Meeting date: 11th June 2018 – Growth Track 360 Briefing (Location: Ty, Hywel, Cardiff) Attendees: Llyr Gruffydd AM (In the Chair), Mark Isherwood AM, Ken Skates AM, Hannah Blythyn AM Tim Peppin and Stephen Jones (WLGA) North Wales and Mersey Dee Rail Task Force (GT360): Cllr. Samantha Dixon (Chair, GT360), Cllr. Liam Robinson (Chair, Merseytravel and GT360) Cllr. Patrick Heesom (Flintshire) attended as a guest of Mark Isherwood. Annual Report Cross Party Group for North Wales 15th February 2019 2 Summary of issues discussed: Ken Skates gave a presentation on the rail priorities of the Welsh Government with regard to North Wales including the improvements to be sought from the new Wales and Borderlands Rail Franchise. Growth Track 360 presented on their campaigns to improve rail connectivity for North Wales and the Mersey Dee geography including a Crewe Hub for HS2 and work with Transport for the North (TfN) on defining improvements for a Wales and West Corridor within TfN’s strategic plans. Meeting 2: Meeting date: 22nd June 2018 – Public Launch of the Cross-Party Group in North Wales (Location: Optic – Glyndwr, St. Asaph) Attendees: Assembly Members Llyr Gruffydd AM (in the Chair), Mark Isherwood AM, Ann Jones AM, Steve Ellison (Ann Jones Office), Ken Skates AM, Sian Gwenllian AM, Dr. Clare Eno (for Mandy Jones) David Humphreys (for Hannah Blythyn AM) and Stephen Jones (WLGA) Partners (Westminster APPG, Councils and Business Leaders) Ian Lucas MP and David Rix (Office of Ian Lucas), Chris Ruane MP and Liz Savile Roberts MP (Mersey Dee and North Wales All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) ) Councillor Dyfrig Siencyn (Gwynedd), Councillor Mark Pritchard (Wrexham), Councillor Llinos Medi Huws, Councillor Julian Thompson Hill and Iwan Trefor Jones (NWEAB) Ashley Rogers (North Wales Mersey Dee Business Council), David Jones (CBI/Deeside Enterprise Zone) Summary of issues discussed The meeting discussed the purpose of the Group and joint working with partners (Councils and APPG) to progress the economic and transport priorities of the Group. There were updates on the North Wales Growth Bid and the opportunities to develop the North Wales economy from the Chair of the APPG, the Welsh Government Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Transport and Business Leaders. Meeting 3. Meeting date: 13th July 2018 –Briefing from the North Wales Enterprise Zones (EZs) and the North Wales Mersey Dee Business Council (Location of the meeting in the Optic Glyndwr, St. Asaph) Attendees: Assembly Members: Llyr Gruffydd AM (in the Chair), Mark Isherwood AM, representatives of Llyr Gruffydd AM and Ann Jones AM (Jason McLellan) and Stephen Jones (WLGA) Councillor Leaders: Mark Pritchard (Wrexham), Gareth Jones (Conwy) and Julian Thompson Hill (Denbighshire) Speakers: Ashley Rogers (North Wales Mersey Dee Business Council), David Jones OBE (CBI/DEZ), Professor Sian Hope (Snowdonia and Anglesey EZs Summary of issues discussed: The meeting discussed the opportunities for growth of the private sector in North Wales and policy interventions to support that goal. The meeting included briefings on the work of the Deeside, Anglesey and Snowdonia Enterprise Zones. Meeting 4. Meeting date: 17th October 2018 –Improving Transport in North Wales (Location of the meeting: Ruthin, North Wales) Attendees: Llyr Gruffydd AM (In the Chair), Mark Isherwood AM, Sian Gwenllian AM, Darren Millar AM (Part), Eluned Morgan AM (part), Brett John (Office of Llyr Gruffydd AM), Tim Peppin and Stephen Jones (WLGA) Speakers: Dewi Rowlands, Welsh Government, Simon Lander, Transport for Wales and Iwan Prys Jones, North Wales Economic Ambition Board. Annual Report Cross Party Group for North Wales 15th February 2019 4 Summary of issues discussed: The meeting discussed the national policy context for improving transport in North Wales through a briefing from the Welsh Government along with updates from delivery bodies like Transport for Wales and the Local Authorities represented by the North Wales Economic Ambition Board. The topics covered included policy, investment and delivery issues related to buses, rail and roads. Meeting 5. Meeting date: 30th November 2018, Cross Border Economic Opportunities Attendees: Llyr Gruffydd AM (in the Chair), Mark Isherwood AM, representative of Michelle Brown AM (Chrissie Gee) and Stephen Jones (WLGA), Councillor Marc Jones (Wrexham) and Mabon ap Gwynfor, Office of Llyr Gruffydd AM Speakers: Iwan Trefor Jones (North Wales Economic Ambition Board), Charlie Seward (Mersey Dee Alliance), Emma Wynne (Mersey Dee Alliance) Summary of issues discussed: The meeting heard from the North Wales Economic Ambition Board and the Mersey Dee Alliance on cross-border opportunities for economic growth for North Wales from developing closer economic links with North West England, Ireland and Mid-Wales Meeting 6 AGM, 15th February 2019 (Location, Optic Glyndwr, St. Asaph) Attendees Llyr Gruffydd AM, Daren Millar AM, Ann Jones AM, Jason McLellan (Office of Ann Jones AM), Representative of the Office of Rhun ap Iorwerth AM and Stephen Jones (Secretary) Speakers: Councillor Aaron Shotton (Chair of the North Wales Economic Ambition Board (NWEAB) ) and Iwan Trefor Jones, (Lead Director NWEAB) Summary of issues discussed The meeting re-elected the officers of the Group (who served in 2018/19) and received an update on the North Wales Growth Bid from Cllr.
