A note from Fr. Doug...

Dear Parishioners,

As we move past the longest day of sunlight for the year, I hope that we take some time to enjoy the blessings of the summer weather. I hope that you have plans to gather with family and friends. We have come a long way from last summer's outdoor distanced gatherings. Let us count our blessings.

As Manitowoc County numbers of COVID cases continue to decline, we continue to ease our COVID restrictions. We will stay with masks optional. Beginning in July, we will end the social distancing area in church, put the song books back in the pews, and start coming up the center aisle again for Communion. (For the Waldo site, we will have everyone come to the front of church, i.e. not using the Communion stations at the pew break).

The Bishop’s Dispensation from Mass continues, but SFA Parish Picnic please don’t let that be an excuse for not to coming to 5 vs 5 Soccer Tournament Mass. If you truly are at high risk and going no where Saturday, August 14th else then do use the dispensation, but we would then encourage you to watch our live feed, or the Mass $80 Per Team ~ Register by August 9th with the Bishop on Sunday morning on channel 5 at 10:30, or listen to our live broadcast on WOMT Radio at 9:30. Visit the parish website for more details: www.sfamanitowoc.org/parish-picnic The choirs will be starting back with rehearsals, including the funeral choir. We will be putting our Gather song books back in the pews. Know that it is always optional to use the song books, if you are concerned about how many people have touched the books.

For now, we will continue with the collection baskets at the door. This is also a great time to continue with, or begin using electronic giving.

Thank you for being patient and respectful during these changing times. Take time to enjoy these beautiful summer days.

Fr. Doug LeCaptain

Share Your Legacy!

A note from Fr. Ben... Have you made a will? Have you included your parish family? Support the work of faith within the St. Francis of Assisi community! Estate contributions can assist our annual income or help the growth of our endowment. Leave a legacy to the Hello everyone! This week’s lesson from seminary is Parish that reflects your connection to your parish. perhaps more of a “fun fact,” but it’s one I enjoyed finally learning after years of not understanding it. This is Stuff I Learned in Seminary Part 17: Holy, Holy… Holy?

At every Mass, after the priest prays the Preface and before the Eucharistic Prayer, we recite (or sing) “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Hosts…” Growing up, I thought this was an arbitrary, stylistic preference, and I didn’t understand why we wouldn’t just say “Holy Lord, God of Hosts.” It wasn’t until seminary that I learned this is a carry-over from the traditional Latin Mass, which has been prayed for centuries. And in Latin, when an adjective is repeated three times, it means it is expressed to the highest degree. In English, we change the term itself, but in Latin, the term is just repeated. For example, let’s use the word “tall.” In English, we have “tall,” “taller,” and “tallest.” So if I wanted to say—in Latin—that “Fr. Mike Warden is the tallest priest in the diocese,” I would have to say that he is “tall, tall, tall.” And so, when we address the Lord at that part of the Mass, we address Him as supremely Holy.

Speaking of the Latin Mass, our Young Adult Ministry team will be hosting one such Mass on Friday July 2nd, at 5pm at the Marshall site, with an informational/ preparatory session at 4pm, also in the church. If you are curious to learn about this Mass and see one for yourself, no matter what age you are, we invite you to consider attending!

God bless,

Rev. Ben Johnson

The Adoration Chapel will be closed Monday, July 5th.

The Chapel will re-open on Tuesday, July 6th at 5:00 a.m.

15 REASONS TO CONSIDER BECOMING A CATHOLIC

 Do you think you have no faith, yet desire something richer?  Are you yearning for the kind of faith you see in others?  Have you wanted to find out how things fit together to form the truth?  Do you long for the deepest sense of happiness?  Do you want a relationship with the God who created you?  Is there a gray area in the reality of your mind and heart?  In spite of trying to control your own life, have you realized that ultimately God is in control?  Do you long for a sense of belonging to a community of believers?  Would you like to awaken your senses; from sight, to smell, to sound, to touch, because the senses are widows to the inner world of spirit and the outer world of community?  Is something tugging at your heart, inspiring you to respond to the needs of people?  Do you seek to understand and live by God’s word?  Did you know that being part of a worshipping community strengthens your connection to God?  Do you hunger to be spiritually fed?  Do you feel something missing in your life?  Do you want to know and love God?

If you can answer “yes” to any of these questions; it may be God calling to you to convert your heart.
