Monica Ramirez RETTERS ACADEMY OF DANCE FACULTY Monica Ramirez is a Los Angeles based, professional dancer from Yuma, Arizona. She began her dance training at the age of 7 with a full scholarship to Yuma’s most prestigious ballet companies (Yuma Ballet Academy). Monica excelled in her ballet academics but eventually ventured on to other styles of dance 6 years later. By her freshman year at Kofa High School, Ramirez trained daily in genres such as, jazz, modern, lyrical and hip hop. By the time she was 16, Monica began her official teaching career as a part time dance instructor at various studios within her community. Exactly one week after she graduated, Monica moved to Los Angeles with a part time job at The Disneyland Resort where she performed four to five times a week in parades. During this time, Monica also began instructing hip hop classes in Agoura Hills at Retters Academy of Dance. In the two years that followed, Monica took classes and trained at the famous Millennium Dance Complex as well as Debbie Reynolds Dance Studio in North Hollywood and awaited an agency audition. In 2009, after auditioning for Clear Talent Group, Monica received a phone call that changed her life forever. Within the same week of signing to CTG, she attended and booked her first professional dance audition (Ester Dean Ft. Chris Brown - “Drop It Low”). Since then, Monica Ramirez has worked with some of the world’s most renowned choreographers (Fatima Robinson. Laurianne Gibson. Tina Landon. Brian Freidman....) and artist alike (Chris Brown. Pitbull. Ke$ha. Rihanna. Drake. Flo Rida. Nicki Minaj. NeYo. and more.). Though she’s been featured as a dancer in countless television shows such as American Idol, Americas Got Talent, The XFactor, So You Think You Can Dance, The American Music Awards and The Grammys, to name a few, Monica also took to acting and landed her first lead role on the Hulu Original Series “East Los High” as “Yvonne” in 2014. In 2015, Monica signed to Bloc LA, and is represented by them today. She toured the world from 2015-2017 with Jason Derulo and accumulated many more credits along the way. She trained at “Scott Sedita Acting Studios” and has undergone vocal training with celebrity vocal coach, Nick Cooper. Other credits from 2009-2017: Jaimie Foxx. Keri Hilson. Jennifer Hudson. CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION This chapter consists of background of research, statement of problem, research objective and significance of research, and definition of key terms. 1.1 Background of Research Women stereotype is a view or assessment given to and through women. This view or assessment becomes identity of women usually as a differentiator to the other group, male. As it said by Beauvoir (24) “And the truth is that anyone can clearly see that humanity is split into two categories of individuals with manifestly different clothes, faces, bodies, smiles, movements, interests, and occupations; these differences are perhaps superficial; perhaps they are destined to disappear. What certain is that for the moment they exist in a strikingly obvious way”. As well as it is differences in identity between men and women then it is also affecting the characteristics and roles of each gender. In women stereotype, as women role, women are not considered to afford and need to interfere related to the community at large. It is because women are considered have only for housework job and role. This is also refers to the stereotype that women do not have the ability as well as men. It influences to the view toward women characteristic. Women are not as useful as men because they are just as a small part in community affairs. This causes unequal role for women. It becomes a barrier for women, particularly in the fields of education, employment and marriage. However a lot of works are done by women in various fields in society. It emerges from the desire to get the same rights as men.
