KIHIKIHI Speedway turned on a spec- tacular Community Fireworks display last- ing nine minutes on Saturday night. Dr Martin Van Tiel of Van Tiel Pyrotechnics Ltd said weather conditions were ideal for the fireworks and everything had gone to plan. One of the biggest ever crowds to attend a speedway meeting at Kihikihi were treated to 200 shots of non-stop pyrotechnics action from 75mm to 125mm mortars that exploded spectacularly 100 to 150 metres high and 125 metres in diameter — all fired by a computer. Courier sports editor Colin Thorsen captured Cathie Hall, her son Kenny, Hannah Austin and grandchildren Nicole (7) and Sienna Jones (5) watching the fireworks. Also pictured are the winners of the Halloween best dressed competition. From left, Hannah Hastwell (10), Jade Sherborne (12) and Riley Martinovich (11). Speedway photographer Graham Hughes caught Craig Robinson’s 34K saloon being sent into a wild barrel roll after 91A Cody Singer half spun and shot down across the track collecting Robinson in the right rear.
