FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: OCTOBER 2, 2018 COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS SET SEASON-OPENING ROSTER Club makes two moves prior to NHL deadline to submit season opening roster COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets made two moves today prior to the National Hockey League’s 5 p.m. ET deadline to submit its 23-man roster, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced. Forward Alex Broadhurst and goaltender Matiss Kivlenieks were assigned to the Cleveland Monsters, the team’s American Hockey League affiliate. The Blue Jackets’ roster includes: Forwards (14) – 9 Artemi Panarin, 10 Alexander Wennberg, 13 Cam Atkinson, 17 Brandon Dubinsky, 18 Pierre-Luc Dubois, 20 Riley Nash, 22 Sonny Milano, 28 Oliver Bjorkstrand, 37 Markus Hannikainen, 38 Boone Jenner, 45 Lukas Sedlak, 71 Nick Foligno, 77 Josh Anderson and 91 Anthony Duclair; Defense (7) – 4 Scott Harrington, 6 Adam Clendening, 8 Zach Werenski, 14 Dean Kukan, 53 Gabriel Carlsson, 58 David Savard and 65 Markus Nutivaara; and Goaltenders (2) – 70 Joonas Korpisalo and 72 Sergei Bobrovsky. In addition, the following players are on Injured Reserve: 3 Seth Jones and 27 Ryan Murray. The Blue Jackets open their 18th NHL regular season on the road at Little Caesars Arena against the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday, October 4. The following night, Columbus plays its home-opener against the Carolina Hurricanes. Game time from Nationwide Arena is 7 p.m. ET. Single game tickets for all home games played at Nationwide Arena during the 2018-19 regular season, including the Friday, October 5 home opener against Carolina are on sale now. Columbus Blue Jackets Announce Roster Moves
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: JANUARY 16, 2020 COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS ANNOUNCE ROSTER MOVES COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled defenseman Adam Clendening and goaltender Matiss Kivlenieks from the Cleveland Monsters, Columbus’ American Hockey League affiliate, Blue Jackets General Manager and Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. The team also has assigned goaltender Veini Vehvilainen to the Monsters. Clendening, 27, has notched four goals and 20 assists for 24 points with 49 penalty minutes and a cumulative +11 plus/minus rating in 90 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets, Arizona Coyotes, New York Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Vancouver Canucks and Chicago Blackhawks. He was +1 in four games with Columbus during the 2018-19 season and added 0-1-1, two penalty minutes and was +1 in seven games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Niagara Falls, New York native was selected by Chicago in the second round, 36th overall, in the 2011 NHL Draft. He currently ranks third among AHL defensemen in assists (tied) and points with 6-23-29, has 38 penalty minutes and is +6 in 35 games. The two-time AHL All-Star has posted 38-189-227 and 403 penalty minutes in 341 career AHL games. Kivlenieks, 23, is 7-7-2 with a 3.04 goals-against average, .896 save percentage and one shutout in 16 games with the Monsters in 2019-20. A native of Riga, Latvia, he has posted a 25-32-7 record, 3.26 GAA, .889 SV% and three shutouts in 73 career AHL outings with Cleveland since making his professional debut in 2017-18.

Gates, 23, joins the Amerks after splitting the 2020-21 season with the Indy Fuel and Tulsa Oilers (ECHL), recording 21 points on eight goals and 13 assists in 35 games. The 6-foot-2, 196-pound forward has also notched an assist in two games with the San Diego Gulls (AHL) this season. During the 2019-20 campaign between the Gulls and Oilers, Gates combined for 14 goals and 11 assists for 25 points in 45 contests. Gates ranked second among all Tulsa rookies in goals (10) while finishing second in both assists (10) and points (20) in 25 games before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The second-year pro has appeared in 28 career AHL games with the Gulls, totaling eight points (5+3) while also adding 41 points (18+23) over 60 contests with Tulsa. Prior to turning pro, the Grand Rapids, Mich., native completed a four-year collegiate career at the University of Minnesota (Big- 10), where he registered 85 points (42+43) in 148 games with the Gophers from 2015-2019. As team captain during his senior season, Gates finished third on the team with 18 assists and 31 points, both career-highs. Kivlenieks, 24, made his NHL debut with the Blue Jackets in 2019-20, posting a 1-1-2 record with a 2.95 goals-against average and .898 save percentage in six games, which included four starts. He turned aside 31 shots in a 2-1 victory at the New York Rangers on January 19 to become the second player in franchise history to win his NHL debut (Steve Mason). The netminder helped the club collect a point in each of his first three NHL starts from January 19-February 13 (1-0-2). A native of Riga, Latvia, Kivlenieks owns a 27-33-8 record with a 3.23 GAA, .892 SV% and three shutouts in 77 career AHL appearances with the Cleveland Monsters since making his professional debut in 2017-18. He went 9-8-3 with a 2.96 GAA, .904 SV% and one shutout in 20 outings with Cleveland in 2019-20. Hawkins, 26, joins the Amerks after registering 19 goals and 12 assists for 31 points in 28 games with the Fort Wayne Komets (ECHL) to begin the 2020-21 season. The 5-foot-10, 198-pound forward currently paces all Komets skaters in both goals and points in addition to leading the ECHL with 10 power-play tallies. As a rookie during the 2019-20 campaign, Hawkins totaled 34 points (16+18) over 53 combined games between the Wilkes- Barre/Scranton Penguins and Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Among all first-year skaters, Hawkins topped all Nailers in goals (16), assists (17) and points (33) in 47 contests. The third-year pro has appeared in 11 career AHL games with the Penguins, totaling three points (2+1) while also adding 64 points (35+29) in the ECHL between Wheeling and Fort Wayne. Prior to turning pro, the Macomb, Mich., native completed a four-year collegiate career between Bowling Green State University (WCHA) and Northeastern University (H-East), where he combined for 108 points (46+62) in 141 games from 2014-2019. During his first season with the Falcons in 2014, he ranked first on the team in both goals (16) and points (30) in 39 games while earning a spot on the NCAA (WHCA) All-Rookie Team.
