Safe Environment

Safe Environment Training FAQs

Who needs to complete Safe Environment Training: All clergy, employees, volunteers and parents participating in ministry or volun- teering at the school are required to do an annual safe environment training.

This is my first time volunteering. What do I do? If you are new to ministry, volunteers must create a safe environment account at https:// phoenix.cmgconnect.org, complete the online application, Foundation training (currently done on-line), background check, face-to-face interview, and reference check before becoming active in ministry.

I have previously completed the Foundation training and have remained current with my annual renewal training. What do I do? If you have previously taken a Foundation course and have renewed your training annually, you are required to complete an annual renewal each safe environment year (July 1—June 30). The grace period for lay volunteers to accomplish the renewal training is July 1—December 31. Log into your CMG Connect safe environment training account at https://phoenix.cmgconnect.org and look for the current year’s curriculum box and complete the training.

I did a Foundation course but haven’t done a renewal training for at least a year. What do I do? If you completed a Foundation training in 2018 or earlier and DID NOT complete the 2019 renewal training, you need to complete the ONLINE Foundation course which includes the required online application and background check along with the training videos. Please contact the parish safe environment coordinator to obtain information on how to access the CMGConnect system.

I am a winter resident/visitor returning and want to serve while in Arizona. What do I do? The CMG Connect system is online so you can access your file from anywhere if you have your username and password. If you have kept current with your training renewals, log in and do the 2020 renewal prior to December 31st. If you have NOT remained current with your training, contact the Safe Environment coordinator for assistance.

Reasons to contact your parish safe environment coordinator: • You don’t remember your log in information and/or password. • You tried logging in and the system gives an invalid username/password message or error message. • You need to assistance to complete your training. • You want to become a safe environment training facilitator.

For more information or for safe environment assistance, please contact Ginnie Weingartner at 480-874-3751 or e-mail at [email protected]. Discipleship Weekly Page 4 Prepare Yourself for Next Sunday’s Mass

October 11, 2020 Twenty-Eighth Sunday In Ordinary Time First Reading: Isa 25: 6 - 10a Responsorial Psalm: 23: 1 - 3a, 3b - 4, 5, 6 “I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.” Second Reading: Phil 4: 12 - 14, 19 - 20 Gospel: Matt 22: 1 - 14

In today’s parable, Jesus likens the kingdom of God to a wedding feast. In what ways do you think this might be an apt description of heaven?

Going Deeper to Understand the Gospel The Prophet Isaiah

In today’s parable a king issues an “Go out, into the main invitation to come to the wedding feast for his roads and invite whomever son. After those initially invited refuse, he you find.” sends his servants out “into the main roads” telling them “invite to the feast whomever you find.” The invitation to be part of the kingdom of God is not reserved for a select group but is a blanket invitation to all people. Despite the generosity of the invitation, there are some things we must do as invited guests. The most important one seems to be to simply to show up. But after that we must also come clothed To the Feast “in a wedding garment,” as today’s gospel tells us. Multiple meanings could be deduced about what this wedding garment might symbolize. One could be that if we are invited to the greatest feast of all, we can’t just wander in because the door was open; we must be ready to truly enter into the celebration. Gifts Given to Share

My oldest two children took piano lessons when then were younger. In fact, it was because my oldest wanted to learn to play so badly that we purchased a piano. He would use it for practice during his few years of lessons, and then my daughter took up the instrument. After a few years of les- sons for each, restlessness set in and a type of indifference took over. The lessons and the practicing came to an end.

My youngest had not expressed much interest in piano when he was younger. Then when he was a teenager, he Monday - Friday 7:00 am to 6:00 pm asked for lessons. He began to play and now he plays even Saturday 7:00 am to 4:00 pm for fun and to relax. When his siblings try to play, they are stuck with the truth that those days are gone and since they No Adoration during weekday Mass gave it up years ago, they can no longer really play. In or on Sunday many ways, they were given a gift, but since they did not use and cultivate it, they lost it. Please make sure to practice social distancing and wear a mask while in God gives us gifts every day and we too often act like those Adoration. gifts will simply always be there.
