No one was surprised when Lillian Brown entered Virginia Because of the support of Dr. McGuinn and other Virginia Union University (VUU) in 1953. Her father, Dr. Felix J. Le’s research was titled “Synthesis of Water-Stable-Material-Organic Framework at Room Temperature.” The mathematics, physics, and chemistry major will graduate in May of 2017 and hopes to pursue a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering.

Virginia Union Welcomes New Members to Board of Trustees Diane Leopold is president of . She is responsible for more than 12,000 miles of interstate natural gas pipelines in eight states, 22,000 miles of distribution pipelines, 1.3 million natural gas customers, and one of the largest natural gas storage systems in the . Since joining Dominion in 1995, she has held leadership roles including operations, project management, business planning, commercial and financial management in several business units. She graduated from the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical and electrical engineering. She received a master’s degree in electrical engineering in 1993 from George Washington University and an MBA in 1998 from Virginia Commonwealth University.

William A. Royall, Jr. is the founder and former chairman of Royall & Company, the leading research-driven and technology- enabled direct marketing service to traditional, nonprofit colleges and universities. Royall & Company was acquired by The Advisory Board Company in January of 2015. Mr. Royall is president of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Board of Trustees and campaign co-chair of the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Institute of Contemporary Arts. He also served on the VCU Board of Visitors from 2011 to 2015, serving as vice-rector from 2013 to 2015. Mr. Royall served on the George Mason University Board of Trustees from 1978 through 1986. An alumnus of Virginia Commonwealth University, Mr. Royall was inducted into the Greater Richmond Hall of Fame in 2014.

Dr. Theron Williams has been pastor of the Mt. Carmel Church of Indianapolis, Indiana for more than 29 years. Under his leadership, the church has grown from less than 200 members to more than 3,000 members. He has led the church to complete three major building programs and an extensive facility renovation program. Mt. Carmel’s Christian Education Ministry includes the Mt. Carmel Christian Academy, serving kindergarten through sixth grade. The pastor’s emphasis on developing young people for Christ influenced the establishment of a power youth ministry, which has touched the lives of hundreds of young people in the community. Dr. Williams earned Bachelor of Arts and Master of Divinity degrees from Virginia Union University. He received his Doctor of Ministry degree from The Theological Seminary.

She aspires to a career as an on-air television or radio personality.

Miss Virginia Union University LaRae Gilliard is a senior religious studies major from New Haven, Connecticut. She has served Virginia Union as a Resident Assistant, a Young Life Volunteer Leader, a member of the VUU Rah Rahs, and a member of the VUU Choir. Following graduation in May of 2017, she plans on attending graduate school at Georgetown University, or pursuing a dual degree with Virginia Commonwealth University and Virginia Union’s Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology.

Mr. Virginia Union University Alphonso Ross is a senior criminal justice major from the Bronx, New York. During his tenure at Virginia Union, he has been active as vice president of the VUU Pre-Law Society, treasurer of the VUU NAACP chapter, a student orientation leader, a member of the pre-alumni council and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He was also selected as Mr. Huntley Hall, and Mr. Junior. He is currently applying to law schools in Washington, D.C. and plans to become a criminal defense attorney.
