Track Athlete of the Week Field Athlete of the Week Rocky Mountain Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Men’s Week 7 Release | February 25, 2015 Primary Contact: Kaleb Center, Director of Media Relations • E-mail: [email protected] • Secondary Contact: Laila Wani • E-mail: [email protected] Track Athlete of the Week Field Athlete of the Week Michael Warburton Zach Baxter MSU Denver Adams State Senior, 6-0, Mid-Distance Junior, 6-4, 230, Throws Parker, Colo./Ponderosa HS Golden, Colo./Northridge HS Michael Warburton ran two provisional NCAA Zach Baxter took first place in the shot put at the qualifying times over the weekend at the Joe Davies Joe Davies Open in Golden, Colorado. He threw for Open, first as a member of the distance medley relay a personal record of 17.27m. Baxter is now ranked team, and second in the 800 meters. He helped the seventh in the nation for shot put. DMR to the 14th-fastest time in Division II this sea- son, a 9:55.70 converted time. On Saturday in the 800 meters, he won the race in a field of 22 runners in 1:55.51, converting to 1:52.19 for the 18th-fastest time in the country. COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Adams State is picked to win the RMAC in both Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field for the 2014-15 season. On the men’s side, the Grizzlies have won the last three conference titles in a row and five of their last six. ASU features three presason all-con- ference perfomers including Kevin Batt, who was selected as the RMAC Preseason Men’s Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year. In Women’s Indoor Track & Field, Adams State will be looking for their 14th RMAC title in a row. ASU has three athletes on the Preseason team. New Mexico Highlands’ Salcia Slack is picked as the Preseason Athlete of the Year. Western State will host the RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on February 27-28 in Gunnison, Colorado.     Year of the Vault: Three Vaulters Among National Athletes of the Week Winners Courtesy: Dennis Young, USTFCCCA April 14, 2015 NEW ORLEANS—There have been ninety­five National Athlete of the Week Awards handed out by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) in 2015; fourteen of them have gone to pole vaulters. The three most recent winners–Sandi Morris of Arkansas, Luke Winder of North Central (Ill.), and Marissa Kalsey of Westminster–joined the club on Tuesday. Morris broke the Division I vault record, while Winder and Kalsey cleared all­time DIII top ten heights. The year of the vault continues. It would be more accurate to say that Morris and Winder renewed their memberships in the club, as it was the second award of the year for both. It was also a repeat award for Division II winners Salcia Slack of New Mexico Highlands and Lamar Hargrove of Tiffin, plus NJCAA DI women’s winner Chrisann Gordon of South Plains. Slack won her award with a score that made her the tenth highest­scoring heptathlete in collegiate history, regardless of division. Garrett Scantling of Georgia won the DI men’s award with a very similar feat: he’s now the ninth­ranked decathlete in college history. The other three winners were NJCAA male sprinters Antwon Smith of Western Texas (DI) and Brandon Gooden of Queensborough (DIII). Bryea Rhodes of Montgomery won the NJCAA DIII women’s award.
