Travelling to/from Arlanda Airport

There are three main choices for traveling to and from Arlanda Airport. The high‐speed travels directly to Central Station and is a good choice for many travelers who plan to take public transportation once they reach the city. For groups of two or more, a taxi can be a convenient and economical option. (Though also see Arlanda Express summer prices, below). The Airport bus is the most economical option and goes to City Terminal / Central Station.

Arlanda Express • Duration: 20 minutes (departs approximately every 15min) • Cost: Adult single 260 SEK, (with return ticket, 490 SEK). • Summer prices: 2 adults for 280 SEK, 3 for 380 SEK, 4 for 480 SEK. • Where to buy: at the information counter in the arrival terminal or from automated machines on the train platform itself. (Tickets purchased on the train require paying an additional 100 SEK surcharge.) • Website: https://www.arlandaexpress.com/

Taxi There are several taxi companies operating around the city. Most offer fixed fares between the city and Arlanda Airport that are much better than the meter rate.

WARNING: Be sure to ask the driver for the fixed price to your destination before getting into the taxi. Some companies target foreign visitors and demand outrageous fares. It is the customer’s responsibility to check the price.

• Duration: 30‐45 minutes. Follow signs at arrivals to taxi stands outside. • Companies: It is recommended to choose one of the larger companies, such as Taxi 020, Taxi Stockholm, or Taxi Kurir (which tends to have slightly lower fixed prices from Arlanda). • Cost: approximately 520 SEK Arlanda – Stockholm (Taxi Kurir).

Airport Bus It is also possible to travel with the airport buses (). These arrive at the City Terminal (Cityterminalen), across the street from Central Station. • Duration: ~45 minutes. • Cost: Adult single 99 SEK. • Company: Flygbussarna • Website: http://www.flygbussarna.se/en

Traveling to/from other Stockholm Airports Public transportation links from other nearby airports (Bromma, Skavsta, Västerås) are more limited compared to Arlanda Airport. The best option is to take the Airport Bus (Flygbussarna), see the company website above. (Bromma is close to the city, and a taxi may also be an option.) VLVnT 2013 August 5‐7 Stockholm, Sweden

Public Transportation SL ( lokaltrafik) Website: http://sl.se/en/Visitor/

Central Station (where most visitors will arrive from the airport) and the social events are most easily reached using public transportation. All of the metros, buses, and trams within the city are part of the same network and inside the same zone (A).

Individual tickets, valid for one hour and including transfers between metros, buses, etc, can be purchased in metro stations ("T‐Bana" or "Tunnelbana") for 44 SEK at the ticket window. These tickets can be used on buses too, but note that buses do not sell any tickets on board.

SL Access Cards

If you plan to use the public transportation system more than a few times, it will be much more convenient to get an SL Access Card.

SL Access Cards can be purchased for 20 SEK at many places: at the information desk at Arlanda Airport, at the SL Service Center in Central Station, or many common newsagents (such as "Pressbyrån"). The cards are reusable, so you can save them for your next trip to Stockholm.

When you are getting your card, you decide how to use it. For visitors, the most common way is to use them as "travel cards" valid for unlimited rides within either 24 hours, 72 hours, or a 7‐day period. The prices are as follows:

* 24‐hr travel card 115 SEK (valid for 24 hours after first use) * 72‐hr travel card 230 SEK (valid for 72 hours after first use) * 7‐day travel card 300 SEK (valid until 4:30 AM the morning after the 7th day)

To go from Central Station to AlbaNova by Tunnelbana: Take the Red line from "T‐Centralen" in the direction of "Mörby Centrum". (Note that there is another Red line on the same track to "Ropsten" ... that is not the right one!). Get off the train at station "Tekniska Högskolan" and take the exit toward the front direction of the train "Odengatan" (exit from the station toward the right, "Körsbärsvägen").

To go from AlbaNova to Central Station or Stadshuset by Tunnelbana: Take the Red line from "Tekniska Högskolan" in the direction of "Fruängen". Get off at "TCentralen". Walk toward the exits toward the front direction of the train.

To go from AlbaNova to Vasa Museum by Bus: Take the Bus #44 from the bus stop just outside AlbaNova ("Ruddammen"). This is the beginning of the line, so it only goes in one direction, toward "Skansen". Get off the bus at stop "Nordiska museet / Vasamuseet".

More detailed instructions for getting to the social events will be provided on Monday and Tuesday at the workshop.
