7 miles / 11.25km climbing about 500ft / 152m. Parking at the Great Barn, which is the first one as you arrive in Rivington, we start our walk heading for the Lower Rivington reservoir but head north to cross between the Upper and Lower reservoirs and continue along the Upper. We still head north but now we are following the Reservoir. We begin to climb gradually towards Healy Nab but, turning right through a wood which is quite undulating and muddy in places, we head back towards the reservoir. At the end of the wood we follow the road to take us around to the other side of the reservoir. We follow tracks to take us round and back along Upper Rivington Reservoir. At the end we climb up a road to reach . We follow the track alongside the reservoir, where we have excellent views towards the West Coast, then we follow further tracks and field paths back to Rivington in time for refreshments before heading for home. It will be muddy on the day but then it wouldn’t be one of my walks without mud would it? As usual I have booked the weather. Have a Nice Day!

Sallows and Orrest Head with Graham Hogg

Grade A Distance 10.5 miles 16.9 km Climbing 1969ft / 600m . Our start point for the walk today will be the village of Ings on the main A591. We make our way to Hugill Hall before descending into the Kentmere valley at Browfoot. The route now proceeds through the Kentmere Hall Plantation, alongside the tarn and eventually passing Kentmere Hall itself. A steady climb to the summit of the Garburn Pass lies ahead and from here we make for the top of Sallows (1693ft / 516m), our highest point of the day. A short traverse is made to Sour Howes (1585ft / 483m) before descending to join the Dubbs Road, which we follow until reaching Moorhowe Road. From here we continue to Orrest Head, a superb vantage point for viewing Windermere. It’s downhill all the way (honest !) to Windermere Railway Station where we await the coaches.

Dales Way to Windermere with Colin Hunt Grade B+ Distance 10 miles / 16km Climbing 1100ft / 335m

Today’s walk is on the Dales Way from Burneside to Bowness-on-Windermere (where the coach is parking). From the A591 we go to Burneside to join the Dales Way, then on to Bowston, Cowan Head and Staveley. We keep with the Dales Way to GR 427971. At this point we will decide which way to go depending on where the coaches are going to be parked.

Plumgarths with Dorothy Shackleton Grade B Distance 9 miles / 14.5km Climbing: undulating

This is a longer walk than usual for the time of year. We are being picked up in Staveley after the coaches leave Windermere. Wilf’s Caff will be open until 5.00pm plus a “Beer Hall” next door until 6.00pm. We alight from the coaches at a bus stop and toilets. We follow the Dales Way to Burneside and cross the railway by the station going left across Ellergreen Park to Hollins Lane then cross the A591 with more field paths to Plumgarths. We walk along the B5284 for a short distance: this is a busy road and we will need to take care. More field paths take us to Bank End, then Moss Side and so to Ratherheath Lane. Pleasant footpaths through Rather Heath bring us to Ashes Lane and onto a good track over moorland to reach Ashes. We go left here to cross Crook Road and onto a tarmac path which rises gently to New Hall Farm. Right here and we follow the Dales Way all the way back to Staveley and refreshments.

Dales Way with Bill Manning Grade C Distance 6 miles / 9.5km Climbing 500ft / 152m

Our walk today starts from the village of Staveley. Leaving by the Crook Road we cross the bridge over the by-pass then take a right turn on to the Dalesway path up to Field Close. We have a climb here through farmland before descending to New Hall Farm and continuing the walk along a tarmac lane for about a mile. Leaving the lane we cross through moorland fields passing through Outrun Nook and Hag End. Still more moorland field paths take us through Pinethwaite and Heaththwaite. We are now on the outskirts of Windermere and finish our walk by the railway station where the coaches will pick us up.
