OREGON remains the lone undefeated team, recoding fve wins at the Bank of Hawai’i Invitational... ARIZONA’s Mo Mercado was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week after leading the Wildcats with an .846 batting average in 13 at-bats at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic including hitting Arizona’s frst grand slam of the year vs. Purdue. Fellow Wildcat Danielle O’Toole was named Pac- 12 Pitcher of the Week and Utah’s Alyssa Barrera was named Freshman of the Week...Tournament play continues with UCLA, ASU, WASHINGTON, and CALIFORNIA heading to the Judy Garmin Classic in Fullerton, Calif. STANFORD and OREGON head East to tournaments in Alabama and Missouri respectively. OREGON STATE is set to compete in the San Diego Classic and Arizona hosts a three game homestand against Texas... Seven Conference teams are ranked this week with California moving up to No. 23 and 18 in the USA Today/NFCA and the USA Softball/ESPN.com polls, respectively. Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW). After recording just 44 victories in their fi rst three years of existence, the Bruins went 31-3 in 1978, starting and fi n ishing the season strong with victories in 14 of their fi rst 15 and 17 of their last 18. During the regular season, UCLA posted a 22-2 record, outscoring its May 4 beat Sacramento State, 1-0 (12 inn.) opponents 101-17. May 5 beat Chico State, 1-0 In her last season in her #6 UCLA uniform, future Hall of Fame coach Sue Enquist led the Bruins in hitting with a .391 batting average. The All-American also May 6 lost to Cal Poly Pomona, 6-5 fi n ished fi rst on the squad with seven doubles and tied for the team lead with two home runs.
