Boards 2020 Inner Visions was one of the first surf brands from West Cornwall, with two legendary shops set up in the early 1970s in St Ives and Penzance. These hangouts were instrumental in the development of a local community and culture. Inner Visions promoted local designers and shapers, and also imported the latest boards and clothing from & USA. West Cornwall was a hotbed for locally shaped boards and international imports.

Inner Visions returned to West Cornwall in 2018 with the seed of an idea that home grown shapes, and world renowned custom imports could still be ridden in the UK. And we wanted a small role in trying to promote that in West Cornwall. Because if that goes away, the only thing standing in front of you and a new surfboard is a salesman, a consignment model from Thailand and an interest free credit facility.

Today we make Inner Visions custom surfboards in Cornwall crafted by Chris Diplock. We are also importing boards from Maurice Cole in France.

In the surfing world, Maurice Cole is a legendary surfboard shaper from Australia. With his positive view on life, he has worked for decades to gain his place among some of the best shapers in the world. In fact, he doesn’t just shape great boards for surfers – he shapes incredible boards for some of the top surfers in the world. Just a few of the world’s top surfers that have sought out boards from Cole include , Machado, Tom Curren, and . In the surfboard industry, Maurice Cole’s integrity, collaboration and innovation have made him a shaper that stands head and shoulders above many of the other surfboard shapers in the business.

Why can't we enjoy those beautiful designs too.

In 2019, we teamed up with our friend Sam Bleakley to produce the 3rd series of Brilliant Corners, which we subsequently passed on to the WSL for a global audience to enjoy. Sam has also been instrumental in designing and testing our Inner Visions Surfboards.

#yellowgoesfaster We just want beautiful surfboards and a connection to their creation Hogbin

The Board Pinched from a Gary "Kong" Elkerton Takayama template from 1992. The biggest and best surprise is that this is not your regular "point and shoot" mid- length. It is much more. The Hogbin is Performance egg with a curved outline influenced by design features from a rainbow spectrum of 1980s shortboards and 1990s longboards and the 1970s transition surfing of Wayne Lynch and Michael Peterson. A ‘recovery of style’ response to a twitchy shortboard to keep surfing smooth and effortless. The Hogbin can undergo profile and rocker tweaks for hollower and more powerful waves and offers a variety of fin set ups: a two plus one provides bite and drive, while a single fin is loose-turning and a thruster set up for control. If you want down the line speed why not try a quad set up or a bonzer for the ultimate in turbo charged section making. The Midnight Rambler by Sam Bleakley

From £1200 Stevie B The Stevie B A perfect all-round shortboard. Volume under chest and low entry rocker for high wave count. Limited rocker through the last 2/3 of the board to ensure it is easy to find and generate speed. Single into double concave with plenty of V out the back for good transition between rails. Refined rails and rounded pin for hold when you need it. In the 80s Steven Blewit was the local surf star for the current Inner Visions protagonists. He was the guy we would furtively snatch glances at whilst hanging on his every word… holding court discussing tail shapes or the amazing low tide bank he had just surfed. Stevie B died tragically in a car crash with too many waves left to surf. We named this board in his honour and in celebration of the local hero and the surf rats they inspire. The Steve B - This speedy, carving board is perfect for wave hungry groms and grown ups alike. The Hake

The Hake If there is one board every surfer must have in their quiver, it needs to be a fish of some sort. There are so many variations on the fish surfboard though, so you need to look into what you want out of your fish and what will suit your surfing style. For some, it is easier to interchange between different boards on any given surf, so a variety of fish’s might be the go. Others just simply need something to spread out their quiver and give them something fun to ride when the waves are not quite appealing for their standard shorty. For the most part, there are 3 common elements of a fish design that apply to the majority of the boards you see out there. Short, wide and thick. This gives you plenty of paddle power, planning ability, and keeps you surfing tight in the pocket. These design elements make a fish the perfect board for those smaller, mushy days, as it’ll will allow you to get into weaker waves with ease, and float right through flat sections. However, these boards can be extremely fun and functional in good quality waves and waves of size.

The Stubby from £750 Maurice Cole Surfboards Maurice Cole has been at the forefront of surfboard design since 1990 when his revolutionary reverse vee bottom shape propelled Tom Curren to a world title. Since then, Maurice has continuously pushed the envelope of design by always searching for more speed, more manoeuvrability and increased longevity. SWAT tails, full length crisp rails, deep concaves, eco builds, and the importance of choice of stringer are all areas where Maurice Cole continues to push surfboard design forward. Maurice never sleeps when it comes to building a better surfboard. The Maurice has shaped for include Curren, Slater, Machado, Burrow, Andino.

All Maurice Cole designs are available to UK surfers through Inner Visions

Starting Prices are £595 The Shiva-the allrounder

Maurice Cole designed his new Shiva as a collaboration project with Roark to create a rangy travel board that performed in a wide variety of conditions....and moods. The MC Shiva allows surfers to dial in performance and personality of the board to suit conditions perfectly. MC Shiva claims surf range of 2-8ft surf (mainland size scale). The Shiva is very easy to paddle and catch waves with. The flat rocker and hybrid outline make surfing easy and productive with high wave count. Once up and riding, this board has a very confident feel and is super fast From £595 and drivey down the line. The crisp rail edge it tucked well underneath the board rail apex, combining incredible speed and drive, with manoeuvrability and looseness. This same edge gives surfers noticeable hold on steep walls and engages more quickly than rounded rails giving surfers an added level of confidence in powerful surf condition

The 4+1 fin set up and getting the placements correct is a math equation nightmare but Maurice nailed it with excellent performance in all modes. The ability to shift gears into all these different fin configurations gives you the ability to dial the Shiva's performance to the day's waves or your own surfing mood. Thruster for shortboard ripping, quad for barrels or flying down the line, 2+1 and single for going with the flow. Different waves (and moods) dictate different equipment. The Shiva allows you to shift gears and do it all on one board. Hybrid Surfboards
