Prior to going to the major league Spring training his brother Nicholas trained him in their parents' garage with homemade implements. “We used bricks for weights, a homemade sawhorse for dips and a pipe for chins-ups. The CBL consist of Redlands, Redlands East Valley, Yucaipa, AB Miller, Eisenhower and now Cajon. The San Andreas League has been part of Cajon’s history since the beginning. The SAL has been a league that has truly consisted of a wide range of schools throughout its 40 year history. It is an iconic league that has had teams from all over the Inland Empire. The league started in 1970 with teams such as Bloomington, Norco and Hemet; and now consists of teams such as Rialto, San Gorgonio, and Carter. Cajon High School was the only school to always remain in the San Andres League. We were there from the start and have played teams from the heart of the Inland Empire as well as teams from the High Desert and Low Desert, Barstow to Palm Springs. The pages that follow list all the schools that were once a part of the San Andreas League. Cajon won its first league tle in 1976 and did not win another one unl 21 years later, in 1997. Following that, Cajon began to become an instrumental influence in the sport of baseball by winning several more league tles in 2004, 2005, 2007, and 2008. The SAL has always been home for the Cajon Cowboys but as we advent into a new league, new tradion, and the unknown, the Cowboys will always compete, adapt, improvise, and overcome any obstacles in order to prevail. Going into the CBL, won’t be easy but it is the best me for Cajon as we are returning seven starters from last season plus four starng pitchers. And out of those ten players, six will be part of the varsity program for three seasons. Therefore, the experience is at hand. With the likes of Jusn Hendricks (.293), Jordan Pollard (.224), Mike Quinonez (.311), Kurs Kloke (.338), and Cody Swanson (.259), the Cowboys should compete in the CBL. Also returning is starng shortstop Branden Becker (.291), ouielder, Andrew Rios (.381), pitchers Andy Hammond (2-1-6; 2.37era), Noah Jones (3-3; 1.48era), and Ma Acosta (4-1; 2.35era). Those whom are making their first appearance on the varsity squad are juniors: Angel Becerra, Andrew Estrada, Shawn Neal, and Kyle Schepper; sophomores: Zachary Grande and Taylor Sims. The predicon for the crown of the CBL has Redlands as the favorite but Redlands East Valley and Yucaipa are consistently good and will be again, while Cajon is a sleeper. The CBL consist of a freshman program but Cajon will only have a junior varsity team. Therefore, having a large group of freshman on the JV team will be a challenge facing those with a great deal more sophomores and juniors. However, with the likes of returners: Tony Nunez, Logan Gopperton, Andrew Pina, Jesse Shafer, Jacob Lopez, Mario Espinoza, Jacob Gardner, Teddy Albert, and newcomers: Russell Montana, Gabriel Gordillo, Eric Nunez, Jusn Henry, Gabriel Marn, John Maroda, Mikael Bunse, Anthony Lozano, Mason Corneliussen, Gilbert Abarca, Ryan Bunse, and Brandon Avila they will Act Big, Breathe Big, and Commit Big in order to succeed in the CBL and capture the tle. Mission Statement The Cajon High School Baseball Team’s mission is to achieve the highest level of success by having each member put the team first above all. Each player must display an outstanding work ethic; furthermore, each player must go above and beyond to make his contribuon to the team. Every player must exhibit a healthy atude to develop trust among its members. Cajon players will present themselves

  • A's News Clips, Wednesday, May 18, 2011
A’s News Clips, Wednesday, May 18, 2011 Oakland A's pound Los Angeles Angels 14-0 By Joe Stiglich, Oakland Tribune Mark Ellis has endured a season-long struggle with the bat. Then how to explain a night such as Tuesday? It all came so easily for Ellis and his A's teammates in a 14-0 stomping of the Los Angeles Angels. The run total was a season high, as was their 15 hits. The A's swept the two-game series and moved into a first-place tie with the Texas Rangers in the American League West. It's the first time the A's have occupied first since June 3 last season, when they also were deadlocked with Texas. Leading the hit parade was Ellis, the second baseman who has shined defensively but has been the invisible man in the batter's box. Sure, he collected three hits Sunday against the Chicago White Sox, but one was a bloop job and another was an infield single. And he did bring home Monday's winning run against the Angels with a fielder's-choice grounder. But he hit the ball with authority Tuesday, finishing 3 for 4 with a season-high four RBIs. That lifted his average from .194 to .210. Ellis was happiest to deliver with runners on base. "I really pride myself on doing good in that situation, and I haven't done that this year," he said. "It's nice to get a couple hits with guys in scoring position." Ellis smoked a run-scoring double off the left-field wall in the A's three-run second.

Participating Student: Alejandra Davila ‘19 Project Location: California, USA Participating Institution: Pomona College Project Dates: June-July 2018 Breaking Ceilings, Building Communities: A Young Women in Politics Summer Program Context: Women consistently vote in higher numbers than their male peers. Yet, the representation of women in the U.S. political system is abysmal. Even though a record-number of women were elected to office in the 2018 midterm elections, only 18.5% of executive branch employees and 23.4% of United States Congressmembers are womeni. Out of the twenty-three cabinet-level positions in the current administration, only five positionsii are held by women. Those numbers are even lower for women of color and queer women. Furthermore, the representation of women in politics decreases in low-income communities, such as my hometown of San Bernardino, CA. Only two of the seven seatsiii on the San Bernardino City Council are filled by women. Out of the six districts representing San Bernardino County in the State Assembly, only one is led by a woman. Project Purpose: The sexual harassment claims against Congressmen and Supreme Court Justices, the dismissal of female Senators’ opinions at judiciary hearings, and the objectification of female candidates in the media are constant reminders that the political arena continues to be a male-dominated space. The lack of representation of female politicians can be a discouraging factor for young girls and women interested in pursuing a career in politics. However, women’s inclusion in politics has direct benefits for women and society at large. The presence of female politicians has the potential to decrease discrimination and violence against women.

2016-21 Education Master Plan Your Future Starts Here! www.valleycollege.edu (909) 384-440 MESSAGE FROM COLLEGE LEADERSHIP i ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS ii TABLE OF CONTENTS iii LIST OF EXHIBITS iv v APPENDICIES vi PLAN OVERVIEW 1 CHAPTER I: PLANNING FRAMEWORK Intent of the Education Master Plan The San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC) Educational Master Plan (EMP) is a comprehensive document that establishes a clear direction for the College by envisioning the future of academics and student support under changing internal and external conditions. Quantitative and qualitative data indicators are analyzed to guide the planning process. Additionally, the EMP is directed by core values and goals within the College and by District-wide plans as well as the SBVC and San Bernardino Community College District (SBCCD) Strategic Plans. While the Educational Master Plan is intended to provide direction to SBVC over the next five years (2016-21), it is not a rigid script. It helps determine the institution’s current level of effectiveness and produces key goals leading to action and dialogue as the College moves toward the future. It is a living document that should be reviewed and updated regularly. Thus, the Education Master Plan is an evolving description of the College’s needs and, although past performance data can greatly inform future growth, emerging regional issues, as well as unforeseen events, can alter a community’s path. The EMP will provide guidance and support for the College’s emerging strategic initiatives and serve as a foundation for other College planning activities. Purpose of the Education Master Plan The main purpose of this Education Master Plan is as follow: Provide a framework within which the College can coordinate long-term goals in support of student learning.
