Professional Biography

Scholarly Expertise & Research Foci I am a social and behavioral scientist who examines substance use behaviors and related factors, with specific training and expertise in use, alcohol-induced impairment, and intoxication. My research spans a variety of content areas associated with the assessment and measurement alcohol-related behaviors, including but not limited to, impaired driving, intoxication, and protective behavioral strategies to minimize intoxication. I also investigate alcohol-related policies and practices, such as selling alcohol at collegiate sporting events and marketing alcohol on digital platforms.

Academic Qualifications  Published 140 peer-reviewed journal articles (as of 3/1/21). a. The majority (65%) examine substance use behaviors and related consequences, or factors contributing to substance use. b. h-index: 31; i10-index: 68; total citations: 3,488 (Google Scholar as of 3/1/21).

 Research examining alcohol-related behavior and alcohol-impaired driving countermeasures previously funded by entities such as the American Automobile Association (AAA) Foundation for Traffic Safety and the National Institute on and .

Leading Others 2020-2021  A four-month (22 half days) cohort style competency-based program, offered through the Division of Human Resources and Organizational Effectiveness, intended to enhance those who lead groups and transition persons from being an individual performer to leading a group of people. Competencies include adapting interpersonal style and communication; valuing differences; ethics, rules, regulations, and SAPS; people management and development; team development; conflict management; financial management; project and change management.

Gallup’s Leading High Performance Teams (Great Manager Program) 2019  A two-day workshop with the goals of creating “sustainable management strategies for teams to achieve high performance” and gaining “actionable insights into your own strengths to help individualize your management approach”.
