he sun is essential to good health and contributes to a sense of well-being. However, unprotected exposure to the sun’s ultravioletT rays can cause premature skin aging and skin cancer. People of all skin colors get skin cancer. In fact, more than 3.5 million people are diagnosed each year in the United States alone. There are more cases of skin cancer than the combined incidence of cancers of the breast, prostate, lung, and colorectal. UVA rays age skin cells and can damage their DNA. These rays are linked to long-term skin damage such as wrinkles, but they also are thought to play a role in some skin cancers. It is always important to use a broad spectrum sunscreen. It decreases the risk of skin cancer and early skin aging caused by the sun when used with other sun protection measures. Elta MD broad spectrum sunscreens contain zinc oxide, a mineral compound, to protect skin against UVA and UVB rays. Zinc blocks the widest spectrum of UVA and UVB rays, protecting the skin from premature aging and sunburn. In addition to a good quality and effective sunscreen worn daily, the following recommendations are also important. • Seek the shade especially between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. • Avoid tanning and UV tanning beds. • Cover up with clothing, including a broad-brimmed hat and UV-blocking sunglasses. • Use a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen. • Keep newborns out of the sun. • Examine your skin head-to-toe every month. • See your physician every year for a professional skin exam. We at Muenster Family Medical are passionate about prevention of all disease including skin cancers. Our Nurse Practitioners Amy and Jamai are trained on proper skin examinations. We proudly carry EltaMD products which we feel are superior skin care products in assisting in the prevention of skin cancer.

Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a F amily

and a Culture in Crisis by J. D. Vance his is the story of what the author refers to as the “culture of the hillbilly,” the working poor and the white working class. While toldT with real-life drama and even humor, ultimately “Hillbilly El- egy” is about the unattainable nature of economic progress or even economic stability. It's about the loss of the American Dream. Traditionally, the American Dream is to pull yourself up by your own bootstraps. Some, though, don't have bootstraps or even . Such was J.D. Vance's family who left the hills and mountains of Kentucky after World War II to work in the automotive factories of Ohio. The Rust Belt was a long way off in the prosperous Fifties, but one message was sent to young J.D.: You're going to college. College is only the start of upward mobility. Working late every night, being up and ready for early classes is one thing, but break- ing into white collar America is like moving to a foreign country. If you walk and talk and look different, you won't fit in. So you buy new clothes to change the way you look and copy the speech and manners of those around you. As your mamaw always wanted, you become well-groomed and well-mannered. No more crumbling corn bread into your milk at the table. No longer are you seen drinking Mountain Dew, and no more killing chickens in the backyard either. To attain these dizzying heights, and even a Yale Law School degree, means you have oh-so-far to fall. Hard as it is to leave your hometown for a city or college, hard- er yet is it to avoid being pulled back home, drawn by your family's poverty and need. The word “elegy” means mournful poem. How can something so sad be both funny and entertaining? Interesting characters are one way, and this book abounds with them. For example, his maternal mamaw and papaw were both grandparents and parents to J.D., as his mom struggled with drugs and alcohol. acters are authentic and colorful; How could they be otherwise? J.D. read with Mamaw and did math problems with Papaw, but It's all real in “Hillbilly Elegy.” it was Mamaw who taught him how to fight, when to fight and when to stop before you killed somebody. Mamaw herself was the stuff of legends including one involving a stolen cow, a pickup truck and a shotgun. Anglers will never grow tired of fishing Lake Texoma, with an incredible amount of species available, including blue and channel catfish, white and striped bass, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, black and white crappie and bluegill, but the predominant fish is the striped bass. Lake Texoma is one of the few fresh water lakes with self-sus- taining, landlocked lakes of striped bass, according to the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife. Unlike other Texas lakes with a striped bass population, routine isn’t required. The striped bass is the largest member of the sea bass family, often called true bass to differentiate it from other bass species in the sunfish family Centrarchidae. Striped bass are silvery, with seven or eight horizontal stripes on each side of the body. It’s back can become an olive-green, while it’s belly can be white. Younger fish appear to be white bass, but two distinct tooth patches on the back of the tongue can help properly identify the fish as a “striper.” The fish was originally introduced in Texoma by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation in 1965, and has since been home to many records. The current record is maintained by Bruce Maybrier, who caught a hybrid striped bass weighing 14.88 pounds and 31 inches in length on March 22, 1992 (rod and reel, all ages). Other records include: Fly fishing, Dewayne White, 11.38 pounds, 30 inches, Jan. 20, 2014, clouser and Junior angler, Tyler Steele, hybrid striped bass, rod and reel, striped bass, 3.38 pounds, 22 inches, July 22, 2009, pop-r. The stripers tend to migrate from one end of the lake to the other. In February, they migrate up the major river arms and can be found in or near the river channel in the vicinity of the Willis or Roosevelt Bridges. Anglers will have the best luck with heavy jigs, slabs, plastic shad and live gizzard shad. During the summer months, striped bass can be caught with shad over flats near the river channel in the main part of the lake. The fish surfaces often during the summer, fall and winter and can attract sea gulls, who like to feed on threadfin shad. To do this lay the bottom piece flat on your workbench and align front and back pieces on top of the 1x6 bottom board. Glue together and nail from the bottom. Do the same for the sides. If desired use a stencil to decorate the front with chalk paint and let dry. To finish the box apply polycrylic on all sides to seal the wood and chalk paint. Supply List: Next paint the mason jars with two to three layers of white chalk paint until desired coverage. After each layer is dry be sure to lightly sand with 220 grit sandpaper for a smoother finish. 1x4 pine board When the coverage is to your liking use the sandpaper again to distress around the 1x6 pine board top, sides, bottom, and any wording on mason jar. This gives a perfect farmhouse antique Wood glue look. Nail gun or hammer After the chalk paint is completely dry spray with a sealer to prevent any chipping 1 ½ inch brad nails or finish nails and scratching of jars. ith the different seasons, I always do a dining room table refresh. I love to have a beautiful vignette. Not just for guests,W even though that’s fun, but for myself as well. A beautiful Peach Crisp space just makes me happy. There are a few elements that to me make a table lovely. 1. Color Decide what colors you will be using and collect your items. Mix colors that will coordinate with the room. Don’t be afraid to mix metals as well. The days of having only one type of metal in a space has passed!

2. Layers One of the best tips for decorating ANY space is to do so in layers. Layers create interest and keep a space from feeling “flat.” I used several different layers on this table, including stacked plates with napkins and Eucalyptus, stacked birch wood slices and table runners (think outside the box—the burlap and even the Euca- lyptus create a runner effect).

3. Textures Using different textures provides warmth and impact in a space. It can be a “wow factor” or something subtle. Here, I’ve mixed different types of succulents, glass, pottery, wood, and fabrics.

4. Patterns Shopping Sources: I love to mix and match patterns, but keep it to a minimum. Patterned Plates – Anthropologie For this vignette, I mixed different-patterned plates, but they all Small Clay Pots, Faux Succulents, Eucalyptus – Hobby Lobby coordinate with my color palette.
