MEETING OF DÚN LAOGHAIRE-RATHDOWN COUNTY COUNCIL

11TH MARCH 2013

SPECIAL AMENITY AREA ORDERS

Question: Councillor S. Fitzpatrick

“To ask the Manager for a list of proposed Special Amenity Area Orders and the timetable for the adoption in each case?”

Reply:

The current Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Development Plan contains two Specific Local Objectives relating to Special Amenity Area Orders as follows;

Map 7 SLO 78 – To prepare a Special Amenity Area Order for Hill, Hill and Roches/Mullins Hill.

Map 13 SLO 79 – To investigate and consider the feasibility of designating the Hill area, to the north of Murphy’s Lane, as an area of Special Amenity Area Order.

In relation to , Dalkey Hill and Roches Hill/Mullins Hill, no Special Amenity Area Order in accordance with section 202 of the Planning and Development Act 2000 – 2010 (as amended) has been prepared to date. A sizable amount of the area of Killiney Hill, Dalkey Hill and Roches/Mullins Hill is owned by the Council. The Parks Department have published the draft Roche’s Hill Management Plan 2013-2017 in October 2012. The draft Management Plan sets out specific management proposals for Roche’s Hill and it is intended to be similar to any objectives that would be contained in a Special Amenity Area Order. A report will issue shortly outlining what elements in the Management Plan are to be adopted. It is anticipated that a similar public consultation will take place for Killiney Hill/Dalkey Hill in 2014.

In relation to the Carrickgollogan Hill area to the North of Murphystown Lane, the Council have not to date investigated the feasibility of designating this area as an area of Special Amenity Area Order. This area is owned by Coillte and is identified by the Mountains Partnership as a recreation area.
