Hemel Hempstead Town’s great win against Chelmsford City on Tuesday night saw them go third in the National League South Table. Hemel are at home again tomorrow Saturday 27 January and this time Poole Town are the visitors We have an excellent chance of going second, and an outside chance of going top this weekend. Get down to Vauxhall Road tomorrow to cheer the Tudors on! Two new signings for Tudors The Tudors have today signed a new midfielder, 23 year old Michael Cain from division rivals Whitehawk. Michael is a local lad from Luton and includes Leicester City as one of his former clubs, previously whilst at Leicester Michael played 40 games whilst on loan for EFL clubs Blackpool, Walsall and Mansfield Town. The second player to join today on a one month loan from League Two side Colchester United is goalkeeper Dillon Barnes. Dillon is an imposing 6'4" 21 year old Goalkeeper who earlier in the season played 14 times for Welling United giving him good experience at this level. Reserve keeper Danny Boness is returning on a one month loan to former club Hayes & Yeading United in order to get some much needed game time. We welcome the two new players to the club and wish all three players the very best of luck. Bath City 26 10 8 8 34 31 3 38 Match report by Allan Mitchell Much closer than the score line suggests but it’s another three excellent points against promotion rivals for Dean Brennans “patched up” side on Tuesday evening in front of over 500 spectators at Vauxhall Road. It was a contentious penalty award that set the Tudors on their way in the 25th minute when City’s Mark Haines appeared to have won the race for the ball with Will Hoskins, just poking it back to his keeper before the Hemel striker could get to it. As both players collided Hoskins fell and much to the delight of the Hemel fans, the referee decided he’d been fouled and awarded spot kick. It looked very harsh and Chelmsford’s players and coaching staff all vented their anger and frustration at the decision, with City manager Rod Stringer eventually being sent to the stand after he had words with the linesman, who he felt was in a good position to see the challenge. Stringer said afterwards that it was a game changing decision and the worst he had seen in all the years he had been in football. None of this worried Hemel skipper Jordan Parkes and he stepped up after the long delay and tucked the ball away to give the home side the lead. City were working hard closing down and relying on the counter attack but their front two, especially Chris Dickson kept getting caught offside, which was credit to a well marshalled defence. Hemel kept their patience and almost went two up after 35 minutes when James Kaloczi met Kyle Connolly’s looping cross with his head, the ball spun high into the air and was pushed over the bar by Gartside for a corner. The Tudors went two up from the resulting corner with Parkes netting his second of the game. Jordan has developed a way of curling the ball right under the post recently and he did just that for the second time in two home games. The ball squeezing in before Gartside could reach it at the near post. The City keeper complained that he had been blocked but the goal stood. Parkes then saw a free kick punched away by the now rattled Gartside and from this corner he curled another difficult ball in that was headed away from under the bar by Spillane. Spillane had City’s best chance just before the break when he got on the end of a well worked free kick but he put his shot narrowly wide of Walkers post. Lloyd Doyley had to be replaced at the break as Hemel’s injuries continued to mount up but it did not deter them and they should have gone three up early in the second period when great work by Kaloczi set up Spencer McCall, who was on his weaker foot but he still managed to bring out a full length save from Gartside. Laurie Walker made a decent stop when Michael West broke clear down the right but City were creating little and Hemel looked comfortable despite losing Hoskins with a shoulder injury and the returning Matt Saunders with a muscle strain. The visitors had a couple of chances from corners but Haines and Church both headed high and wide when well placed. The goal that sealed the win came in the 84th minute when the excellent Kaloczi twisted and turned his way into the box before cutting the ball back to McCall who looked up and bent the ball past Gartside into the roof of the net. There was still time for some late drama as Thomas Hitchcock was sent off for City for what appeared to be an elbow on Yakubu and to add to Hemel’s injury woes, keeper Laurie Walker had to be led off after he received a nasty cut on his arm when saving at the feet of Giles. Kyle Connolly had to go in goal as the Tudors had used all their subs and he was powerless to stop a pile driver of a shot from Scott Davies in the 94th minute which gave City a consolation goal. In the end an excellent result for Dean Brennan’s men who continue to defy the odds with the Hemel manager having only 12 fully fit players to choose from before this match. It’ll be a case of who is available for the next game at Vauxhall Road against Poole Town but Hemel fans will be sure that whoever plays they will still be in there fighting for the points on Saturday.     1 WALES RUGBY LEAGUE 2013 ANNUAL REPORT Period April 2013-March 2014 WELCOME FROM WRL CHAIRMAN Brian Juliff Hello and welcome to our 2013 Annual Review. The cover picture is from the Rugby League World Cup at the Millennium Stadium and highlights the exhilaration and pride of representing your country at the highest level of International Rugby League by a player born, bred and developed through the ‘Wales Rugby League Pathway’. In terms of performance, the North Wales Crusaders led the way with promotion to Championship 1 which was a huge success for Rugby League in Wales and led to some ground breaking community work being done in the region, which in turn will strengthen the foundations for the game to flourish. It was a pleasure to witness the passion of the Crusaders travelling band of supporters when they defeated London Skolars at New River Stadium, White Hart Lane, to secure their right to promotion. The board of directors at the Crusaders enter the new season under no illusions as to the enormity of the task of surviving in Championship 1. Clearly investment in the squad will be necessary to push on and the club will be keen to attract new partners/sponsors to enhance their wonderfully vociferous and very popular group of fans. North Wales Crusaders have also set up a Charitable Foundation in the region which supports the growth of disabled sport in the area and have expanded their community portfolio by launching a new wheelchair rugby league club team. South Wales Scorpions are on a slightly different trajectory, of course, with the focus on the pathway from our South Wales Academy to Senior Rugby League for our emerging Welsh talent and this team will grow steadily stronger over the next few years.

  • Hemel Stags ARLFC Under 18S History (Feb 2010)
    Hemel Stags ARLFC The Under 18 team at Hemel Stags was originally formed as a joint venture between Hemel and London Skolars to provide a link between their teams competing at junior level and their senior sides competing in national divisions. Prior to this there were not enough players at each club individually to form a side, so many of those playing London Junior League rugby that were unable to make their mark instantly at senior level often ended up drifting back to playing rugby union. Joining the National Youth League last season, they were (and still are) proud to be the first side from the south of England to take part in the competition. They split their home games between games at Hemel and Skolars grounds, far surpassing their aims to get through the season and build for the next by winning four matches. Unfortunately, this season Skolars were unable to continue their commitment to the joint venture and Hemel Stags have struggled to find enough players willing to travel long distances every other weekend and put their bodies on the line. This has led to an understandable downturn in results, but a huge positive is that all bar three of the squad are still eligible to play in next season¶s competition. Harlequins RL have also begun to provide support through the loaning of some of their youth players, helping to fill in some of the gaps in the thin Stags squad and providing some extra game time at a high standard to compliment their brief Super League academy season.
