Floyd Mayweather, Andre Berto And FLOYD MAYWEATHER, ANDRE BERTO AND "HIGH STAKES" UNDERCARD FIGHTERS MAKE MGM GRAND ARRIVALS IN LAS VEGAS TO OFFICIALLY KICK-OFF FIGHT WEEK LAS VEGAS (Sept. 8, 2015) - The countdown to "HIGH STAKES: Floyd "Money" Mayweather vs. Andre Berto" continued Tuesday afternoon as Floyd Mayweather and Andre Berto made their Grand Arrivals at MGM Grand in Las Vegas before their fight this Saturday, Sept. 12 live on SHOWTIME PPV® (8 p.m. E/5 p.m. PT) from the MGM Grand Garden Arena. In what is expected to be the final fight of his illustrious 19-year career, boxing superstar and pound-for- pound king Mayweather (48-0, 26 KOs) will put his undefeated record and WBC and WBA Welterweight World Championships on the line against power-punching, two-time welterweight world champion Berto (30- 3, 23 KOs). Also making their Grand Arrivals Tuesday were the six other talented fighters who will compete on the four- fight pay-per-view telecast: Roman "Rocky" Martinez, Orlando "Siri" Salido, Badou Jack "The Ripper", "Saint" George Groves, Jhonny Gonzalez and Jonathan "Polvo" Oquendo. In world title fights, Martinez (29-2-2, 17 KOs) will risk his WBO Junior Lightweight title in a rematch against the boxer he dethroned, four-time world champion Salido (42-13-2, 29 KOs), and Jack (19-1-1, 12 KOs) will make the first defense of his WBC Super Middleweight World title against mandatory challenger Groves (21- 2, 16 KOs). Opening the telecast will be a 10-round junior lightweight showdown between former three-time world champion and Mexican power-puncher Gonzalez (58-9, 49 KOs) against Puerto Rico's Oquendo (25-4, 16 KOs). Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by Mayweather Promotions LLC., are priced at $1,500, $1,000, $750, $500, $300 and $150 and are on sale now. Tickets are limited to eight (8) per household for all ticket prices except the $150 ticket category, which is limited to four (4) per household. "I don't overlook anyone, he's a tough competitor, and we will just have to see what happens on Saturday. "My ultimate goal is that we can find another Floyd Mayweather. When I turned professional I was a teenager and the MGM was Mike Tyson's building. I'm just blessed and I feel like I was dealt a royal flush. For a few years now the AIBA which has responsibility for administrating International “amateur” boxing-but let’s not kid ourselves the Olympics Games are no longer for amateurs-have too long been focusing on making money rather than developing the sport. For a few years they have through the WSB and other initiatives helped make the transition from AIBA to professional boxing easier for elite boxers. However they have failed to tackle the quality of judging and refereeing and have failed to put in place and to police internal controls leaving themselves open to allegations of mismanagement and profligacy taking the organisation to the edge of bankruptcy. The criticism over their handling of boxing at the Rio Olympics had already put them under the IOC spotlight and then they went and shot themselves in the foot over the appointment of an interim President . They selected a man who has been sanctioned by the United States Treasury Department for alleged links to a major “transnational criminal organisation”. I can almost imagine the conversation “We need an interim President let’s appoint Gafur Rakhimov” with one voice saying “ isn’t he sanctioned by the United States Treasury Department for alleged link to a major “transnational criminal organisation”. “Yes sounds just the man for the job”! A ban from the Olympics would be a huge blow for boxing’s prestige but it is more difficult to decide whether it would have any repercussions for professional boxing.

    Pacquiao – Mayweather to go to mediation tomorrow According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, the saga between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather will take another turn on Tuesday as the sides will head to mediation in Santa Monica, California. “We’re going into mediation,” Top Rank chairman Bob Arum, Pacquiao’s promoter, told ESPN.com. “This guy (mediator, Daniel Weinstein) was successful resolving our nutty problem before and hopefully he can be successful this time. He’s a guy who is a big fight fan and loves the sport, and I found him last time to be a delight to deal with. Everybody did.” At the time of the previous mediation, the companies had several ongoing lawsuits, including the one at the center of the bad blood: ownership of the promotional rights to Pacquiao, who had signed contracts with both companies before eventually pledging his loyalty to Top Rank. When the disputes were settled in June 2007, Arum and Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer both credited Weinstein’s steady hand for getting them to reach an accord. Under the global settlement, Top Rank retained Pacquiao’s promotional rights with Golden Boy receiving a percentage of Top Rank’s profit from his future bouts. The hope is that Weinstein can once again help the sides see their way through what has become an increasingly nasty battle in an effort to finalize the bout between welterweight titlist Pacquiao and Mayweather, the two best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, in a fight many believe will break the pay-per- view record of 2.44 million buys.

Opinion of the Canadian Boxing Community: an Online Poll Philip Dickinson* and Philip Rempel Abstract Background: In 2013, the Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA) introduced a rule banning headgear for male-senior open class boxers during competition. The AIBA has defended the rule change as motivated by safety and supported by internal unpublished studies. As a result, in 2018, the AIBA plans to universally prohibit headgear in competition: for all competitors (male and female), all ages and all levels. Within Canada, this ruling has generated controversy in the boxing community, yet there has been no overall measure of opinion. Methods: To address this, we instituted a voluntary, anonymous, online open-access poll to allow members of the boxing community to express their stance on headgear use in competition. Results: In total, 636 responses were received. A total of 71.5 % of Canadian respondents believed headgear should be mandatory at all levels. Only 5.8 % agreed that headgear should be prohibited, as planned for 2018. Estimating results on a representative breakdown of boxing membership in Canada, a similar pattern emerged, whereby 68.2 % concurred with mandatory headgear while only 4.95 % supported its prohibition. Parents of boxers were almost unanimously against banning headgear, stating they would change sports as a result. Similarly, only 1.7 % of women believed headgear should be prohibited. Conclusions: The consensus of the Canadian boxing community largely opposes the rule changes that the AIBA has implemented.
