2 New Jersey Makers Day 2018-2019 Annual Report EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Thank you for five years of New Jersey Makers Day support! We remain excited and inspired by so many libraries, schools and organizations showcasing and highlighting STEM education and the maker movement in communities across the state.

It is hard to imagine that when we started this journey just five years ago, New Jersey Makers Day events would, in 2019, impact tens of thousands of residents of all ages each year as they explore hands-on learning opportunities.

2018-2019 has been a banner year for New Jersey Makers Day. We are proud to have been named one of the New Jersey STEM Pathways STEM Collaborators of the Year for our partnership with the New Jersey State Library and Newark Museum on the Leap into Science education training initiative.

In addition, New Jersey Makers Day was officially recognized by the New Jersey State Legislature through a joint legislative proclamation, acknowledging the statewide impact of New Jersey Makers Day.

We are so proud of the accomplishments of this small-but- mighty non-profit, and we strive to continue each year to support and strengthen the successes of our participating site locations, from unique training opportunities and community support contests to a thriving mini-grants program and strategic partnerships.

New Jersey Makers Day 2018-2019 Annual Report 3 ENGAGEMENT

One of the major objectives of New Jersey Makers Day is to build a structure that gives organizations the skills, resources, support, and relationships necessary to offer valuable hands-on learning experiences. While the growth in the number of sites has leveled off, we continue to see tremendous growth in the quality of experiences offered at these sites.

For our 2019 New Jersey Makers Day, we had 303 participating locations spread across 20 counties. These locations hosted an estimated 2,755 individual programs, with a total estimated attendance of 83,290.

MINI GRANTS In 2019, New Jersey Makers Day provided a total of $5,400 in grant funding to 12 grantees. This funding allowed grantees to expand the capabilities of their organizations and offer new hands-on learning experiences for attendees.

CONTINUING EDUCATION One of the important ways that New Jersey Makers Day continues to support participating locations is by providing opportunities for these organizations to broaden their skills through professional development opportunities. In 2019, New Jersey Makers Day provided 7 such CE opportunities at various locations throughout the state.

SUPPORT New Jersey Makers Day would not be possible without generous support from our sponsors. The funding provided by these organizations allow New Jersey Makers Day to provide participating locations with support, continuing education, and mini grants to enhance STEM and hands-on learning experiences in communities all over the state of New Jersey.

PSEG Foundation, $10,000 (Grant). The PSEG Foundation provides support with impact grants in the areas of sustainable neighborhoods, safety and STEM education. The PSEG Foundation has been a supporter of New Jersey Makers Day since 2016.

New Jersey State Library, $2,000 (Sponsorship). The New Jersey State Library, an affiliate of Thomas Edison State University, is led by State Librarian Mary L. Chute and provides services for NJ libraries, the state legislature and government employees, Thomas Edison State University staff and students, and registered borrowers. The New Jersey State Library has been a supporter of New Jersey Makers Day since 2017.
