Prayers for the Nation Please see pages 03-05 for letters from Fr. Charles & Bishop Klusmeyer, as well as a link to the statement made by Presiding Bishop Michael Curry about current events. O God, you made us in your own image and redeemed us through Jesus your Son: Look with compassion on the whole human family; take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unite us in bonds of love; and work through our struggle and confusion to accomplish your purposes on earth; that, in your good time, all nations and races may serve you in harmony around your heavenly throne; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. 2 Message from Fr. Charles So hard to love in the midst of fury. So hard to intend to love when a warmed heart is not inside. To risk being seen as weak and as a fool when you steadfastly stand for softness and reason. To know your strength is in loving God and loving neighbor, even when it seems impossible. To have opinions while remaining understanding and respectful. To stand in an angry storm and not be consumed by it. To shine with integrity. To be the best American you can be. To be Christlike. 3 Message from Bishop Klusmeyer Dear Brothers and Sisters, Like many of you, I am aware and sit in shock of what has taken place in our National Capitol. I am beyond saddened by the sights coming over the internet…sights I have never seen in my life--nor did I ever imagine I would see in our country. For several months, we have heard from various sources about the need for a peaceful, orderly transfer of power after our Presidential election. No one could have imagined this is what our country would look like, two weeks before the Inauguration. I ask your prayers. I ask your prayers for our Congress, and the President of the United States. I ask your prayers for the President-elect. I ask your prayers for those who will work for the protection of our lawmakers, and those who work and live in Washington DC. I ask your prayers for this nation and that a spirit of respect and civility will reign. I ask your prayers for God’s Spirit of peace and love to transform the spirits of evil and harm. I ask your prayers for safety and law and order. I ask your hearts to join me as I pray: Lord God, in our prayers for our country, we remember especially the people who powerfully influence the life of society: Those who fashion our politics, Those who frame and administer our laws, Those who mold public opinion through social media, the press, radio and television, Those who write and speak what many read and hear. May all recognize their responsibility to you and to the nation; may people be influenced for what it good, not evil, for what is true, not false; for the glory of your Name. Amen. +WMK 4 Presiding Bishop Michael Curry - Call to Prayer for the Nation “The events at our Capitol today are deeply disturbing – we believe the actions of armed protestors represent a coup attempt. We are a democracy with longstanding institutional norms that must be honored, foremost among them following the processes laid out in the Constitution and federal statute to facilitate the peaceful transition of power. Today’s protesters pushed through police barricades and forced their way into Congressional chambers and the Capitol building and are now threatening the safety of lawmakers, their staff, and others who work in the Capitol complex. This threatens the integrity of our democracy, the national security of our nation, the continuity of government, and the lives and safety of our legislators, their staff, and all who work in the Capitol.” Full video can be found at https://episcopalchurch.org/ 5 Parish Prayer List “Almighty God, to whom our needs are known before we ask, help us to ask only what accords with your will; and those good things which we dare not, or in our blindness cannot ask, grant us for the sake of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” Betty, Chris, Robert, Joyce, Bracken, Margaret, Lynn, Verna, Ann, Jean, Adde, Karen, Terri, Sharon, Maureen, John, Brian, Lisa, Eva, Courtney, Eddie, Brenda, Ginger, Regina, Stephanie, Alma, Jeanie, Pam, the Mills-Dotson family, and Eric. Thus I have decided to just let them flow freely. Part of what comes to mind is this past year of 2020…a year few of us ever thought we would experience in our lifetime. The COVID pandemic changed the trajectory of any hopes, dreams, goals and intentions for the year. In exchange, many have experienced fear, anxiety, grief, loss, isolation and decreased supplies. What? No toilet paper? You have got to be kidding! And yet, hopefully there have been many lessons from experiencing the above ….at least that is true for me. First and foremost I have been reminded I am a survivor! Life has thrown curve balls before COVID! I learned early on in life the way to survive circumstances is to ask a question. What can I learn from this experience to help me grow.? God answers this question each time. And usually I get the same response….. “lean in and rely on me!’ After the first 2-3 weeks of the “shut down”, I realized the fear and anxiety I was feeling were not the way to cope. So I did what I have learned to do… I got down on my knees and prayed: Heavenly father, You are the great physician, healer, comforter and provider. I am so blessed! You supply all of my needs. Please protect, strengthen, and comfort all people who are working so hard to keep our people and communities alive and well. Comfort those who are ill and their families. Lead the scientists and “ologists” to develop a vaccine for this deadly disease! And please lead me to do my part! I “heard” a response…Lillian wear your mask, stay home as much as possible and continue to feed my people! I felt peace and calm. No more fear! And so, I have decided that in 2021, I will continue to “lean in and rely on God”! As I was reading today, I ran across 2 verses that have become part of my daily prayer for this year. This prayer will be said each day for all people! Spirit of God, you are compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. (Exodus 34:6) You made all of us to be compassionate, loving, kind, gracious, patient, and faithful. “Equip each of us to trust steadily in You, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly.” (1 Cor. 13:13) Amen Loose Plate Designated Offering 7 1st Sunday: Discretionary Fund 2nd Sunday: Operating Fund 3rd Sunday: Christmas Baskets 4th Sunday: Operating Fund 5th Sunday: Operating Fund January Birthdays 01…Gil Watkins 01…Hollie Mitchell 10…JW Spencer 13…Steve Hanley 13…Vickie Fouts 14…Terri Hash 14…Brenda Thacker 16…Avis West 20…Allan McVey 20…Diana Flenner 21…Maisie Duckworth 23…Alma Malone 30…Chris Kopelman January Anniversaries 23…Bruce & Sue Moss 8 Sock Drive YES, YES, YES, Socks are always needed!
