At Junior level we had well in excess of 800 players playing various pathway formats. In addition the Rep scene had plenty of opportunity starting with the Bulls Masters T20 Country Challenge in Mackay over the October long weekend, the Webb Shield and Plunkett Cup, various SQCC Carnivals which flowed onto North v South Games and ultimately Qld Country. We saw the return of the A-grade (Open) Grade T20 at Heritage Oval with a team from Lockyer also participating, in addition we added the combined BCD-grade T20 comp which grow out of last season’s Club review meetings On top of this we were involved in a number of activities during the season, including: The continued efforts of the Junior Sub-committee managing the junior pathway as well as the changing junior environment which is seeing increased player involvement – a tremendous by the effort A number of projects: o The return of cricket to Heritage Oval which improved as the season progressed and we expect further improvement across next season o The development of the Sports Park at Highfields which will not only benefit the Highfields-Railways Club, but be a benefit for all cricketers in the region o The addition of two new light poles at Heritage Oval, funding shared by the TCI, Bears Rugby & Bombers AFL o Ongoing involvement in the Charlton Sports complex project We continued hiring Green Options to help with the preseason preparation work of our turf wickets which helped us to get up & running at the season start Starting discussions on competition structure, grading, formats – something which is a lot more complex than 30 years ago, putting our head in the sand isn’t an option! In fear of forgetting people I apologize in advance but our season would not run without a lot of effort from many people: Our curators: Pat, Marcus, Laurie, Bob, Ross & Radar, Mick, the team at Uni and their band of helpers – a big thank you for all your efforts. The Toowoomba Regional Council team who not only maintained fields, but also provided tremendous support & help with a number of projects which benefit cricket The local media – Ben, Glen and the Chronicle team, the Kieran & the WIN News team, Tom & the Seven crew and Ian Reimers with his weekly cricket segment to name but a few Peter Davies for all his behind the scenes IT and Admin work – especially with MyCricket, our web site and points collection Keith Barton and Ivan Walls for their behind the scenes work Jason McWilliam and the Club delegates who make up the Competition Committee All those involved in helping pull the Rep season together, especially Troy, Shaun, Adam, Scruff , Rusty and the players for making themselves available. Thanks also to Rusty and Clayton for looking after the scoring etc and to the National Hotel for coming on Board to sponsor the Player of the Match Awards and provide lunches The sponsors & supporters of both Toowoomba Cricket and our Clubs – your help keeping participation costs down and providing equipment is most appreciated All the Club Volunteers – too many to name but every Club has a small group of people who make sure things happen so many can enjoy their cricket – a big thankyou to these people, take the opportunity to thank them Chris Howard’s team of men in black and white(maybe this should now be Blue & Black) who grow in numbers this season Future challenges and opportunities facing us over the coming seasons Continued development and recruitment of junior players, providing an effective pathway, so they are retained in the sport Maximising the opportunity for people to play the game, weather a social cricketer or a player aiming for higher representative honours – representative cricket is in need of fine tuning to make it attractive and affordable for players – this is starting to happen at a QC and QCCA level Is our current Club structure and grading system still relevant and sustainable in today’s environment – do we have a grading/relegation function via our 1-day comp? Grounds – with the HSPk coming on line we need to review our grounds and pitches, 11 turf pitches more than meet our needs, more add costs! Do we convert CC1, CC2 and maybe CC8 to synthetic fields down the track? We need light at least one other ground, maybe two, the HSPk and CC8 are possible candidates The continued recruitment and development of umpires People play cricket in our community basically for recreation, we are lucky enough to be able to provide a range of grades so as to more closely align their abilities – two of the biggest things which affect player enjoyment and in the end player retention is behaviour (sledging) and playing out of their grade – we have made some progress, but more is needed! All have a role to play in this. Managing the cost of playing the game Finally I would like to thank the Board for all their efforts as well as the support, ideas and interest in the sport by the various Club Presidents, Secretaries and Captains whose input is most valuable. If interested in playing a part in the administration of the game please don’t hesitate to contact me. We hope to see you all involved in cricket again next season – enjoying all that that game has to offer Angus Rathie President Toowoomba Cricket 2015-16 Toowoomba Cricket Board: Angus Rathie (President), Chris Howard (Secretary), Cherie Fenwick (Treasurer), John Littleproud, Dave Meiklejohn, David Lester & Doug Lush (Juniors Representatives), Kent Reimers & Bill Oaks 2015-16 Competition Sub Committee: Jason McWilliam (Chairman), Nick Abbate, Matt Jurgs, Dave Meiklejohn, Rick Wood, 2015-16 Junior Sub Committee: Dean Spanner, Valma Cahill, Doug Lush, Dave Lester and the various Club Delegates 2015 – 2016 Season Grade Awards A – Grade MOST RUNS in A-GRADE: 2006 – 2007 David Orange (567 runs) University 2007 – 2008 David Orange (561 runs) University 2008 – 2009 Nathan Stains (405 runs) Railways Bulldogs 2009 – 2010 John Littleproud (472 runs) University 2010 – 2011 David Else (385 runs) University 2011 – 2012 Blake Anderson (394 runs) Northern Brothers Diggers 2012 – 2013 Chris Hall (498 runs) Northern Brothers Diggers 2013 – 2014 Brian May (843 runs) Western Districts 2014 – 2015 Brian May (986 runs) Western Districts 2015 - 2016 BRIAN MAY (736 runs) WESTERN DISTRICTS Runners Up: Troy Gurski (564 runs) Met-Easts Matthew Dennis (517 runs) Met-Easts MOST WICKETS in A-GRADE: 2006 – 2007 Chris Webster (29 wickets) University 2007 – 2008 Chris Webster (38 wickets) University 2008 – 2009 Chris Webster (35 wickets) University 2009 – 2010 Chris Webster (40 wickets) University 2010 – 2011 Aaron Watson (32 wickets) Northern Brothers Diggers Adam Marjoribanks (32 wickets) Metropolitan-Easts 2011 – 2012 Chris Webster (50 wickets) University 2012 – 2013 Michael Miller (36 wickets) Northern Brothers Diggers Chris Webster (36 wickets) University 2013 – 2014 Michael Miller (45 wickets) Northern Brothers Diggers 2014 – 2015 Kris Glass (35 wickets) Northern Brothers Diggers 2015 – 2016 ROBBIE JOSEPH (42 wickets) UNIVERSITY Runners Up: Brodie Clews (35) NBDiggers Shaun McCarthy (34 wkts) Western Districts MOST DISMISSALS in A-GRADE: 2006 – 2007 Jason Carter (15) 2007 – 2008 Reece Neumann (25) University 2008 – 2009 Geoff Thompson (17) Railways Bulldogs 2009 – 2010 Geoff Thompson (23) Railways Bulldogs 2010 – 2011 Lyle Teske (29) Metropolitan-Easts 2011 – 2012 Chris Hall (24) Northern Brothers Diggers 2012 – 2013 Brodie Clews (21) Northern Brothers Diggers 2013 – 2014 Dean Sullivan (32) University 2014 – 2015 Dane Budden (27) Metropolitan-Easts 2015 – 2016 CHRIS GILLAM (39 – 36c 3st) WESTERN DISTRICTS Runners Up: Dean Sullivan (25) University Chris Hall (22) NBDiggers 2015 – 2016 Season Grade Awards cont.
