third quarter. However, Harvey Harris scored the game-winner on a three-yard run with 14:16 left in the game and the two-point conversion pass from May to Roderick Randolph provided the final 28-22 score.

22 Game 7 – Oct. 31, 2015 Alabama State 35, Bulldogs 20

BIRMINGHAM -- The Bulldogs overcame a first-half 14-point deficit but couldn't climb the mountain one more time and fell to Alabama State 35-20 in the 74th annual Magic City Classic. Trailing 7-0 after the first 30 seconds and then 14-0 with 8:17 left in the first quarter, the Bulldogs rallied on a pair of Brandon Eldemire touchdowns to tie the game with 9:54 left in the second quarter. However, the Hornets answered with two more touchdowns in the quarter and added another early in the second half to clinch the win. Statistics didn't tell the story in Saturday's game. The Bulldogs had 229 yards passing and the Hornets had 228. A&M picked up 178 yards on the ground and ASU rushed for 216 yards. But quarterback De'Angelo Ballard was 17 of 44 passing for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs, the least penalized team in the SWAC, were hit with a string of penalties early in the game which stymied the offense and handcuffed the defense. A&M, which mounted a comeback to win last year's Classic 37-36, after trailing 33-21 in the fourth quarter, couldn't find the same magic this year after cutting the Hornets' 35-14 lead to 35-20 midway through the third quarter. The Bulldogs fall to 2-3 in the SWAC and host Mississippi Valley State next Saturday.

23 Game 8 – Nov. 7, 2015 Mississippi Valley 27, Bulldogs 24

NORMAL – Mississippi Valley State scored the game-tying touchdown late in the game Saturday and Ruben Piraquive kicked a 34-yard field goal in overtime to beat the Bulldogs 27-24. With the Bulldogs leading 24-17, Damion May was stopped on a fourth-and-one quarterback sneak near midfield with 5:40 left in the game. The Delta Devils then took over on a 10-play drive capped by Slade Jarman's 11- yard touchdown pass to Thomas Stokes with 3:33 left to play and Piraquive's point-after made the score 24-24. The Bulldogs won the toss to start the overtime and elected to play defense. The Delta Devils moved to the A&M 17, setting up Piraquive's field goal. In A&M's half of the overtime, Harvey Harris picked up a first down on the first play and gained two more on the next play, setting up second and eight on the 13 yard line. May then looked for Jonathan Dorsey in the endzone but his pass was deflected and intercepted on the goalline by Marquis Green to clinch the win. The Bulldogs took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter when May hit Tevin McKenzie on a 37-yard touchdown pass. Then, trailing 10-7 early in the second quarter, May combined with Dorsey for an 18-yard scoring pass. However the point-after failed and the Bulldogs led 13-10. Cesar Ramon-Diaz made it 16-10 with a 21-yard field goal midway through the third quarter but the Delta Devils regained the lead on Booker Chambers' 9-yard touchdown run. Harris put A&M back on top with a two-yard run and De'Angelo Ballard found Roderick Randolph in the endzone for the two-point conversion and a 24-17 lead with 13;39 left in the game.

24 Game 9 – Nov. 14, 2015 Southern 46, Bulldogs 7

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Octayvious Miles firmly established himself as one of the premier kickoff returners in the nation Saturday in the Bulldogs' 46-7 loss at Southern University. Miles returned eight kickoffs for a total of 192 yards - a season-high for the sophomore. However, the Jaguars dominated the game - they rolled up more than 600 yards in total offense and held Alabama A&M to 110 yards. The Bulldogs fall to 2-7 overall and 2-5 in the SWAC. They visit Alcorn State next Saturday and close out the season against Texas Southern on Nov. 28 at Louis Crews Stadium. The Jags led 13-0 after the first quarter before the Bulldogs scored their lone touchdown – an 11-yard pass from Damion May to Jonathan Dorsey early in the second quarter. The Bulldogs’ touchdown was set up when the Southern punter misplayed the snap and Justin Brown tackled him for a 23-yard loss, giving the Bulldogs possession at the Southern 24-yard-line. Earlier in the first quarter, Miles’ 38-yard return gave the Bulldogs the ball at their own 44-yard-line to set up their first possession. However, the Bulldogs turned the ball over on downs at the Southern 31-yard-line.

25 Game 10 – Nov. 21, 2015 Alcorn State 44, Bulldogs 10

LORMAN, Miss. -- It was senior day at Alcorn State, but a sophomore dominated play as the Braves beat Alabama A&M 44-10 and repeated as SWAC Eastern Division title. The Braves will face Grambling State in the SWAC championship game. Just two years ago, the Bulldogs upset Alcorn State at Spinks Stadium and kept the Braves out of the championship game. But that wasn't to happen Saturday as Alcorn set a school record for rushing yards in a game with 500. Sophomore quarterback Lenorris Footman had 142 yards rushing to lead a trio of Braves who each had more than 100 yards on the ground. The Bulldogs held Footman to just 2 of 12 passing for 51 yards. However, the A&M offense couldn't get untracked. An already thin offense lost leading receiver Tevin McKenzie to an injury early in the game and the patchwork line had to fend off a large Alcorn defensive front. Quarterback De'Angelo Ballard was 3 of 17 for 18 yards passing and he had 65 yards rushing on 16 carries and scored the Bulldogs' TD. The score came late in the game on a 13-yard run. Harvey Harris rushed for 58 yards on just eight carries. Octayvious Miles had just four returns for 32 yards and has 991 on the season. The Bulldogs close out the season Saturday against Texas Southern. It is Senior Day and kickoff is 1 p.m.

26 Game 11 – Nov. 28, 2015 Bulldogs 38, Texas Southern 7

NORMAL -- It was Senior Day for the Bulldogs and the upperclassmen all did their part in helping lead Alabama A&M to a resounding 38-7 season-ending win over Texas Southern. Brandon Eldemire rushed for 102 yards, had a kickoff return for 24 yards and scored a touchdown; Anthony Lanier had 6 tackles and 2 1/2 sacks; Corey Johnson had assists on two tackles, a sack and a tackle for loss and David Dagrin had a key tackle as the Bulldogs dominated on both sides of the ball. The Bulldogs rushed for 238 yards and had 259 yards passing while giving up just 156 yards rushing and 146 yards through the air. Some underclassmen also put in their contributions. De'Angelo Ballard was 15-of-22 for 251 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. He also had 69 yards rushing and a touchdown for 320 yards. Octayvious Miles had just one kickoff return, but it was for 11 yards, giving him 1,002 for the season. Damion May had 8 yards passing but, used as a slot receiver, he also had 17 yards rushing on five carries. DeVon Johnson had 93 all-purpose yards. Devonte Simon had an interception return for 34 yards and a fumble return for 84 yards. Nick Carden punted just once for the first time this season and it was for 38 yards. The Bulldogs, finishing 3-6 in the SWAC and 3-8 overall, took the opening kickoff and drove 77 yards in 7 plays, capped by Ballard's 37-yard TD pass to Ladarion Heath. Early in the second quarter, Devonte Simon intercepted a pass at the A&M 15 and returned it to the Bulldogs 49. Seven plays later, Harvey Harris scored on a 29-yard run and a Cesar Ramon-Diaz point-after made it 14-0 with 11:24 left in the half. After a Texas Southern touchdown, the Bulldogs made it 17-7 on Ramon-Diaz's 20-yard field goal with 40 seconds to go. After a Ballard 3-yard touchdown run in the third quarter ran the score to 24-7 the defense took over with a big play at the one-minute mark of the quarter. Texas Southern had a first and goal at the A&M 2-yard-line when Brad Woodard fumbled and Simon returned it 84 yards to the Tigers 12 yard-line. On second down, Ballard connected with Jonathan Dorsey for a 12-yard TD pass and a 31-7 lead. The Bulldogs wrapped up the scoring when Eldemire scored on a two-yard run late in the fourth quarter.
