02 a Directory 2020 27-4-20 WORLDDIRECTORY BRIDGE FEDERATION 2020 WORLD BRIDGE FEDERATION DIRECTORY 2020 1999-2019 20 years of the World Bridge Federation as an International Federation recognised by the International Olympic Committee The purpose of the World Bridge Federation shall be: to promote, foster, promulgate and develop and govern the sport of Bridge internationally to support and encourage the development of youth bridge, in particular by encouraging and assisting NBOs in promoting bridge in schools, universities and other educational and youth organisations to be in the Olympic Movement, remaining affiliated with the International Olympic Committee (“IOC”) as a recognized International Federation (“IF”) in conformity with the requirements of the Olympic Charter and to contribute to the achievement of the goals set out in the Olympic Charter, in particular by way of spreading Olympism and Olympic education to federate national bridge organisations in all countries to devise methods and conduct competitions to award international or world championship titles to establish standard laws for its contests adopting recognised standards of fair-play and good ethics and supplementing these as may be required to support and encourage the promotion of positive sport ethics to dedicate its efforts to ensure that in bridge contests the spirit of fair play prevails to fight against unethical behaviour, manipulation of competitions and alterations of results in bridge to fight against doping in sport and to take measures the goal of which is to prevent endangering the health of bridge players The WBF endeavours to maintain friendly relations amongst its members and amongst Zonal Conferences. The WBF does not permit any political, religious, gender or racial discrimination or any violation of human rights amongst its members.     November 16-November 26, 2000 Birmingham, Alabama 74th Fall North American Bridge Championships Daily Bulletin Vol. 74, No. 7 Thursday, November 23, 2000 Editors: Henry Francis and Jody Latham Furious comeback wins Senior KO for Budd team The team captained by Richard Budd of Portland ME went into the final 16 boards with fierce deter- mination – they didn’t want to finish second again in the Senior Knockout Teams. They were 28 IMPs down, but they were confident they could turn the match around against the team captained by Richard Sternberg of West Palm Beach FL. And turn it around they did! They piled up 78 IMPs while holding their foes to only 9 to win the championship by 41 IMPs, 150-109. What made the victory all the more pleasing was the fact that they were beating the team that defeated them in the final in Boston last year. Playing with Budd were Robert Ryder, Caldwell NJ; William Hunter, Reading MA; Shome Mukherjee, Randolph MA; Richard De Martino, Riverside CT, and Pat McDevitt, Brookline MA. On the Sternberg team were Allan Cokin, Palm Beach FL; Bernie Chazen, Tamarac FL; Chuck Burger, West Bloomfield MI; Richard Reisig, Boynton Beach FL; Robert Lipsitz, Palm Harbor FL. The teams were not exactly the same as they were in Boston. Chuck Burger replaced Billy Eisenberg on the Sternberg team, and BUDD added DeMartino, a new member of the ACBL Board, and McDevitt. It was a tough, hard-fought match all the way. BUDD led, 17-13, after the first quarter, and increased the lead to six at the half, 55-49.

Landen was playing with Pratap Rajadhyaksha; their teammates were Dan Morse-Bobby Wolff and Adam Wildavsky-Doug Doub. With one round to go, three teams were closely bunched: Landen, Malcolm Brachman (Chris Compton, Mike Passell, Claudio Nunes, Fulvio Fantoni) and Nick Nickell (Richard Freeman, Jeff Meckstroth, Eric Rodwell, Bob Hamman, Paul Soloway). Brachman split their round – 1.5 to 1.5 – while Nickell got only 1 on the round. That put Landen on top with 33.14, followed by Richard Schwartz (Michael Becker, David Berkowitz, Larry Cohen, Zia Mahmood, Michael Rosenberg) with 31.12 and Nickell with 30.65. Landen and Rajadhyaksha claimed their second North American championship as a partnership; they won Open Pairs II at the 2000 Spring NABC in Cin- cinnati. Landen won the same event at the 1990 Spring NABC in Fort Worth.
