Sathiya Jothi, AP / Eng., PREAMBLE A Three-days Online Faculty Development Programme on “Innovation Strategies in English Language Teaching ” (through GoTo Meeting), was conducted h th during 10 – 12 June 2020, scheduled from 11.00 pm – 12 .30 pm. It was organized by the Department of English. Prof. Dr. V. RAJASEKARAN, Sr. Asst. Prof of English and Soft skill Trainer from VIT University, Chennai., handled the Day 1 Session on ‘How to become an ideal teacher? Mr. Stephen Chinnasamy, CEO Strides Consulting Inc., handled the Day 2 Session on ‘Challenges in Teaching LSRW Skills. Dr. Praveen Sam, Asst. Prof. of English and ELT specialist from SSN College of Engineering, Chennai, handled the Day 3 Session on “Teaching Vocabulary with Special Reference to Collocation and Fixed Expression”. The report discusses about the following aspects of the programme: 1. Course Content and Online Delivery Mode of the FDP on Innovation Strategies in English Language Teaching 2. Online Participants Registration Process for the FDP on Innovation Strategies in English Language Teaching 3. Course Assessment Process and Certification for the FDP on Innovation Strategies in English Language Teaching 4. Analysis of Feedback from participants for the FDP on Innovation Strategies in English Language Teaching 5. Course Content and Online Delivery Mode of the FDP on Innovation Strategies in English Language Teaching. Day 1: On the First day, 10/06/2020, the Resource Person Prof. Dr. V. RAJASEKARAN, Sr. Asst. Prof of English and Soft Skill Trainer from VIT University, Chennai. He started his discussion by stating “Constantly reinventing a teacher to evolve as a Guru is the need of the hour.” which was very relevant to our title “HOW TO BE AN IDEAL TEACHER?” The speaker provided many implementation tips towards the notion of an Ideal Teacher. It received appreciative response from the participants The course content delivered during the morning session is as follows: 1. A good teacher is an assertive teacher. 2. Be their friend, but don’t go too far 3. Make your lesson relevant to their lives 4. Teach in variety of ways and more explanations 5. A good teacher always has objectives. 6. Be a good example for your students. 7. Developing a Good Classroom Environment. 8. Push your students to succeed and keep student on task Day 2: On the second day, 11/06/2020, Mr. Stephen Chinnasamy, CEO Strides Consulting Inc., furnished valuable insights regarding CHALLENGES IN TEACHING LSRW SKILLS. He also used Technical tools to interact with participant, made the session very informative, and was exemplary. In this session, Participants acquainted with the knowledge of various online techniques which aid in teaching LSRW skills. The course content delivered during the day 2 sessions is as follows: 1. LSRW is the four skill of language learning. 2. A set of four capabilities that allow an individual to comprehend and produce spoken language for proper and effective interpersonal communication. 3. The Challenges of Teaching English as a Second Language. 4. Overcome the problems in speaking English daily language program . 5. English language lab software helps students to learn LSRW skills. 6. The ability to communicate effectively is an essential skill in today's world. 7. How can oral communication be improved? 8. What are the challenges teachers face in allowing creativity in the classroom? Day 3: On the third day, 12/06/2020, Dr. Praveen Sam, Asst. Prof. of English and ELT specialist from SSN College of Engineering, Chennai, delivered his lecture on the title “TEACHING VOCABULARY WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO COLLOCATION AND FIXED EXPRESSION”. In this session participants understood the importance of teaching Vocabulary usage and also to effortlessly trace the difference between Collocation and Fixed Expression. The participants enjoyed the session by involving themselves in language activities, which can be used in language classrooms. The course content delivered during the day 3 sessions is as follows: 1. Definition of Collocation and given more examples. 2. Importance to study English collocations because it will help you understand how to use vocabulary words in a sentence correctly IOT applications to medical field. 3. A collocation is made up of two or more words that are commonly used together in English. 4. Explained common collocations in English. 5. Common collocation like have fun, make sense, have a good time etc., 6. Doubt session 7. Posted questions to the participants and interaction were made. 8. Different types of collocation and vocabulary usage. The participants were provided with the necessary information regarding the various challenges they meet to become an ideal teacher. They were also briefed how to use LSRW skills and also a note on collocation with fixed expressions were discussed. The program was conducted through Go to Meeting and the link was shared to all the participants in the respective mail IDs. 2. Online Participants Registration Process on Innovative Strategies in English Language Teaching. The Brochure highlighting the necessary information about the FDP on Innovative Strategies in English Language Teaching was designed and circulated. The Brochure is displayed below: There was no Registration Fee for the participants attending this Online FDP on Innovative Strategies in English Language Teaching. Interested participants were requested to register their details in a google form which was shared through the link https://forms.gle/f6maSDyyYRtRnoRNA A total of 292 faculty members registered as participants.
