Q&A Session with Harry Finch- Tuesday 18th December 2018

Q.) What do you like best about playing ? A.) I actually preferred football when I was younger, but I was much better at cricket. Cricket is a great team sport and I get a lot of joy from my team winning.

Q.) What is your favourite bat? A.) When I was young I had a Malic, but then I had a Grey Nicholls Super Nova which I had a couple of years ago and really liked

Q.) What’s the most runs you have got in one innings and what team was it against? A.) I got 175 once. I was 17 and it was against Middlesex

Q.) Who’s the best person to bat with in the Sussex team? A.) Good question- is very good and I get on very well with him. Tom Hayes is also good.

Q.) What club do your play for? A.) Hastings. I lived in Hastings

Q.) What’s the best bowler you have played against? A.) Steven Finn is good and so is Muralitharan

Q.) Where do you enjoy playing cricket the most? A.) Australia is good fun and Sri Lanka is excellent. I haven’t been to India yet. I’m fortunate enough to be going to Cape Town in February 2019

Q.) What’s your favourite shot? A.) I like the pull shot….because I am short..lol!

Q.) Who was your favourite cricketer growing up? A.) I liked Ricky Ponting and also Luke Wright and Michael Yardey

Q.) What age did you start at Sussex? A.) I started playing with the Under 10’s

Q.) How many people have you got out in one over? A.) I think the most is 4 people, but I have never got a Hat-Trick and I don’t bowl anymore.

Q.) When did you first start to play cricket? A.) I was 2 or 3 years old. I was lucky as my family are into cricket. My dad use to bowl hockey balls at me in the back garden…lol…!

Q.) How did you get into the Sussex Team? A.) I played in the U14’s and U16’s so it was a natural progression and also I am a Sussex boy so that’s where I wanted to play

Q.) Can you bat yet since you were injured? A.) A little bit… not loads though. I start properly after Christmas

Q.) What happened when you got injured? A.) I chipped a bone in my ankle and I had to have 2 ligaments removed. I did it fielding, diving for the ball.

Q.) What school did you go to? A.) I went to St Richards in Bexhill and then I moved on to Eastbourne College for two years

Q.) What’s your best shot for scoring the most runs? A.) Probably a cover drive for me, but everyone is different.

Q.) Who’s the fastest in the nets? A.) Probably or

Q.) How fast are bowlers on average? A.) It’s around 95mph

Q.) How fast is your ? A.) I bowl at about 70/75 mph

Q.) How many 6’s have you scored in one game? A.) I hit 5 in a row once

Q.) How many bats do you have? A.) I probably have between 4 or 6 at any one time

Q.) How many bats do you get through in a season? A.) Roughly 5 or 6. Sometimes they break easily.

Q.) Who do you sit next to in the dressing room? A.) I sit between and .

Q.) What’s the best team you have come up against County wise? A.) Probably Surrey and Hampshire were very good this year

Q.) How many bats have you used altogether in your career to date? A.) I’m afraid I don’t keep count. Some cricketers have their bats numbered, but I don’t. I have probably had about 50 to 70 bats.

Q.) Who’s the comedian in the dressing room? A.) Michael Burgess and Luke Wright are both funny

Q.) Who have you batted with the most? A.) Probably Luke Wells

Q.) Have you ever played another sport at County level? A.) Yes- I played football for Sussex when I was younger, but I love all sport.

Q.) What’s your favourite fielding position? A.) For me probably 2nd slip or extra cover. Normally I prefer slip so I don’t have to run around too much!…lol…
