Fr. Jeremy Dixon, C.M.

Fr. Jeremy has been the Pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Parish since 2013. He was born and raised in Ottawa, Il, and graduated from the University of Notre Dame before moving to Chicago and meeting the Vincentians. He was ordained here at St. Vincent's in 2010 and served as assistant pastor in the Vincentian parish in Patterson, CA before returning to Chicago. On his day off, Fr. Jeremy enjoys binge-watching the latest from Netflix. Luke 23:35-43 GOSPEL REFLECTION JOHN 2:13-25

In this passage, Jesus cleanses the temple of trade and exchange. This act was a very important moment because He claimed authority of His house and gave the indication of His connection with the Father.

“Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!”

When the Jews ask Jesus, “What sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this,” he says, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days,” referring to his crucifixion and resurrection.

This entire passage is so crucial in fulfilling the prophecy but it is also monumental because it shaped how people congregated in the temple. It affects us even today. We know to respect and have “zeal” for the church and God’s home. It is a reminder for us to keep in mind that we are in God’s presence when we enter his temple and we must be humble, and meek.

As we try to dissect the literal meaning of Jesus’ actions, I also want to point out the significance of it in our lives and how we can use a Damita Mendez similar method to better ourselves. Senior There are times when we need the tables of our life overturned.

“He scattered the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables.” At that moment, Jesus changed business as usual in the temple. He turned the tables and started a new way for people to come together and worship His Father.

It’s just so easy to fall into the trap of business as usual. Business as usual is born of forgetfulness. We forget that we really are the temple of God’s presence. We forget that all of creation is the residence of God. We forget that in whatever direction we might turn, there is the face of God gazing upon us. And as soon as we forget those things about ourselves, each other, or the world, life becomes business as usual.

In order for us to avoid business as usual, we need to remember God and give it all to Him. Turn your tables, don’t forget Him, or it’s business as usual. Luke 23:35-43 WHO'S IN THE PEWS

I started learning how to make earrings over winter break. I make them out of polymer clay and like to give them to my friends and family.

Alex Oliveros - Sophomore

I love to draw comics. I’ve been doing it ever since fifth grade, starting it because I was bored in daycare on Halloween. It’s pretty much the reason I chose my ma- jor because I love storytelling. I’m currently drawing my own version of Avengers: Endgame.

COMMUNION PROCESSIONAL – Bread of Life from Heaven

Pan de vida eterna, nos das tu cuerpo y sangre. Hasta que vuelvas tú, Señor, comemos en tu amor.

Bread of life from heaven, your blood and body given, we eat this bread and drink this cup until you come again.

Seek not the food that will pass away; set your hearts on the food that endures. Come, learn the true and the living way, that the fullness of life may be yours.

Dwell in the One who now dwells in you; make your home in the life-giving Word. Know only Christ, Holy One of God, and believe in the truth you have heard.

Take in the light that will never dim, taste the life that is stronger than death. Live in the One who will come and then raise you up at the last with the blest.

Text: Based on John 6; adapt. by Susan R. Briehl; Spanish by Jaime Cortez. Tune: Argentine melody; adapt. And verses by Marty Haugen. © 2001, GIA Publications, Inc.
